HashiCorp Announces Third Quarter of Fiscal Year 2025 Financial Results(Bloomberg) -- President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday signed the Philippines’ 6.3 trillion peso ($109 billion) budget for 2025 after vetoing some public works and standby funding. Marcos said he used his veto powers on 194 billion pesos of allocations after a thorough review of the spending bill approved by Congress. A cash aid program that was questioned for supposedly being vulnerable to political influence will be implemented conditionally, according to the president. “We must exercise maximum prudence. Otherwise, we run the risk of increasing our deficit and derailing our development agenda,” Marcos said after signing the budget in front of lawmakers and Cabinet officials at the presidential palace. The budget — a key driver of Philippine growth — drew closer-than-normal scrutiny in the past few weeks, with midterm elections to be held next year. The signing ceremony was delayed for more than a week after Education Secretary Sonny Angara raised concerns over his department’s budget, which he said was lower than was proposed due to cuts in allocations for computers. The initial budget included significantly higher funding for public works and highways, which was subsequently trimmed back. Over the weekend, the Makati Business Club, which counts senior executives of the nation’s biggest companies as members, expressed alarm over provisions in the 2025 spending bill, in particular the higher funding for public works, and questioned the need for extra money going to Congress. Marcos was originally scheduled to sign the budget on Dec. 20, but the government announced a delay to “allow more time for a rigorous and exhaustive review” of the spending package. --With assistance from Ditas Lopez. A_1,525 (3,000).NEW YORK (AP) — Sean “Diddy” Combs ‘ lawyers tried for a third time Friday to persuade a judge to let the hip-hop mogul out of jail while he awaits his sex trafficking trial, but a decision won’t come until next week as prosecutors warned of his “concerted effort” from behind bars to disrupt the case. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian said he’ll rule promptly on Combs’ bail request after the defense and prosecution file letters by noon Monday fleshing out some of the arguments they made during a two-hour hearing in Manhattan federal court. Combs’ lawyers pitched having him await trial under around-the-clock surveillance either at his mansion on an island near Miami Beach or — after the judge scoffed at that location — at an apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Their $50 million bail proposal, secured by his Florida home, essentially amounts to keeping Combs on house arrest instead of in custody at the troubled Brooklyn federal jail where he’s been held for 67 days since his September arrest. Under their plan, Combs’ lawyers said he’ll be under near-total restrictions on his ability to see or contact anyone but them. But prosecutors argued that no bail conditions can mitigate Combs’ “risk of obstruction and dangerousness to others.” Combs has routinely flouted jail rules while locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, prosecutors said, accusing him of attempting to interfere with witnesses and taint the jury pool. “Really, this amounts to the defendant paying his way out of custody,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik told Subramanian. Defense lawyer Anthony Ricco countered that the prosecution’s portrayal of Combs as “a lawless person who doesn’t follow instructions” or “an out-of-control individual who has to be detained” is inaccurate. Another Combs lawyer, Teny Geragos, added that given the strict release conditions they’ve proposed, “it would be impossible for him not to follow rules.” Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he coerced and abused women for years with help from a network of associates and employees while silencing victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and physical beatings. His trial is slated to begin May 5. Two other judges previously concluded that the Bad Boy Records founder would be a danger to the community if he is freed, and an appeals court judge last month denied Combs’ immediate release while a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals weighs his bail request. Friday’s hearing was the second time Combs was in court this week. On Tuesday, a judge blocked prosecutors from using as evidence papers that were seized from his cell during a jail-wide sweep for contraband and weapons. As he entered through a side door, Combs waved to relatives including his mother and several of his children in the courtroom gallery, tapping his hand to his heart and blowing kisses at them. He then hugged his lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, before sitting at the defense table. Combs was not handcuffed or shackled and wore a beige jail uniform, occasionally pulling a pair of reading glasses from his pocket as he peered at papers in front of him. Prosecutors contend that while incarcerated the “I’ll Be Missing You” singer has orchestrated social media campaigns aimed at influencing potential jurors. They allege that he has also attempted to leak materials he believes would help his case and is contacting potential witnesses via third parties. “Simply put, the defendant cannot be trusted,” Slavik argued. In renewing their push for Combs’ release, his lawyers sought to undercut the strength of a potential key piece of evidence: a March 2016 video showing him hitting and kicking his then-girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie , in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. Prosecutors contend the assault happened during a “Freak Off,” an event in which they allege Combs used his “power and prestige” to induce female victims into drugged-up, elaborately produced sexual performances with male sex workers. Combs’ lawyers said in court papers that newly unearthed evidence refutes that, and that the video, which first aired on CNN in May, was “a minutes-long glimpse into a complex but decade-long consensual relationship” between Combs and Cassie. Slavik, responding to defense claims that the recording was manipulated or taken out of context, said prosecutors don’t have the full version because Combs paid hotel staff $100,000 “to make the original video go away.” “This is a case about violence,” Slavik told Subramanian in a final plea to keep Combs locked up. “The defendant has engaged in physical, sexual and emotional abuse of his romantic partners for years. ... He’s hit. He’s kicked. He’s dragged.”

He also said there’s no decision taken by the president that has ever failed, including this tax reform bill. Umahi who made the declaration while fielding questions from journalists after an interactive session with the Senate Committee on Works, described those criticising President Tinubu on the project as being jealous and envious of his performance. Tinubu had a dream 25 years ago as a governor on the project and divinely actualised for him when he became President by God. He said, “There is envy and jealousy. The people who envy him never believe that he can turn around the economy. President Joe Biden spoke Sunday on the collapse of the Syrian government under Bashar Assad, calling the moment a "fundamental act of justice" after more than two decades of oppression. "After 13 years of civil war in Syria and more than half a century of brutal authoritarian rule by Bashar Assad and his father before him, rebel forces have forced Assad to resign his office and flee the country," Biden said. "We're not sure where he is but there's word that he's in Moscow. At long last the Assad regime has fallen. This regime brutalized and tortured and killed literally hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians. The fall of the regime is a fundamental act of justice. It's a moment of historic opportunity for the long-suffering people of Syria." RELATED STORY | The fall of Bashar Assad after 13 years of war in Syria brings to an end a decades-long dynasty President Biden, speaking from the White House just hours after rebels overthrew the Syrian government and Assad fled the country, said while the news is positive for the Middle East, warned that it marks "a moment of risk and uncertainty." "As we all turn to the question of what comes next, the United States will work with our partners and the stakeholders in Syria to help them seize an opportunity to manage the risks," he said. "You know, for years, the main backers of Assad have been Iran, Hezbollah and Russia. But over the last week their support collapsed — all three of them. Because all three of them are far weaker today than they were when I took office." It’s a digital cash card that’s built into Apple devices and can be found in the default Wallet app. (Note: You must link an eligible debit card to use this service.) The main function of Apple Cash is to make it easier for Apple device users to send money to one another, including sending money through the iMessage app. But Apple Cash is more than just a peer-to-peer (P2P) payment service — it can be used to shop online, in stores or to make in-app purchases. Apple Cash is a convenient way to transfer money between friends and family. Once it’s set up, a user can simply open the iMessage app and send money to a contact through their chat. It’s also useful for those who use Apple Pay, a separate service that allows Apple device users to make contactless payments with any linked card, including an Apple Cash card. Here are some important things to know about setting up and using Apple Cash. Apple Cash is a digital cash card that’s stored in the Wallet app of Apple devices, and it can be used for making P2P payments, as well as purchases through Apple Pay. When you receive money from another Apple Cash user, that money appears in your Apple Cash balance. The balance can then be spent or transferred to a linked bank account or debit card. Sending money to peers with Apple Cash can be done either directly from the digital Apple Cash card (in the Wallet app) or through the iMessage app. You can send or receive anywhere between $1 and $10,000 per message. The money shows up on the recipient’s Apple Cash card instantly, but it may take from one to three days for the balance to be transferred to a bank account. Instant transfers to a bank account are possible, but it comes with a 1.5% fee. There’s also an option to set up Apple Cash Family for children who are under 18 years old. This option limits the amount a child can send to $2,000 per message. Those younger than 18 also cannot add money to their Apple Cash card from a bank account; rather, their balance only grows when they receive money from another Apple Cash user. Apple Cash is a digital card within your Wallet that allows you to spend your Apple Cash online, in stores and in apps as well send and receive money. Apple Pay, however, allows you to make purchases using any credit card or debit card you have stored in your Wallet — including Apple Cash. With Apple Pay, you add credit and debit cards to your Wallet and then have the ability to pay right with your phone (or other Apple product). To set up Apple Cash, you’ll need three things: —A compatible Apple device. —Two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID (this can be done in Settings). —An eligible debit card to load funds onto the Apple Cash card. In the Settings app, you can turn on Apple Cash in the Wallet and Apple Pay section. Tap on the Apple Cash card icon and follow the instructions on the screen. You’ll be asked to agree to the terms and conditions, after which your device will set up Apple Cash for you. The Apple Cash card, once set up, can be found in your device’s Wallet app. If you want to set up Apple Cash Family, you’ll first need to have Family Sharing turned on, which can be done in Settings. The family organizer can add children to Apple Cash in the Family Sharing section of Settings. You’ll need to have a debit card linked to your digital Wallet to add money to an Apple Cash card. You can add a debit card to Wallet in the same place where you set up Apple Cash — the Wallet and Apple Pay section of Settings. Once a debit card is linked to your Wallet, open Wallet and tap on the Apple Cash card. Then, tap the More button (an icon with three dots). This will open a page where you can see your Apple Cash balance, add money and transfer funds to a bank account. Tap Add Money and enter the amount you’d like to add (the minimum is $10). You’ll be asked to confirm which debit card you want to use to fund the Apple Cash balance, and then the money is added to the Apple Cash card. There are two ways to send a payment to someone using Apple Cash: directly from your Wallet or in the iMessage app. Both the sender and recipient need Apple Cash to send or receive money. To send money from Wallet, simply tap the Apple Cash card in Wallet and then tap Send. Type in the contact name or phone number of the recipient. Enter the amount you’d like to send (between $1 and $10,000), then review the payment and confirm it with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode. In iMessage, open the conversation with who you’d like to send money to, or start a new one. Tap on the app button, which appears next to the type bar, and then tap on the Apple Cash icon. You’ll be prompted to enter an amount (between $1 and $10,000). Once you’ve reviewed the amount, tap Send and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode. The first time money is sent to someone, the recipient will need to accept the payment within seven days for it to go through. After the first instance, payments are automatically accepted. If you’re using Apple Cash to make a purchase either online or in a store, you’ll need to pay using Apple Pay. To request money from your iPhone, open the conversation in the Messages app. Tap the plus icon, followed by Apple Cash. Then, tap Request. Tap the send button to send your payment request. Once the request is sent, the person you sent it to can confirm or change the amount they send to you. You can also request money from your Apple watch. Open your messages app, choose a conversation, tap the plus icon and then choose Apple Cash. Once you enter the amount you are requesting, swipe left on the Send button. Tap Request. As you start to accumulate money on the Apple Cash card, you may want to move it to a debit card or a bank account . This can be done by going to the same place where you added funds to the card, by clicking the icon with three dots next to your digital card. Enter an amount to be transferred, then tap Next. You’ll be asked whether you want to do an instant transfer (for a 1.5% fee) or a transfer in one to three business days for free. After making a selection, the screen will instruct you to set up a bank account if you don’t already have one set up. You’ll confirm the payment, and the transfer is initiated. Instant transfers can only be made to an eligible debit card, not a bank account. Money is sent within 30 minutes when you select instant transfer. —Zelle: If your bank is offers Zelle, it might be a good idea to take advantage of the P2P payment service. Zelle can be accessed directly from your bank’s mobile app, and it allows you to send instant transfers at no extra cost. —Venmo: Anyone can use Venmo, as long as they’ve downloaded the app. Unlike Apple Cash or Zelle, it’s a standalone P2P payment app. Venmo comes with a social element — users can follow each other and add fun emojis to their payments, although they can also keep their account activity private. —PayPal: This P2P payment service is a good option if you want to send money internationally. It also offers a PayPal Debit card, which, like the Apple Cash card, can be used to make purchases online or in stores. —Samsung Pay Cash: Samsung device users can use this option instead of Apple Cash. Similar to Apple Cash, it is a digital wallet that you can access from a Samsung mobile device. However, to take full advantage of Samsung Pay Cash, users will need to undergo an extra registration process to upgrade to a Full Card Account. Apple Cash makes it easy for Apple device users to send money to each other. Users can simply tap the Apple Cash icon in their text messages to send money through iMessage. It can also be used as an extra repository for spending money and can be used for purchases anywhere Apple Pay is accepted. With that said, only Apple device users can send and receive money using Apple Cash, so those looking for a more universal payment service may want to consider other P2P payment apps . ©2024 Bankrate.com. MIDLOTHIAN—This past Monday, as I looked at the old Midlothian City Hall (which I just learned was once an old dress factory) and then turned my head to look at the new City Hall across the street at 215 N. 8th Street, I immediately realized just how poised the city is for positive future growth. This Saturday, December 7, beginning at 10 a.m., the community can tour the new City Hall and Library as the city celebrates its official grand opening. The ceremony will be followed by tours and refreshments and will coincide with Midlothian’s annual Christmas Celebration from 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Movie Magic Light-Up parade at 6 p.m., which will also be held downtown. “The new City Hall and Library is dedicated to all the citizens who supported its construction and those that participated in the planning process all along the way,” said Midlothian Mayor Justin Coffman. “The building was designed first and foremost with accessibility, efficiency, and convenience for the public in mind. It is intended to serve our citizens for generations to come.” I got my sneak peek at the new location earlier this week, along with a quick tour of the new City Hall and Library. Turning into the large parking lot on the west side of the building, I snaked my way around the construction workers putting on the finishing touches for Saturday’s celebration. There are also additional parking spaces that can be accessed from Avenue F. From the parking lot, I navigated my way inside the welcoming doors and to the customer service windows at the west entrance. Residents can make payments at the windows, and visitors like me can be directed to one of the departments on the first or second floor. Communications Director Laurie Lundberg describes the new City Hall as “neoclassical architecture with a red-brick façade. ” The structure complements the downtown area. Lundberg explained many aspects of the building on our tour. She pointed out an enormous skylight atop a 45-foot atrium with glass-lined offices to let the light in throughout the office spaces, with the idea to bring the outdoors inside. The building, designed by Hoefer Welker Architects and constructed by Hoefer Welker with Vidaurri Construction, feels spacious and quite regal upon entering. And that is the case whether you enter the main hall entrance on the east or west side of the building. There is also an additional entrance to the Library from Avenue F. The total square footage of the City Hall and Library is 54,000, with two stories and elevators or stairs. Ten city departments have moved into the new location: Administration, Building Inspections, Engineering, Planning, Finance and Purchasing, Human Resources, Information Technology, Parks and Recreation, and Utility Services. The Council Chambers has fixed stadium seating for 150 people on the first floor, and there’s meeting space upstairs that can be used for overflow if needed. Another great feature for the community is the 2,000-square-foot community meeting space with a kitchenette. This space can accommodate 170 people in one space or be divided into two spaces. Residents can reserve it for special events. I also toured the library, which has separate spaces for children, teens, and adults. The children’s space is downstairs, and a tree sculpture spans both the first and second floors to bring the outdoors in. Children can also enjoy the outdoor play area with a shade structure adjacent to the building. Upstairs are books and quiet reading rooms where adults can work or study. The Library also has a media room with a soundproof recording pod that will be ready for use by spring. Since 2005, the Midlothian Library has shared space with the Midlothian High School Library. Now that the library has its own space, it has seen record circulation, attendance, and library card sign-ups since opening on November 18, according to Alexis Tackett, the Library Director. Fun fact: the library’s book collection currently numbers 23,447 physical holdings and 1.7 million digital resources. Clyde Melick, Midlothian’s Assistant City Manager who oversaw the project, concluded, “The Downtown Master Plan identified the new town square as a major catalyst for rejuvenating Midlothian’s downtown. As hoped, its construction spurred the interest of private developers to follow suit by investing in projects such as the Lawson District, which is transforming a vacant commercial building on the corner of 7th Street and Main into restaurants, shops, and office space.”
