( MENAFN - IANS) Melbourne, Dec 28 (IANS) Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar slammed Rishabh Pant for his ridiculous dismissal in the ongoing Boxing Day Test, saying it was 'a stupid shot' and that the wicketkeeper-batter let his team down when they needed him to bat long. Against Scott Boland in the 56th over, Pant had tried playing a falling ramp shot, but inside-edged the ball onto his stomach. Australia skipper Pat Cummins had placed fielders in the deep in fine leg and third man in case Pant repeated that shot. It did happen that way as on the next ball Pant tried the same shot, but to his horror, this time the top-edge went to Nathan Lyon at deep third man, as the batter was dismissed for 28 off 37 balls, leaving Gavaskar livid. "Stupid, stupid, stupid! You've got two fielders there and you still go for that. You missed the previous shot, and look where you've been caught. That is throwing away your wicket. You cannot say that that's your natural game. I'm sorry. That is not your natural game. That is a stupid shot. That is letting your team down badly. You have to understand the situation as well. He should not be going in that (India's) dressing room, he should be going in the other dressing room," said Gavaskar on ABC Sport. In this series so far, Pant has averaged just 20.66, with his highest score being 37. On Fox Cricket, Australia women's captain Alyssa Healy and former men's player Kerry O'Keeffe lauded Cummins for his spot-on field placing to get Pant out. “You sense that Pant was placed there for such a shot. They also had the two deep (fielders) on the leg side, a fine leg and a backward square anticipating something like that,” O'Keeffe noted. “Obviously Rishabh didn't mean the ball to go to Nathan Lyon, but with two out on the leg side it's a risky shot,” added Alyssa.“Pat was grinning, he knew he had the field right there,” replied O'Keeffe. Meanwhile, Gavaskar suggested for all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy to be promoted up the batting order, citing that the youngster is more responsible and aware of the game situation. Before lunch break came, Reddy showcased his good footwork and proactiveness to be not out on 40. In the series, Reddy has been a revelation with the bat, showcasing maturity and composure on his first tour of Australia. "He should be promoted up the order, because he bats with a great deal of responsibility. He bats with a great deal of awareness of the situation. Awareness of the situation is so important when you're playing Test cricket." NoneWisconsin faces its first losing season in 23 years and the end of a bowl streak when the Badgers host arch-rival Minnesota on Friday in the annual Big Ten battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe. Minnesota (6-5, 4-4) lost to No. 4 Penn State 26-25. Wisconsin (5-6, 3-5 Big Ten) lost its fourth straight, 44-25, at Nebraska in a game that was not as close as the score. "Well 1890 is the first time we played this football team coming up and this is what it's all about," Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck said of the rivalry. "And you wouldn't want to have it any other way, being able to end the season with one of your biggest rivals. I know our guys will be ready to go, ready to play." Wisconsin has 22 consecutive winning seasons since going 5-7 under Barry Alvarez in 2001, the longest active streak among Power 4 teams. The Badgers also have played in a bowl game in each of the last 22 seasons, the longest active streak in the Big Ten and third-longest in FBS. Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell is more concerned with the rivalry game than the winning season and bowl streaks. "I'm not downplaying it, I'm not saying it's not important, I'm not saying it's another thing that's on our plate," Fickell said Monday. "But when it gets down to this last week, it's about one thing, it's about the rivalry. It's about preparing to play in the most important game of the year." The Gophers have dropped their last two games after winning four in a row. Minnesota averages 26.6 points per game, while allowing 18.5, 15th-best in the country. Max Brosmer has completed 67 percent of his passes for 221 per game with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. Daniel Jackson is the top target with 69 catches for 802 yards and three scores, and Darius Taylor is the top rusher with 730 yards at 4.8 per carry with nine touchdowns. One week after leading Oregon after three quarters, the Wisconsin defense was shredded for 473 yards and five touchdowns by Nebraska. Braedyn Locke, who took over at quarterback when Tyler Van Dyke suffered an early season-ending knee injury, has thrown at least one interception in eight consecutive games. Locke has completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 180.6 yards per game, with 12 touchdowns and 10 picks. Tawee Walker is the leading rusher with 828 yards at 4.7 per carry with 10 touchdowns. He has failed to reach 60 yards in three of the last four games. Former Wisconsin and NFL standout JJ Watt posted on social media his assessment - and frustration - with the Badgers after the Nebraska game. "Losing happens, it's part of the game. Hearing announcers talk about how much tougher and more physical Nebraska & Iowa are while getting blown out ... that's the issue," Watt wrote on X. "We are Wisconsin. Physicality, running game, great O-Line and great defense. That is our identity." Wisconsin defeated the Gophers 28-14 last after Minnesota had won the previous two meetings. The Badgers have won 7 of the last 10 and lead the storied series 63-62-8. --Field Level MediaReal People Share Their Favorite Target Purchases Of 2024

Even though iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 added multiple Apple Intelligence features like Image Playground , Genmoji , Writing Tools, and more, there are still new ‌Apple Intelligence‌ capabilities that we're waiting on. Apple has at least one more major ‌Apple Intelligence‌ update coming in 2025, and the functionality that we're expecting is outlined below. Priority Notifications Notification summaries are already available on devices that support ‌Apple Intelligence‌, but in a future version of iOS 18 , ‌Apple Intelligence‌ will have Priority Notifications so you can see what's important first while filtering out things that don't matter as much. When Priority Notifications launch, incoming notifications that are marked as priority will show up on the top of the notification stack. New Siri Features Siri already has a new design and a better understanding of natural language on ‌Apple Intelligence‌ devices, but there are several ‌Siri‌ changes that haven't been added yet. In the future, ‌Siri‌ is getting support for personal context, onscreen awareness, and deeper app integration. Personal context will allow ‌Siri‌ to keep track of everything on your device, like text messages, emails, files, and photos, so ‌Siri‌ can help you find anything you're looking for. With onscreen awareness, ‌Siri‌ will know what you're looking at on your device, and will be able to complete actions. If you're viewing a photo, for example, you'll be able to ask ‌Siri‌ to send it to someone just by saying "Hey ‌Siri‌, send this" and the person's name. ‌Siri‌ will understand what "this" is. ‌Siri‌ is also going to be able to do a lot more in apps and between apps, which is likely going to make the biggest change in ‌Siri‌'s ability to get things done. You'll be able to edit a photo and send it to someone all with a single command, or move files from one app to another using ‌Siri‌. The way Apple describes it, it's going to be similar to Shortcuts, but activated all via ‌Siri‌ with no need to set anything up. These all sound like fairly invasive ‌Siri‌ features with ‌Siri‌ able to track everything on a device, but Apple plans on doing these things on-device to preserve privacy. Genmoji on macOS Apple added ‌Genmoji‌ to the iPhone and the iPad with the launch of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, but it wasn't added to the Mac in macOS Sequoia 15.2. We already know ‌Genmoji‌ is in the macOS Sequoia 15.3 update that Apple is beta testing, and that update is expected in January 2025. Memory Movies for macOS Macs are also missing the memory movies feature that is designed to let you create a slideshow from your photos and videos using just a text description. Right now, making a memory movie is limited to the ‌iPhone‌ and ‌iPad‌, but Apple does plan to add it to the Mac too. You can create a custom memory movie by going to the Memories section in the Photos app, tapping on Create, and then typing in the description of the movie that you want to see. The ‌Photos‌ app will pick out the most logical photos and videos that fit the theme you've specified, creating a slideshow set to music. You can edit the photos that are included, change the music, and share the result on social media. Apple Intelligence in More Languages and Additional Countries Apple is going to add support for languages beyond English in 2025, including Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese. When We'll Get New Apple Intelligence Features Beyond ‌Genmoji‌ for the Mac, there aren't new ‌Apple Intelligence‌ features in the current iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and ‌macOS Sequoia‌ 15.3 updates that Apple is beta testing right now, so we're not expecting new capabilities until iOS 18.4. iOS 18.3 will likely see a launch in late January, and then we'll get the iOS 18.4 beta. iOS 18.4 and its sister updates will be beta tested for a couple months, with Apple planning for an April 2024 launch. One of the consequences of transportation at this scale is that shipping as a sector is responsible for 2-3% of the emissions in the world. Shipping now produces more than a billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) every year, according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Traditional shipping fuel is made up of heavy oils, commonly known as bunker fuel. When burned these fuels cause high levels of pollutants including harmful particulates and sulphur dioxide. Ship fuels contain around 2,000 times as much sulphur as diesel fuel used in cars. A new generation of shipping fuels is being developed to accelerate the decarbonization of the shipping sector. Green hydrogen and its derivatives, e-ethanol and e-ammonia, are emerging as cornerstone solutions for maritime decarbonization. These fuels align with the IMO’s progress towards a set of binding global regulations for the industry, with a goal of net-zero shipping by, or around 2050. Hydrogen and synthetic fuels could cut shipping emissions by 80-100%. Image: IMO When hydrogen is produced through electrolysis powered by renewable energy, it can be synthesized into green fuels like e-methanol and e-ammonia. Industry pioneers are already moving to scale up production. For example, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has secured a 126,000-hectare plot in Western Australia to build a large-scale renewable energy project – the Murchison project – that once operational, will utilize combined onshore wind and solar energy to produce green ammonia. The plant could reduce annual CO2 emissions by 4.4 million tonnes, the company says. This shift toward green fuels is creating opportunities for countries with abundant renewable energy resources. In Africa, companies like Phelan Green Energy in South Africa and Hyphen Hydrogen Energy in Namibia are developing facilities to produce e-ammonia at scale. Hyphen’s plant will be one of the largest and most advanced green hydrogen plants in the world. Investment in the plant has topped $10 billion, which is equivalent to Namibia’s annual GDP. The fuel it produces will offset 5-6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, the company says. These innovators are members of the World Economic Forum’s First Suppliers Hub, part of the First Movers Coalition. The First Suppliers Hub is a carefully curated repository of decarbonization projects that meet stringent emissions-reduction criteria. However, scaling hydrogen-based fuel technologies involves complex market dynamics. Success requires coordinated action from an ecosystem of suppliers, buyers, financiers and policymakers. The First Suppliers Hub plays a crucial role here, identifying promising decarbonization projects and convening key stakeholders to overcome deployment challenges. By Jarrell Dillard, Prashant Gopal and Maria Clara Cobo | Bloomberg Before Donald Trump’s election, Redfin Corp. projected mortgage rates would average 6.1% next year. But three days after the election, they revised their estimate upward to 6.8% – basically unchanged from today’s high levels. “The difference is Trump,” said Daryl Fairweather, chief economist at Redfin. “The market seems to be pricing in that he’ll move forward with at least some of the tariffs, but it’s really hard to know what Trump is going to do.” It’s another hit for the housing market, which has been dealing with a rise in borrowing costs that’s pushed at least one measure of mortgage rates above 7%. Economists expecting higher-for-longer borrowing costs shows just how tough the market is likely to be for homebuyers trying to find affordable options. “There was a view that rates would gradually fall, but that no longer seems to be the case,” said Thomas Ryan, North America economist at Capital Economics. “As a result, the housing market is going to stay frozen — as it is — for longer than we and other economists had expected.” While the stock market rallied the day after Trump’s victory, the bond market has reacted with more trepidation given how tariffs and other policies might impact inflation. After the election, Barclays Plc economists raised their inflation projections for the next two years and lowered their outlook for economic growth, due to tariffs and potential immigration restrictions. Trump’s proposal for an up to 20% tariff on all imports, and an even higher 60% tariff on Chinese goods, is one of the major causes of uncertainty. Economists have said this could lead to inflation as companies would likely pass on those cost increases to consumers. If he also imposes tax cuts, that could lower fiscal revenue and drive up the US deficit, pushing long-term rates even higher. Some economists have also warned that Trump’s plan to deport millions of undocumented immigrants could further exacerbate the nation’s housing shortage. If Trump’s policies lead to an even smaller labor force for the construction industry, it would make it difficult to build new homes and make costs even more expensive. “We need labor,” said Nadia Evangelou, senior economist at the National Association of Realtors. “Sometimes homebuilders are not able to deliver affordable homes, or the price point that people can afford to buy. And the reason is because of the labor shortage.” Trump’s impacts on the economy will likely influence how the Federal Reserve proceeds. And while the Fed’s decisions on short-term interest rates do not directly set mortgage rates, monetary policy does have some influence. Mortgage rates closely follow yields on 10-year Treasuries, and are affected by market expectations for inflation and economic growth. Capital Economics expects higher rates to be another “setback” for buyers and cause a home-sale recovery to be even shallower than expected. Mortgage rates will likely stay high around 7% in 2024 and drop only a quarter point by the end of 2025, according to Capital Economics’ Ryan. “There’s a general consensus that the net effect of Trump’s policies will be inflationary,” Ryan said. “That’s what’s driving changes in the bond market at the moment.” Other economists have also dialed back their mortgage-rate expectations. Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, predicts 30-year fixed mortgage rates will now remain around 7%. “I don’t think I’d count on mortgage rates coming down anytime until next fall, later next year,” Zandi said. “And even then, I’m not sure. It really depends on what his policies are, how aggressively he pursues them.” Forging aAhead For buyers, the picture remains a little uncertain. High borrowing costs have weighed on shoppers, fueling a drop in contracts to buy previously owned homes in October, according to Redfin. While prices held up in October, homes stayed a median of 41 days on the market, about a week longer than a year ago, according to Redfin. If higher borrowing costs slow the market even more, that could help spur more deals for buyers. For now, election uncertainty has cleared, giving some consumers more confidence to forge ahead. Erica Diaz, an agent with Homevest in Florida, said her business has seen a significant increase in both potential buyers and sellers since the election. Malvin Le, a real estate agent based in Orange County, California, said his phone lit up immediately after the election with a few buyers ready to go shopping again. “The day after the election, I got three or four calls from buyers who wanted to see a house that weekend,” Le said. “There are still buyers waiting to buy, they’re just waiting for a good deal.” Related Articles Housing | Criminal charges and jail time now part of predatory mortgage lending law in California Housing | 30-year mortgage hit highest level since July Housing | Mortgage refinancing, auto loans rejected at highest rate since 2013 Housing | US mortgage rates dip, but economists see volatility ahead Housing | Mortgage rates fell, then rose. What comes next?Amid renewed interest in the killing of JonBenét Ramsey triggered in part by a new Netflix documentary, police in Boulder, Colo., refuted assertions this week that there is viable evidence and leads about the 1996 killing of the six-year-old girl that they are not pursuing. JonBenét Ramsey, who competed in beauty pageants, was found dead in the basement of her family's home in the college town of Boulder the day after Christmas in 1996. Her body was found several hours after her mother called 911 to say her daughter was missing and a ransom note had been left behind. The details of the crime and video footage of JonBenét competing in pageants propelled the case into one of the highest-profile mysteries in the United States. The police comments came as part of their annual update on the investigation, a month before the 28th anniversary of her killing. Police said they released it a little earlier due to the increased attention on the case, apparently referring to the three-part Netflix series Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey . In a video statement, Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said the department welcomes news coverage and documentaries about the killing of JonBenét, who would have been 34 this year, as a way to generate possible new leads. He said the department is committed to solving the case, but needs to be careful about what it shares about the investigation to protect a possible future prosecution. "What I can tell you, though, is we have thoroughly investigated multiple people as suspects throughout the years and we continue to be open-minded about what occurred as we investigate the tips that come into detectives," he said. Cold case gets renewed attention with new doc The Netflix documentary focuses on the mistakes made by police and the "media circus" surrounding the case. In this file photo from 2000, Patsy Ramsey, left, and her husband John Ramsey produce a picture of JonBenét Ramsey during a press conference in Atlanta. The new Netflix documentary alleges that the family were victims of a problematic police force. (Stringer/Reuters) JonBenét was bludgeoned and strangled. Her death was ruled a homicide, but nobody was ever prosecuted for it. Police were widely criticized for mishandling the early investigation into her death amid speculation that her family was responsible. However, a prosecutor cleared her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, and brother Burke in 2008 based on new DNA evidence from JonBenét's clothing that pointed to the involvement of an "unexplained third party" in her slaying. The announcement by former district attorney Mary Lacy came two years after Patsy Ramsey died of cancer. Lacy called the Ramseys "victims of this crime." John Ramsey has continued to speak out for the case to be solved. In 2022, he supported an online petition asking Colorado's governor to intervene in the investigation by putting an outside agency in charge of DNA testing in the case. In the Netflix documentary, he said he has been advocating for several items that have not been prepared for DNA testing to be tested and for other items to be retested. He said the results should be put through a genealogy database. In recent years, investigators have identified suspects in unsolved cases by comparing DNA profiles from crime scenes and to DNA testing results shared online by people researching their family trees. In 2021, police said in their annual update that DNA hadn't been ruled out to help solve the case, and in 2022 noted that some evidence could be "consumed" if DNA testing is done on it. Last year, police said they had convened a panel of outside experts to review the investigation to give recommendations and determine if updated technologies or forensic testing might produce new leads. In the latest update, Redfearn said that review had ended but that police continue to work through and evaluate a "lengthy list of recommendations" from the panel.
