US stocks surge to records on tech gains, Fed rate cut hopesIt was a memorable moment for head coach Kevin O’Connell last weekend in the locker room at Lumen Field in Seattle. After the Vikings earned a 27-24 win over the Seahawks, O’Connell went through his usual routine of handing out game balls to his players. ADVERTISEMENT He recognized kicker Will Reichard and punter Ryan Wright for their prowess on special teams. He recognized safety Theo Jackson, edge rusher Dallas Turner and edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel for the impact they made on defense. He recognized receiver Justin Jefferson and quarterback Sam Darnold for making everything go on offense. Just before the Vikings started packing up, right tackle Brian O’Neill took the floor, flipping a game ball to O’Connell to recognize him for becoming the only head coach in franchise history to win at least 13 games more than once. The locker room erupted and appropriately mobbed their leader in celebration. As he reflected Friday on that particular exchange, O’Connell couldn’t help but smile. “Nobody I respect more than Brian O’Neill,” O’Connell said. “To get that from him in that moment was really special.” It’s clear how much respect O’Connell has earned since taking over the Vikings. Ask any of his players about him and they will go out of their way to make a pitch for him winning NFL Coach of the Year. As the current betting favorite in Las Vegas, O’Connell could very well be on his way to winning that annual accolade. Not that any of his players are surprised. They also aren’t surprised that O’Connell has already made franchise history. It’s a testament to the culture he has worked so hard to build over the past few seasons. ADVERTISEMENT “That’s a credit to who he is as a person,” tight end T.J. Hockenson said. “We’re very fortunate to be able to play under him.” As for O’Connell getting the game ball, Darnold joked that it was long overdue. “It was awesome,” Darnold said. “Just the way that KO approaches every single week, the way that he gets us ready, the way that he keeps everything very relaxed on game day, it helps us go out there and play loose and free.” Briefly There’s a chance linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. (hamstring) could make his return when the Vikings host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon. He is being listed as questionable as he works through the final stages of the recovery process. He would need to be activated off injured reserve in order to play, which means the Vikings would have to make a corresponding roster move. ______________________________________________________ This story was written by one of our partner news agencies. Kanesatake app on the wayNovember 22 - San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will not play Sunday and head coach Kyle Shanahan said the lingering discomfort is a concern. Purdy sat out Friday after he participated in the start of Thursday's practice with the 49ers, then retreated indoors for what Shanahan said was a treatment session. Brandon Allen, 32, will start in Purdy's place, and the 49ers are also without defensive end Nick Bosa (oblique). Shanahan said players believe in Allen, even if he's an unknown. "Outside of here people haven't seen a lot of Brandon. But it's his second year (with the 49ers)," Shanahan said. "Obviously guys want Brock up, but guys are excited to see Brandon play." Shanahan said they are "a little surprised" Purdy experienced tightness and discomfort in his shoulder after an MRI exam on Monday that showed no long-term cause for concern. "The way it responded this week, it's really up in the air for next week," Shanahan said of Purdy. Allen is familiar to Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, who was an assistant coach with the Rams during Allen's two-year run in Los Angeles. Allen broke into the NFL in 2016 with the Jaguars and is 2-7 in nine career starts. He went 1-2 with the Broncos in 2019 and 1-5 in six starts over two years with the Bengals in 2020 and ‘21. Shanahan said Allen's confidence grew throughout the week and he doesn't anticipate a major change in how he calls the offense. Left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) also missed practice for the third consecutive day. Without disclosing the nature of the ailment to Purdy's throwing shoulder, general manager John Lynch confirmed Friday an MRI exam took place to determine the severity of any injury. Allen worked with the first team most of Thursday and Friday with Joshua Dobbs also taking snaps. Lynch described Purdy's status for the 49ers (5-5) this week as "tenuous." "Hopefully, he makes progress, and we can have a shot at this weekend, but we'll see," Lynch said in an interview with KNBR in San Francisco. "I think it's tenuous." When Purdy was on the field this week, he primarily worked on the side in position-specific drills with QB coach Brian Griese. Williams played through an ankle injury last week after being listed as questionable but exited the stadium with an exaggerated limp on Sunday. Run game coordinator Chris Foerster said the 49ers aren't where they want to be at 5-5 because they haven't won close games, not because of injuries. "Seven games left is like an eternity," Foerster said. "So much can happen. Do the math. What was our record last year? It was 12-5. I was on a 13-win team that was nowhere near as good as the team last year." With or without Purdy, Foerster said the challenge for the 49ers is not to give up the ball to a defense that has 19 takeaways. The 49ers have 13 giveaways this season. --Field Level Media Our Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles. , opens new tab

Jewish community members are gathering in solidarity following the firebombing of the Adass Israel Synagogue as the incident continues to fuel political division. or signup to continue reading More than a thousand community members were expected to meet at an undisclosed location in Ripponlea to "stand against hate" on Sunday. The rally will finish with flowers being laid at the synagogue. "This rally is a moment to unite, reflect and reaffirm our shared commitment to resilience and togetherness in our community," organisers J-United said. Cabinet minister Murray Watt described Friday's attack as an "absolutely horrific anti-Semitic attack" before alleging Opposition Leader Peter Dutton had politicised the incident. Mr Watt also refuted Mr Dutton's claims that the government had made Australia less safe for Jewish people and that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had not done enough to address anti-Semitism. The political debate was largely ignited by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who on Saturday condemned the synagogue attack and linked it to Australia's decision to support a non-binding UN General Assembly resolution. Australia is one of 157 countries, including the UK, Canada and New Zealand urging Israel to end its presence in Palestine. The Australian Palestine Advocacy Network says any attack on a place of worship is an unacceptable act of hate but has accused Mr Netanyahu of deliberately sow division. Although not part of the Adass Israel congregation, Caulfield resident Hallely Kimchi said it was time for more to be done to protect Jewish people. "It is not about Israel. It's about Jews in Melbourne - forget about Israel at the moment," she said as the rally was getting under way. "There are people that have been abused and have never been to Israel. "Jews living in Melbourne should feel safe and proud to do whatever they want and to work without being doxxed or boycotted." The synagogue remains closed to the public after it was set alight by two masked men in what police have described as a targeted attack. Two of its three buildings were gutted and two congregants who were inside at the time preparing for morning prayers were evacuated, one suffering minor injuries. Police have confirmed they are also investigating reports of a bullet found on a footpath near the Synagogue in Glen Eira Road on Saturday afternoon. Community members laid flowers outside a makeshift memorial outside the Synagogue on Sunday morning. The attack on a place of worship, which was built by Holocaust survivors, has led to a heightened sense of fear in the community, Executive Council of Australian Jewry president Daniel Aghion said. Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan confirmed increased police patrols to bolster safety into the coming week and pledged $100,000 towards rebuilding. Despite condemning the attack, she is not expected to attend Sunday's rally. The incident has meanwhile prompted NSW to consider new laws to better protect religious freedoms. Premier Chris Minns said he would consider reforms to laws regulating protests outside religious institutions. A pro-Palestine rally is also planned outside the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne CBD on Sunday that will end with a march through the CBD. DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team. The TV personality, 46 - who is selling her fake Christmas trees on social media amid ongoing money woes - claimed the incident took place at their Georgia mansion which is set to be auctioned off on Tuesday. Zolciak and Biermann have been embroiled in an ongoing and tumultuous divorce battle since initially announcing their split last year in May. According to a report obtained by TMZ , the Milton Police Department responded to a domestic violence call last week just one day before Thanksgiving on November 27. When authorities arrived to the home, Zolciak claimed that while standing on a ladder to take down curtains, the former NFL player had become confrontational. She then accused Biermann, 39, of removing her from the ladder and throwing her to the floor. Two of their children - who were not named in the report - had witnessed the alleged altercation inside the house, and later spoke to authorities after they arrived to the scene. Kim and Kroy share KJ, 13, Kash, 12, as well as twins Kaia and Kane, 11. Upon marrying in 2011, Biermann also adopted Zolciak's daughters Brielle, 27, and Ariana, 23, from a previous relationship. However, one of their younger daughters told police that the reality star had fallen from the ladder which contradicted her claims that Kroy had thrown her to the ground. She also told authorities that Biermann had been the one taking down the curtains - which proceeded to make Zolciak upset. The media personality then climbed up onto a ladder to begin removing the curtains herself, and then fell on top of her estranged husband. The daughter told officers that Kroy had previously talked to her and informed her to be honest when the police asked her questions. But she said Biermann never told her what to say. One of their sons had also been inside the mansion at the time and came up from the basement upon hearing the argument, but also did not see Kroy pull Kim off the ladder. Read More Police issue stark warning to Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann amid nasty divorce However, after taking both the estranged couple's sides of the story, police were unable to decide who the 'primary aggressor' was. DailyMail.com has contacted a representative for comment. It comes only days after the estranged couple were warned by police to stay away from each other. On November 18, Kim and Kroy had police called to their Georgia mansion following a domestic dispute , as their increasingly contentious divorce took another dramatic turn. At the time, officers responded to the pair’s home after a 911 call reported a 'heated argument', according to TMZ. Sources say the responding officers concluded that it was a verbal exchange with no physical altercation. Cops 'calmed Kim and Kroy down,' took an incident report, and made no arrests, as no crime was determined to have been committed, per the insider. This incident came shortly after the former couple slashed another $300,000 off their asking price for the mansion in an urgent attempt to sell it before Tuesday's auction. Originally listed for $6 million in October 2023, the price was reduced to $4.5 million in January, then further cut to $3.95 million in August. But earlier this month, Kim and Kroy - who has gotten a new job amid their divorce - dropped the price once again to $3.65 million, according to real estate records obtained by TMZ. Cutting the price down by $300k came not long after Zolciak accused Kroy of spying on her in their home. The star filed a motion nearly two months earlier on October 9, alleging that Biermann invaded her privacy. This drama isn’t new, either. Zolciak has made similar accusations against her estranged husband before, claiming back in January and May that he had taken her phone and other personal items. The tension between these two has been simmering for months, with Zolciak even calling the police in May after claiming Kroy snatched her phone and locked himself in the master bedroom. During the July premiere of Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets, Kim broke down in tears discussing the divorce. She teared up during a 'screaming therapy' session on the MTV reality show. Over one year earlier in May 2023, The Real Housewives Of Atlanta alum officially filed for divorce from Kroy after the two tied the knot in 2011. The tension between these two has been simmering for months, with Zolciak even calling the police in May after claiming Kroy snatched her phone and locked himself in the master bedroom The news of Kim and Kroy's separation came as a shock, exacerbated by their financial troubles, including a reported $1.1 million in unpaid taxes to the IRS. In July 2023, Kim briefly called off the divorce as they tried to mend their relationship. However, Kroy filed for divorce again in August, citing that the marriage was 'irretrievably broken.' Amid the ongoing divorce, the pair's Georgia mansion is scheduled to be auctioned off on Tuesday, December 3 by Truist Bank. Last week, Zolciak was seen officially moving out the home after the former couple failed to sell the seven-bedroom property ahead of the auction. In fact, the Finance Ministry said on 3 December 2024 that there is no plan to constitute the Eighth Pay Commission in the near future. Let us tell you that more than one crore central government employees and pensioners are waiting for the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. Its implementation will increase the basic salary, allowances, pension and other benefits of the employees. What did the government say Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, said that at present no proposal is being considered to constitute the 8th Central Pay Commission. Actually, it was asked whether the central government is thinking of announcing the new pay commission in the Union Budget 2025-26. Constituted every 10 years The Central Pay Commission is generally constituted every 10 years to assess and suggest changes in the salaries, allowances and perks of central government employees. The 7th Pay Commission was constituted by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on February 28, 2014. It submitted its recommendations on November 19, 2015 and the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission came into effect from January 1, 2016. Whenever a pay commission is implemented, it usually leads to a revision in the salary structure of central government employees and pensioners. The salary usually includes dearness allowance and dearness relief (DR). Currently, central employees get DA of 53 per cent. The same allowance is also given to pensioners. The government increases the allowance i.e. DA twice a year. This is done on a half-yearly basis. Norway: The company of the ship accused by Moscow responds to the rescue of Russians in the Mediterranean

Business leaders across the country are struggling to find the best way to manage rising polarization and political disagreement at work . On Tuesday, December 10, Newsweek is hosting a panel event to discuss this thorny topic from all angles. Opening remarks will be delivered by Jim Link, CHRO of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world's largest HR professional association, which will also sponsor the event. The discussion, titled "Better Workplaces: How to Foster Inclusion and Civility," will include insights from legal, medical and social psychology experts, and feature advice for professionals in HR, DEI and communications. The national mood has been tense, and people are unhappy. But we still have work to get done, together, every single day. What's complicating matters is that we increasingly have less respect for those on the other side of the aisle politically. A 2022 Pew Survey found that 72 percent of Republicans and 63 percent of Democrats feel that members of the other party are more immoral, and the number of people saying that members of the other party are dishonest, unintelligent or lazy has spiked since 2016. This strain of conflict is common on the internet and in bars, but it's also making its way to watercoolers, factory floors and even the boardroom. A contentious election cycle surely didn't help, but this is a persistent problem, one that impacts us well past Election Day . Maintaining a year-round focus on respectful culture and setting ground rules for political expression and exchange are key, experts tell Newsweek . Tuesday evening's event will also include a video presentation featuring commentary from the winners of the Newsweek -Stubblefield Civility Awards. In partnership with the Stubblefield Institute, we will be recognizing business executives, members of Congress and other community leaders for their exceptional efforts to promote civility in our public discourse. Panelists include: Stephen Paskoff: Paskoff is a former EEOC attorney and the founder and CEO of ELI, or Employment Learning Innovations, a company he has been running since 1986 that trains business leaders and employees so that their cultural values and behavioral standards ensure a productive and legally compliant work environment. He has written extensively on workplace compliance, including the 2016 book CIVILITY Rules! A New Business Approach to Boosting Results and Cutting Risks . Gabriella Rosen Kellerman, MD: The chief innovation officer at BetterUp, a well-being platform with a focus on manager training and coaching, Kellerman leads an interdisciplinary research lab that has been studying employee sentiment around the election and other times throughout the year. She has worked on global mental health policy and interventions for the World Health Organization and is a longtime executive at, and adviser to, health care, coaching and behavior change technology companies. Michael Franklin: Executive director of Speechwriters of Color and leader of an executive communications firm, Franklin is a dynamic member of Gen Z and his field. A federal appeals court panel on Friday unanimously upheld a law that could lead to a ban on TikTok in a few short months, handing a resounding defeat to the popular social media platform as it fights for its survival in the U.S. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit denied TikTok's petition to overturn the law — which requires TikTok to break ties with its China-based parent company ByteDance or be banned by mid-January — and rebuffed the company's challenge of the statute, which it argued had ran afoul of the First Amendment. “The First Amendment exists to protect free speech in the United States,” said the court's opinion, which was written by Judge Douglas Ginsburg. “Here the Government acted solely to protect that freedom from a foreign adversary nation and to limit that adversary’s ability to gather data on people in the United States.” TikTok and ByteDance — another plaintiff in the lawsuit — are expected to appeal to the Supreme Court, though its unclear whether the court will take up the case. “The Supreme Court has an established historical record of protecting Americans’ right to free speech, and we expect they will do just that on this important constitutional issue," TikTok spokesperson Michael Hughes said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the TikTok ban was conceived and pushed through based upon inaccurate, flawed and hypothetical information, resulting in outright censorship of the American people,” Hughes said. Unless stopped, he argued the statute “will silence the voices of over 170 million Americans here in the US and around the world on January 19th, 2025.” Though the case is squarely in the court system, its also possible the two companies might be thrown some sort of a lifeline by President-elect Donald Trump, who tried to ban TikTok during his first term but said during the presidential campaign that he is now against such action . The law, signed by President Joe Biden in April, was the culmination of a years-long saga in Washington over the short-form video-sharing app, which the government sees as a national security threat due to its connections to China. The U.S. has said it’s concerned about TikTok collecting vast swaths of user data, including sensitive information on viewing habits , that could fall into the hands of the Chinese government through coercion. Officials have also warned the proprietary algorithm that fuels what users see on the app is vulnerable to manipulation by Chinese authorities, who can use it to shape content on the platform in a way that’s difficult to detect — a concern mirrored by the European Union on Friday as it scrutinizes the video-sharing app’s role in the Romanian elections. TikTok, which sued the government over the law in May, has long denied it could be used by Beijing to spy on or manipulate Americans. Its attorneys have accurately pointed out that the U.S. hasn’t provided evidence to show that the company handed over user data to the Chinese government, or manipulated content for Beijing’s benefit in the U.S. They have also argued the law is predicated on future risks, which the Department of Justice has emphasized pointing in part to unspecified action it claims the two companies have taken in the past due to demands from the Chinese government. Friday’s ruling came after the appeals court panel, composed of two Republican and one Democrat appointed judges, heard oral arguments in September. In the hearing, which lasted more than two hours, the panel appeared to grapple with how TikTok’s foreign ownership affects its rights under the Constitution and how far the government could go to curtail potential influence from abroad on a foreign-owned platform. On Friday, all three of them denied TikTok’s petition. In the court's ruling, Ginsburg, a Republican appointee, rejected TikTok's main legal arguments against the law, including that the statute was an unlawful bill of attainder or a taking of property in violation of the Fifth Amendment. He also said the law did not violate the First Amendment because the government is not looking to "suppress content or require a certain mix of content” on TikTok. “Content on the platform could in principle remain unchanged after divestiture, and people in the United States would remain free to read and share as much PRC propaganda (or any other content) as they desire on TikTok or any other platform of their choosing,” Ginsburg wrote, using the abbreviation for the People’s Republic of China. Judge Sri Srinivasan, the chief judge on the court, issued a concurring opinion. TikTok’s lawsuit was consolidated with a second legal challenge brought by several content creators - for which the company is covering legal costs - as well as a third one filed on behalf of conservative creators who work with a nonprofit called BASED Politics Inc. Other organizations, including the Knight First Amendment Institute, had also filed amicus briefs supporting TikTok. “This is a deeply misguided ruling that reads important First Amendment precedents too narrowly and gives the government sweeping power to restrict Americans’ access to information, ideas, and media from abroad,” said Jameel Jaffer, the executive director of the organization. “We hope that the appeals court’s ruling won’t be the last word.” Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, lawmakers who had pushed for the legislation celebrated the court's ruling. "I am optimistic that President Trump will facilitate an American takeover of TikTok to allow its continued use in the United States and I look forward to welcoming the app in America under new ownership,” said Republican Rep. John Moolenaar of Michigan, chairman of the House Select Committee on China. Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, who co-authored the law, said “it's time for ByteDance to accept” the law. To assuage concerns about the company’s owners, TikTok says it has invested more than $2 billion to bolster protections around U.S. user data. The company has also argued the government’s broader concerns could have been resolved in a draft agreement it provided the Biden administration more than two years ago during talks between the two sides. It has blamed the government for walking away from further negotiations on the agreement, which the Justice Department argues is insufficient. Attorneys for the two companies have claimed it’s impossible to divest the platform commercially and technologically. They also say any sale of TikTok without the coveted algorithm - the platform’s secret sauce that Chinese authorities would likely block under any divesture plan - would turn the U.S. version of TikTok into an island disconnected from other global content. Still, some investors, including Trump’s former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and billionaire Frank McCourt, have expressed interest in purchasing the platform. Both men said earlier this year that they were launching a consortium to purchase TikTok’s U.S. business. This week, a spokesperson for McCourt’s Project Liberty initiative, which aims to protect online privacy, said unnamed participants in their bid have made informal commitments of more than $20 billion in capital.None
