The holiday season is a time to spread joy, and members of the Faith Church of Athens embraced that mission wholeheartedly. Together with the support of the Athens community, members of the congregation delivered over 225 individually wrapped gifts to residents at local nursing homes through the annual Silver Angels program, led by Brandy and Raymond Magee. Now in its fifth year, the Silver Angels initiative brought smiles and heartfelt gratitude to residents of several facilities. At Advanced Rehabilitation and Healthcare of Athens, church members handed out gifts while singing carols in the halls. “The smiles were heartwarming,” said Brandy. “Thanks to all who made this day very special for so many elderly that seem forgotten during this holiday season.” Another stop was South Place Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing, where volunteers witnessed the profound impact of their efforts. “Some of these sweet residents stole our hearts by the sheer joy they showed at the sight of an unexpected gift,” Brandy shared. “It really is hard to explain how much joy a simple little gift bag can bring to someone.” One resident proudly displayed a handmade Christmas card, saying it was the only card she had received during the holiday season. Athens High School teacher Julie Hill and her students in Child Development, Counseling and Mental Health, and Principles of Education classes prepared handmade Christmas cards for every nursing home resident in Athens. "We are so appreciative of the many collective hours it took to complete such a task! We love seeing this simple project involve and impact so many," the Magees shared. The festive spirit extended to the South Place lunchroom, where some volunteers joined in a lively karaoke concert. At Oak Wood Assisted Living, church members were met with gratitude from both residents and staff. Oak Wood shared their appreciation on social media, writing, “Thank you to Silver Angels for making sure all of our angels were picked for Christmas this year!” Volunteers called the experience an “overflow of blessings.” The program also stopped at Park Highland Nursing Home. Although they missed the Christmas party, the residents’ tree was “loaded with gift bags that were going to be distributed,” Brandy shared. The success of this year’s Silver Angels program was made possible through the generosity and support of countless individuals, organizations, and businesses. Faith Church of Athens extends heartfelt gratitude to Rev. Darren and Melinda Miller, Leonard Smith, Reba and Mitch Davis, Sherri McCool, Shelly Henry, Nancy McLaughlin, Mandie Weber, Stacie Hollis, Hope Sparks, Melissa Jenkins and the team at Loft 175, Donna Wallace, Karen Russell, Brandy Couey, and Magnolia Dental in Mabank. Each of these contributors played a vital role in making the program a success, whether through donations, time, or resources. Their dedication and generosity ensured that every recipient felt the love and care of their community this Christmas season. The Pastor of Faith Church said, “I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the distribution of the Silver Angels bags! It was a great blessing to see their eyes light up when they received their bag. It was an honor to be part of such an awesome ministry. Special thanks to Brandy and Raymond for all your hard work putting this together and to all who gave to make it possible! Merry Christmas, everyone!” Through the efforts of Faith Church members, the Silver Angels program brought not just gifts, but joy, connection, and the spirit of Christmas to those who might otherwise feel forgotten. Brandy summed it up perfectly: “This is exactly why we do it! Thank you for helping us make it happen!”The large mysterious drones reported flying over parts of New Jersey in recent weeks appear to avoid detection by traditional methods such as helicopter and radio, according to a state lawmaker briefed Wednesday by the Department of Homeland Security. In a post on the social media platform X, Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia described the drones as up to 6 feet in diameter and sometimes traveling with their lights switched off. The Morris County Republican was among several state and local lawmakers who met with state police and Homeland Security officials to discuss the spate of sightings that range from the New York City area through New Jersey and westward into parts of Pennsylvania, including over Philadelphia. The devices do not appear to be The dronees wereffffflown by hobbyists, Fantasia wrote. Dozens of mysterious nighttime flights started last month and have raised growing concern among residents and officials. Part of the worry stems from the flying objects initially being spotted near the Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research and manufacturing facility; and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. Drones are legal in New Jersey for recreational and commercial use, but they are subject to local and Federal Aviation Administration regulations and flight restrictions. Operators must be FAA certified. Most, but not all, of the drones spotted in New Jersey were larger than those typically used by hobbyists. The number of sightings has increased in recent days, though officials say many of the objects seen may have been planes rather than drones. It’s also possible that a single drone has been reported more than once. Gov. Phil Murphy and law enforcement officials have stressed that the drones don’t appear to threaten public safety. The FBI has been investigating and has asked residents to share any videos, photos or other information they may have. Two Republican Jersey Shore-area congressmen, U.S. Reps. Chris Smith and Jeff Van Drew, have called on the military to shoot down the drones. Smith said a Coast Guard commanding officer briefed him on an incident over the weekend in which a dozen drones followed a motorized Coast Guard lifeboat “in close pursuit” near Barnegat Light and Island Beach State Park in Ocean County. Coast Guard Lt. Luke Pinneo told The Associated Press Wednesday “that multiple low-altitude aircraft were observed in vicinity of one of our vessels near Island Beach State Park.” The aircraft weren't perceived as an immediate threat and didn't disrupt operations, Pinneo said. The Coast Guard is assisting the FBI and state agencies in investigating. In a letter to U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Smith called for military help dealing with the drones, noting that Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has the capability "to identify and take down unauthorized unmanned aerial systems.” However, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh told reporters Wednesday that “our initial assessment here is that these are not drones or activities coming from a foreign entity or adversary.” Many municipal lawmakers have called for more restrictions on who is entitled to fly the unmanned devices. At least one state lawmaker proposed a temporary ban on drone flights in the state. “This is something we’re taking deadly seriously. I don’t blame people for being frustrated," Murphy said earlier this week. A spokesman for the Democratic governor said he did not attend Wednesday's meeting. Republican Assemblyman Erik Peterson, whose district includes parts of the state where the drones have been reported, said he also attended Wednesday's meeting at a state police facility in West Trenton. The session lasted for about 90 minutes. Peterson said DHS officials were generous with their time, but appeared dismissive of some concerns, saying not all the sightings reported have been confirmed to involve drones. So who or what is behind the flying objects? Where are they coming from? What are they doing? “My understanding is they have no clue,” Peterson said. A message seeking comment was left with the Department of Homeland Security. Most of the drones have been spotted along coastal areas and some were recently reported flying over a large reservoir in Clinton. Sightings also have been reported in neighboring states. James Edwards, of Succasunna, New Jersey, said he has seen a few drones flying over his neighborhood since last month. “It raises concern mainly because there's so much that's unknown,” Edwards said Wednesday. “There are lots of people spouting off about various conspiracies that they believe are in play here, but that only adds fuel to the fire unnecessarily. We need to wait and see what is really happening here, not let fear of the unknown overtake us." —— AP reporters Mike Catalini in Morrisville, Pennsylvania; and Wayne Parry in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, contributed to this report.Anthony Albanese has been accused of responding “too slow” to a surge in anti-Semitism after yet another incident in Sydney. A crime scene was established in the east Sydney suburb of Woollahra after “Kill Israiel” was scrawled onto a wall behind a torched car in the early hours of Wednesday. Another car and two buildings were also vandalised, authorities said. The second high profile anti-Semitic incident in a major Australian city in less than a week, senior Coalition MP Sussan Ley said she wanted “to see strong leadership from the Prime Minister”. “This is not a peaceful protest. This is thugs and hooligans going to where Jewish people live, to their homes, and conducting these sort of awful, awful acts of intimidation, harassment, and who knows what next,” she told Sky News. “I want to see arrests, I want to see action, I want to see strong leadership from the Prime Minister, and I’m not sure that we’re seeing that now.” Mr Albanese and several senior ministers have condemned the latest incident in Sydney. “Overwhelmingly, Australians are respectful people,” he told the ABC. “Australians want to live peacefully, side by side, and Australians reject this abhorrent criminal behaviour.” Mr Albanese said the incident was “not a political act”, in that it would “not change anything that is occurring in the Middle East”. “This is an attack against their fellow Australians,” he said. Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has pledged that those behind the incident in Woollahra “will face the full force of the law”. “This latest attack is an abhorrent attempt to intimidate our Jewish community, but it will not be successful,” Mr Burke said in a statement. “Officers from Operation Avalite will brief the government this morning. Home Affairs officials are engaging with NSW police. “We will continue to stand with the Jewish community against hatred and violence which has no place in our country. Those responsible for this will face the full force of the law and the condemnation of our community.” The Albanese government on Monday announced Operation Avalite, a special taskforce to tackle anti-Semitic attacks after a synagogue in Melbourne was firebombed last week. But many in the Jewish community have questioned why it took so long for any concrete action. On Tuesday, security rushed Mr Albanese into his car after he was heckled while visiting the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne. The incident overnight in Woollahra, which has a high Jewish population, is the second such incident in the suburb in less than a month. In late November, several buildings were vandalised with anti-Semitic graffiti and a car set alight. Two men have been charged in relation to that incident.

, Schneider National and its unmistakable orange semi trucks have thrown down the gauntlet – adding more than 5 million miles to its BEV tally and crossing the 6 million electric mile mark! The company says this latest all-electric milestone means Schneider has cut more than 20 million pounds of harmful carbon emissions. A total it says is equivalent to removing more than 2,100 gas-powered passenger cars from the road. “Reaching 6 million zero-emission miles is a testament to our steadfast dedication to sustainability and innovation,” said Schneider President and CEO, Mark Rourke. “Leading the way in adopting electric vehicle technology not only benefits the environment but also serves as an example of the broad service capabilities and flexibility we can offer to customers.” Schneider operates one of the largest fleets of Freightliner eCascadia electric semi trucks in the country, with fully 92 of the BEVs deployed (so far). The trucks have been operating in and around the ports of Southern California, where they have significantly reduced emissions and contributed to cleaner air quality while reliably transporting freight and saving SNDR money. “Schneider is a great example of the kind of forward-thinking entrepreneurship our industry needs,” says David Carson, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing at DTNA. “They’ve achieved over 6 million zero emission miles, which is a reminder for us all to keep working on overcoming challenges together on the path to zero emissions. At DTNA, we’re committed to the shift to zero emissions, alongside pioneers like Schneider, who are showing us what’s possible.” Fifty of Schneider’ 92 eCascadias were funded by JETSI – a California-wide initiative working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Of the remaining 42 five are jointly funded by the EPA’s FY18 Targeted Airshed Grant, seven are funded by the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust, and 30 are funded by California’s HVIP incentive program. Schneider is among the many global fleets that are proving the reliability and efficacy of battery-electric semi trucks every day, racking up millions of miles faster than many of the nay-sayers thought would be possible. The only real question facing the world of electric trucking now is whether the legacy brands like and have established . : Schneider, via . and subscribe to the . Emperor penguin released at sea 20 days after waddling onto Australian beach MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — The only emperor penguin known to have swum from Antarctica to Australia has been released at sea 20 days after he waddled ashore on a popular tourist beach. The adult male was found on Nov. 1 on sand dunes in temperate southwest Australia about 2,200 miles north of the Antarctic coast. He was released Wednesday from a boat that traveled several hours from Western Australia state's most southerly city of Albany. His caregiver Carol Biddulph wasn't sure at first if the penguin would live. She said a mirror was important to his rehabilitation because they provide a sense of company. Biddulph said: “They’re social birds and he stands next to the mirror most of the time.”
Since the chaos of election season has ended, and we’ve stopped receiving daily text messages asking us to contribute a few dollars to our favorite candidate’s legal expense fund or celebrity endorsement financing plan, we can turn our attention to more important matters, like gravy. Seriously, though, I’ve read several articles recently warning that Americans should avoid discussing political topics during holiday gatherings in order to avoid conflict, hurt feelings and damaged sheetrock. The problem is that arguing is a cherished pastime in some families, and a full-contact sport in others. To keep the tradition of passionate family debating alive, below are a few controversial topics that should keep holiday gatherings lively without inciting fisticuffs or sacrificing the structural integrity of dining rooms. First, and speaking of gravy, there is the age-old question of whether gravy should or should not include giblets. “What are giblets?” you may ask. No one really knows, but it’s a funny word to say, and it’s probably best not to ask too many questions. Apparently, turkeys and chickens grow their giblets inside a small plastic pouch that can only be retrieved by giving the bird a thorough cavity search (preferably once the bird is deceased). This procedure should only be performed by a trained professional who is sworn to secrecy regarding the precise identity of the giblets–in order to protect the privacy of the poultry. Next is the contentious issue of cranberry sauce. The question usually comes down to berries or no berries. In other words, should the cranberry sauce come out of the can looking like a murder scene or a giant earthworm segment? I suppose there are skilled artisans in remote areas of the northern tundra who don’t have enough to do, so they make their own cranberry sauce. I don’t know how it’s done, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t involve a cavity search. I realize I’ve already mentioned this too many times for most family publications, but speaking of cavity searches, there is the important debate about dressing or stuffing. My family has always enjoyed dressing with our holiday meals, and I usually ingest enough of it to sicken a large standard donkey. I’ve never really understood why it’s called “dressing,” although I do love it enough to wear a feed bag full of it in public — on a date with my wife, even. As for stuffing, the name makes perfect sense. (See cavity searches.) And since you’re in there, anyway, spelunking for the giblet bag, I suppose you might as well cram that space full of something delicious that you can extract after cooking — hopefully hidden from the innocent gaze of the kids’ table. Although there are plenty of other topics to debate during family holiday gatherings, like whether to top your pie with aerosol whipped cream or spray the entire can directly into your mouth, the aforementioned issues should get you off to a good start. And if these aren’t enough, you can always argue over who gets to do the poultry cavity search.

The comprehensive household survey by the Telangana government achieved a key milestone on Friday (November 22, 2024) with the enumeration of one crore families. The survey, which began on November 6 , completed the enumeration of one crore families in 16 days, shattering the myth that the exercise may not be completed soon, given the massive details being collected by the government. Out of 33 districts, the survey covered nearly all the families in eight districts. The survey is cent percent in Mulugu and Jangaon districts while Nalgonda and Medak districts recorded 99.9% followed by Jagtial and Gadwal districts that registered 99.1%. The other district that covered more than 98% include Yadadri Bhongir (98.8%), Kamareddy (98.50%), Asifabad and Manchiryal (98%), Nizamabad (97.9%) and Sircilla (97.8%). Officials revealed that the survey had been completed in all these districts except for those living in other areas and those whose houses had been found locked. Going by the statistics people in the rural areas seem to have responded positively to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s appeal that caste survey will be useful for social empowerment and the upliftment of BC, SC, ST and weaker sections in the future. More than one lakh employees, including enumerators, supervisors, data entry operators are participating in the exercise at various stages. A total of 87,807 enumerators are deputed to carry out the survey with 47,561 sent to rural areas. In the first phase, the government conducted enumeration of houses from November 6 to 8 and found a total of 1,16,14,349 families in the Sstate. The second phase began on November 9 with the enumerators starting the door-to-door survey to collect the details. The exercise revealed that out of a total of 1,16,14,349 families, 64,41,183 are living in rural areas and 51,73,166 in urban areas. However, the survey is progressing slowly in Greater Hyderabad, Medchal and Sangareddy districts due to the high density of population, according to officials.
