Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said she was “prepared to take further action” unless the embattled Corporation cleaned up its act. She also said that “no options are off the table” in a looming review into the BBC licence fee . The national broadcaster has been rocked by several high-profile rows this year, including Huw Edwards pleading guilty to making indecent images of children . And this month Masterchef presenter Gregg Wallace has been forced to step back amid an investigation into alleged inappropriate behaviour. Ms Nandy yesterday told MPs: “I have spoken with the BBC in recent weeks about the Gregg Wallace allegations. Read More on Politics “I am really clear that we're seeing too many of these cultures of silence and issues being swept under the rug. "People who cannot advance through the current complaint system because it would have an impact on their career, potentially ending their career. "And I am clear that people need to be heard, action has to be taken, and perpetrators have to be held to account." The BBC said it will not "tolerate behaviour that falls below the standards we expect" and will continue to champion "a culture that is kind, inclusive and respectful". Most read in The Sun Wallace’s lawyers have denied "he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature". Ms Nandy also said the BBC’s funding will be part of the charter review next year. Asked about the viability of the telly tax, she said: “No options are off the table, both in terms of the BBC operational structure and funding models." She added: "We're not in the business of reform for reform's sake, but I think, in the early discussions I've had with the BBC, its clear there are limits on the amount of money that the BBC can raise from commercial sources, particularly with its obligations as a public service broadcaster, which we believe are incredibly important. "So we are going to have to think in the broadest sense about the options around funding and structure."

The jury on Friday awarded Nikita Hand in her lawsuit that claimed McGregor “brutally raped and battered” her in 2018. The lawsuit says the assault left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor testified that he never forced her to do anything and that Hand fabricated her allegations after the two had consensual sex. McGregor says he will appeal the verdict. INDIANAPOLIS — It was just a 10-yard completion, easy to overlook in the wake of a record-setting rushing day and easy to dismiss as one of just 11 pass attempts throughout the Indianapolis Colts’ 38-30 victory Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. But Anthony Richardson’s third-and-8 pass to wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. just after the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter was pivotal to holding off the visitors’ late rally. If the Colts were forced to punt in that situation, a defense that had allowed touchdowns on three consecutive drives — of 70, 55 and 71 yards — would be back on the field with tremendous pressure to prevent the game going to overtime. Richardson was cold and out of rhythm. He’d been sacked on his most recent pass attempt — on third-and-9 with 6:51 remaining — and he hadn’t gotten a pass off since throwing an incompletion intended for wide receiver Josh Downs at the 11:20 mark. With the dual-threat quarterback and running back Jonathan Taylor combining for 270 of Indianapolis’ single-game franchise-record 335 rushing yards, Richardson had not completed a pass since the 8:33 mark of the third quarter, and he was just 1-for-2 in the second half. Still, he was calm and composed on the crucial third down — hitting Pittman on a simple out pattern to move the chains and keep the clock moving. When the Colts finally did punt the ball back to Tennessee, there were only three seconds remaining for the Titans to work with, It was a forgettable play in the grand scheme of the game, but it was also the most recent evidence of the 22-year-old quarterback’s ability to raise his level of play in the clutch. He’s 3-2 as a starter since taking the role back from veteran Joe Flacco, and the other two victories featured game-winning touchdown drives in the fourth quarter. “I think that’s a special trait — obviously as a young player — that he doesn’t flinch in those times, to lead those comebacks,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen said. “Obviously, the (New York) Jets, the New England (Patriots) game, I mean, those are big-time drives to go win games. “You want that out of young players, especially (when) you see the veteran guys do it around the league all the time, but to do it as a young player speaks volumes of the person that he is.” Despite Richardson’s up-and-down season, Indianapolis has maintained steadfast belief in his potential. Even when he was benched for Flacco, the organization repeatedly stated it was not giving up on the quarterback as its future leader. There’s still plenty of work to be done. Richardon has completed just 47.7% of his passes, and he’s thrown 12 interceptions in 11 starts. His rushing ability again was evident Sunday, and he’s set franchise single-season records for a quarterback with 499 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. And he has proven his big-play ability with a league-leading 14.4 yards per completion. The Colts still believe improved consistency will come with increased reps, and they hold out hope the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft can still become the long-term answer at the game’s most important position. For now, Richardson’s late-game heroics offer the most compelling argument in his favor. “I think it’s just me just playing all the way until the clock hits zero,” Richardson said of his mindset. “I never think about fourth quarter moments or anything like that. I just try to play until the game’s over. And it just happens sometimes that most of it happens in the fourth quarter. So I just try to play through the whistle and just play through the whole game.” After rushing for 218 yards and three touchdowns against the Titans – both the second-highest single-game totals of his career – Taylor has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. It was a major bounce-back performance after Taylor’s unforced fumble just short of the goal line cost the Colts dearly in a pivotal loss against the Denver Broncos a week prior. “It’s always exciting to see that dude just do what he does,” Richardson said. “It’s fascinating, honestly, just to see him hit a gap and just take it to the house. It’s just amazing, especially thinking about what happened in the Denver game. It honestly like wiped my mind. I wasn’t even thinking about it until people were talking about him coming back and having the game he did. “It’s like ‘OK, that’s the type of player he is, the type of person he is.’ He always wants to do better for the team and for himself. And just to see him do that and get what he did on Sunday is just a blessing.” The Colts officially signed right guard Mark Glowinski to the 53-man roster Tuesday after he’d been called up for game day in each of the past three weeks. Guard Antonio Mafi was re-signed to the practice squad after being released from the 53-man roster Monday.
Title: Why the Flow Magic of Ancient Puppetry Theater Fails - Homogenization and Aesthetic FatigueFinancing from Iconiq Capital and others restores Wealthsimple’s valuation to its prior high-water mark set at the peak of the pandemic tech frenzy in spring 2021. Eric Akaoka/The Globe and Mail Wealthsimple Technologies Inc. is capping off the best year since its founding a decade ago with a secondary financing valuing the online investment manager at $5-billion, making it one of Canada’s most highly valued private technology companies. San Francisco’s Iconiq Capital, the family office for tech luminaries including Mark Zuckerberg, Sheryl Sandberg, Jack Dorsey and Chamath Palihapitiya, plus KKR & Co. co-founder Henry Kravis and James Murdoch, has bought about $100-million of stock from past and present employees. Wealthsimple said an existing investor led the deal but declined to identify the buyer other than to say it wasn’t Power Corp. of Canada or its affiliates – which own 43.6 per cent combined of its fully diluted equity – or any Canadian entity. The identity was confirmed by three sources familiar with the matter. The Globe is not identifying them as they are not authorized to discuss the deal. The financing restores Wealthsimple’s valuation to its prior high-water mark set in a $750-million financing at the peak of the pandemic tech frenzy in spring 2021. That deal saw Power Corp. of Canada and affiliated entities sell $500-million worth of their holdings. More than a dozen VC firms, including Iconiq, backed the 2021 deal alongside Canadian celebrities Drake, Michael J. Fox, Ryan Reynolds and several sports stars. The financing comes amid a period of torrid expansion by Wealthsimple. Assets under administration (AUA) now exceed $58-billion, up $6-billion since Sept. 30 and nearly double the $31-billion level last Dec. 31. The Generation Z-focused financial services company, which positions itself as a challenger to Canadian banks, had 2.6-million investment and banking clients on Sept. 30 , up 16 per cent from a year earlier. Wealthsimple started as a “robo-adviser” offering automated wealth management services, later expanding to offer online digital stock-trading, a high-interest savings account, cryptocurrency trading, tax filing services and mortgage products. The company is testing new offerings including a Visa credit card, margin accounts and cross-border payment services. The average age of its clients has increased to the mid-30s, while the number of clients with $500,000 or more in assets with Wealthsimple has quadrupled in the past year. CEO Mike Katchen said in an interview Wealthsimple’s recent growth spurt has come across all asset classes as markets have returned to life this year. He added that November was shaping up to be a record month, with an expected $3-billion in new client deposits. IGM Financial Inc. CEO James O’Sullivan, whose Power-controlled company is Wealthsimple’s biggest investor, described its growth in May as “ballistic.” Wealthsimple also recently added two Silicon Valley veterans to its senior ranks: chief financial officer Jeff Gowen, former head of treasury at Stripe, Inc. and before that an investment banker with Goldman Sachs, and chief information security officer Justin Grudzien, who held that role at DoorDash Inc. The surge in Wealthsimple’s business comes two years after its growth stalled as interest rates spiked and markets swooned, prompting Power to cut the value of its consolidating stake to $900-million as of June 2022 from $2.1-billion six months earlier. But as Wealthsimple’s business has expanded sharply since late 2023, Power has written its holdings back up in each of the last four quarters. Power valued its consolidated stake at $2.2-billion on Sept. 30, reflecting the pricing of the impending secondary deal. Mr. Katchen said Wealthsimple is bigger “and a much higher quality business than we were” in 2021. The election of Donald Trump in the U.S. has “made people even more excited and interested in investing,” and fuelled expansion, he said. “We’re firing on all cylinders.” Mr. Katchen said Wealthsimple “has no pressure for liquidity” and the secondary deal, its first since the spring 2021 financing, “gives employees some chance to monetize” though most of its 1,000 people didn’t participate. The deal is “a great vote of confidence from someone who knows the business intimately and was willing to put a mark on it showing we’re doing well and that there’s a tremendous amount of momentum,” he said. “Very few companies have achieved or surpassed where they were in the frothy market of 2021.” Many private-capital-backed tech companies, including B.C.-based Clio , have done secondary transactions in recent quarters in which they issue little or no new equity and buyers pick up shares from employees or early investors. Secondaries don’t dilute non-participating shareholders and give flush private capital firms a chance to put cash to work. Secondaries by private tech companies were once regarded negatively as a sign insiders lacked conviction. But given the three-year drought in initial public offerings and dearth of mergers and acquisitions, they have grown in popularity as a way for holders awaiting exit transactions to realize cash for their stock and lock in financial certainty. With a report from Clare O’Hara.

TBT Ballers SoCal: Elevating Youth Baseball to New Heights in Southern CaliforniaThe TV presenter and journalist defied doctors’ orders by joining thousands of farmers in London on Tuesday to protest against agricultural inheritance tax changes. The 64-year-old, who fronts Prime Video’s Clarkson’s Farm, which documents the trials of farming on his land in Oxfordshire, wrote in a post on the Top Gear website in 2010: “I have bought a farm. There are many sensible reasons for this: Land is a better investment than any bank can offer. The government doesn’t get any of my money when I die. And the price of the food that I grow can only go up.” Clarkson also told the Times in 2021 that avoiding inheritance tax was “the critical thing” in his decision to buy land. Addressing the claim in a new interview with The Times, the former Top Gear presenter said: “I never did admit why I really bought it.” The fan of game bird shooting added: “I wanted to have a shoot – I was very naive. I just thought it would be a better PR story if I said I bought it to avoid paying tax.” Clarkson was among the thousands who took to the streets this week to protest over the changes in the recent Budget to impose inheritance tax on farms worth more than £1 million and he addressed the crowds at the march in central London. He told the newspaper he is not happy to be the public face of the movement, saying: “It should be led by farmers.” The presenter said he does not consider himself a farmer because there are “so many basic jobs” which he cannot do, but he feels his role is to “report on farming”. Earlier this month, it was confirmed Clarkson’s Farm, which has attracted huge attention to his Diddly Squat farm shop, had been renewed for a fifth series. Asked whether the issue behind the tax protest is that rural poverty is hidden, Clarkson agreed and said his programme was not helping to address the situation. “One of the problems we have on the show is we’re not showing the poverty either, because obviously on Diddly Squat there isn’t any poverty”, he said. “But trust me, there is absolute poverty. I’m surrounded by farmers. I’m not going out for dinner with James Dyson. “It’s people with 200 acres, 400 acres. Way past Rachel Reeves’s threshold. They are f*****.” The newspaper columnist also presents Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? on ITV. The Grand Tour, his motoring show with former Top Gear colleagues Richard Hammond and James May, ended in September. Discussing whether he might move into politics, Clarkson said: “I’d be a terrible political leader, hopeless. “I’m a journalist at heart, I prefer throwing rocks at people than having them thrown at me.” However, he said he would be “100% behind any escalation” after the farmers’ march. Clarkson revealed last month he had undergone a heart procedure to have stents fitted after experiencing a “sudden deterioration” in his health which brought on symptoms of being “clammy”, a “tightness” in his chest and “pins and needles” in his left arm. He said in a Sunday Times column that one of his arteries was “completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way” and doctors said he was perhaps “days away” from becoming very ill. Asked if he is thinking about retiring, the Doncaster-born celebrity said: “Probably not. It depends when you die, I always think. “You’d be surprised, us Northerners are made of strong stuff.”
