1. A WD-40 pen (A pen! Genius!) to enjoy the squeak-quieting, hinge-lubricating, rust-preventing powers that you know and love from traditional WD-40 but in an easy-to-maneuver precise pen tip. Promising review: "I love WD-40 products and use them for everything. I spray on shovels to keep dirt or snow from sticking, spray around windows and thresholds to deter bugs, clean Sharpies off wood and walls, and, of course, stop squeaky doors. These small direct-point application pens are great. Keep one in the glove box, my kitchen 'junk' drawer, and the house toolbox." — BBP623 Get a three-pack from Amazon for $14.99 . 2. A ceiling fan carbon filter for grabbing dust, pollen, smoke, dander, and other allergens as the fan spins. It sticks to the fan blade and is unnoticeable — but you may notice the difference in the air! Promising review: "I wasn't sure what to expect when purchasing these, but now they are a staple in every room of our house. Within three days the air smelled more crisp and was easier to breathe in our home. So simple and effective!" — Haylee Marez "We have these on every ceiling fan in our house and have noticed such a difference since installing them! There is less dust on our furniture, and the general air quality in our rooms has improved. There is no longer dust build-up on our fan blades. Super easy to install!" — Hannah McClam Get a three-pack from Amazon for $21.99 . 3. A moisturizing saline gel that'll probably come in handy if you're a drippy, sneezy mess thanks to allergies (me right now!) and are constantly blowing your nose, which has led to some not-infrequent nosebleeds (so fun!). Reviewers who use CPAP machines swear by this stuff, as do airplane travelers (dry airplane air!). Promising review: "So thankful for this gel. Was having nosebleeds daily with the dry air and this stopped them! It doesn’t make your nose feel sticky, and it’s not really smelly. Easy to use. It was everything I needed." — Danica Get it from Amazon for $3.62 . 4. A vacuum LED light because it'll show you all the pet hairs, spilled kibble, human crumbs, kitty litter crystals, and dust bunnies that you probably didn't even notice were lurking on your "clean" floors. Promising review: "I love being able to see all the dog hair on the floor. Makes vacuuming so satisfying." — Andrea H. Get it from Amazon for $19.99 . 5. A pet hair roller if you love your fur babies but hate how much they shed...on everything. Roll it over your couch, bed, favorite blanket, you name it, and watch it lift the fur away. See, we can own nice things!! Promising review: "Where has this been all my cat-loving life? Sticky rollers work fine for clothes, but this is the only product that has ever COMPLETELY removed all the cat hair from my bed. I have a long-haired 20-pound tabby, and if you run your hands up his back a few times and fling the hair everywhere, it looks like it's snowing — he never stops shedding no matter what I do. After using the ChomChom, I can wear a black dress and roll around on my bed without getting a single hair on me. It's absolutely amazing. Everyone is getting one for Christmas, even if they don't have a pet. I don't care, it's THAT good. " — DH Get it from Amazon for $23.99+ (available in three colors). 6. A genius humidifier tank cleaner so you can go longer between washes. Hate refilling the water tank only to realize it's coated with a thin layer of slime and sludge? Same! This fish-shaped cartridge swims around the water tank, inhibiting the growth of buildup for up to 30 days. Promising review: "Just drop this in your humidifier and it keeps the water pretty darn mildew and mold free. Super easy to use, no smell, and safe. I have already repurchased and given a few to other people as well." — Kristine Get it from Amazon for $5.98 . 7. A mascara remover you apply just like mascara to lift even the most stubborn waterproof formulas with ease. This stuff is MAGICAL. I have stick-straight Asian lashes that refuse to hold a curl with wetter mascara formulas. As a result, I have to use waterproof mascara, which is a total pain to remove at night. Instead of rubbing my eyes raw with makeup removers that burn, I apply this like mascara, let it sit for a few minutes, and my waterproof mascara MELTS. Then I go in with a micellar water–soaked cotton pad, and my mascara is gone in 1–2 passes. Promising review: "I was skeptical because I have always struggled with removing waterproof mascara 100% on the first wash/wipe. I applied it to both my lashes and then immediately washed my face with my normal cleanser, and I felt nothing on my lashes! Like I never applied anything to them. I am still amazed and in shock by this magical formula and invention! Best creation ever! " — Chrisy Get it from Amazon for $14.99 . 8. A set of DEET-free mosquito-repelling bracelets you'll wanna keep in stock for every outdoorsy adventure. No more slathering yourself with sticky, stinky bug sprays! Check out a TikTok of the mosquito-repelling bracelets in action. Promising review: "I bought these for my Costa Rica trip and was not sure if they would work. I was very surprised. All six days in Costa Rica, which included hiking in the forest and other activities, I didn’t get bit. Not even once. Amazing and worth buying." — JbJ Get a 10-pack from Amazon for $9.99 . 9. A digital luggage scale that'll save your wallet from any overweight baggage fees. You'll also be spared the embarrassment of having to repack your bag in the middle of the airport. You can switch between pound and kilogram measurements. Promising review: " Works great, a must-have when flying. Very accurate scale. Easy to read with the light on it. It's a must if you have a wife like mine who loves to shop for clothes and fill up her suitcase along with mine, or if you want to stay under that 40 pounds and avoid paying the extra for overweight baggage fees. Easy to use, very accurate, well made, and a nice design. Very pleased. Saved me money." — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in four colors). 10. A Hydro Flask silicone boot because the whole house can hear when you set down your water bottle. This soft sleeve will help protect the bottom of your bottle and make it less slippery. And, of course, it will help prevent that awful banging sound. I have one for my Hydro Flask and love it! Promising review: "I was tired of hearing this heavy tumbler banging around, so I bought the boot, and it’s fantastic! No more loud placement on the table, silicone has some grip so not as slippery, and the color is super cute. May buy in more colors! **If you own a 32oz or 40oz tumbler of this shape, BUY A SMALL. Slightly snug pulling on, but it’s perfect and will not fall off." — Griffyyy Get it from Amazon for $7.95+ (available in two sizes and five colors). 11. An outlet extender if your bed, couch, cabinets, etc., can't lie flat against the wall because a pesky cord is in the way. This adapter has three outlets, so you can push your bed flat against the wall and still plug in the charger. Promising review: "I have been looking for a solution that would allow for a nightstand and also a dresser to be pushed up against a wall even with things plugged into the outlet behind that furniture. I FOUND IT. This wall outlet extender does exactly what it says it will do. I have a fan, clock radio, and watch charger plugged into it and can still move the nightstand right up against the wall. The light on the dresser no longer forces the dresser to be out a couple of inches; it, too, can be pushed right up against the wall, and the cord is not in danger of getting crushed and becoming a fire hazard. A game changer! I will be ordering a few more." — Lynda L. Get a two-pack from Amazon for $8.99+ (available in two styles and multi-packs). 12. A time-saving fruit and veggie divider so you can quickly prep a snack for your kiddo instead of spending what feels like ages quartering grapes by hand! Parents swear this thing is so convenient because it is easy enough and safe enough for their kiddos to use — and the little ones find it fun to use, too! Check out a TikTok of the fruit and veggie divider in action. Promising review : "If you have toddlers, get it — especially if you're on the fence. I needed something for grapes, blueberries, blackberries, and other small fruits and veggies we go through so much. My breakfast was getting cold long before I was done cutting fruit for two toddlers. Most cutters only do one grape or berry, but this one can do several grapes and a small handful of blueberries. We will definitely be getting a lot of use out of it in this house." — Kindle Customer Get it from Amazon for $13.06 . 13. A pack of double shower hooks to save you time when you wanna toss your dirty shower curtain liner in the washing machine. Now you don't have to remove the shower curtain too (and then inevitably hang it up backwards). And one certified genius even used the hooks as pant hangers . *mind blown* Promising review: "Wow. Game-changer. I have to change my shower curtain liner a lot because of a humid bathroom (yes, even with a fan on 😬). Though there are greater issues in the world, why wouldn't you want to save yourself some time with these hooks? Not having to take the curtain off each time I change the liner has really been more satisfying than I had anticipated. An added bonus is the rings themselves: The balls that were added hug the shower curtain rod, so they never pop off. Something I never knew I needed either. Love these!" — Jdbouchart Get a 12-pack from Amazon for $6.99+ (available in 12 finishes). 14. A dog paw scrubber for all-in-one paw cleaning that won't bother your pooch and certainly won't bother you now that your floors will be free of muddy paw prints. Promising review: "I wanted something that would clean my baby’s paws after our walks because I didn’t want germs or dirt coming into the house. It smells great, it works well, and I can see that the rubber part doesn’t bother my doggy! It’s super easy to use, and I use it to keep her paws clean and my house clean! 10/10, especially for the price point!" — Thia Get it from Amazon for $7.99 . 15. A pack of towel clips that'll prevent kids and pets from pulling down the towel. Or, maybe you have neither of those things, yet your hand and kitchen towels always end up on the ground. Promising review: "This clip is amazing. No more towels falling on the floor. It was becoming a routine thing since my cat thinks it's fun to pull the kitchen towels off the oven. Not now, bad kitty! Great product...wish I had bought one sooner!" — Joanna Get a three-pack from Amazon for $12.99 . 16. A mold and mildew remover gel because you can set it, forget it, and come back in a few hours to see grout that looks like new. I'm talking basically every speck of black mold is gone! *Cues up "Do You Believe in Magic"* Check out our Skyalrlife mold and mildew removal gel review for more deets! Promising review: "Wow! I would give this 10 stars if I could. We've had issues for a few years with the caulking behind the handle of our kitchen faucet turning black from mildew. We've scrubbed with what seems like a million different products with no luck. We were actually just talking about ripping out the caulking and doing a total replacement. But my husband saw this online the other day and decided to order it. Almost immediately, when he applied it, you could see it was starting to work. We left it on overnight, and the black is COMPLETELY GONE! It's incredible. It's 1,000% worth the (small) investment. Seriously — just buy this. It's amazing!!" — Nicole D. Get it from Amazon for $14.99 . 17. And a bleach-free, no-scrub weekly shower spray if your cleaning fantasies usually involve watching soap scum and shower grime buildup vanish without you ever having to wipe. Rinse it clean the next day, and you'll be amazed to see those hard water stains on your shower door are *poof* gone. Promising review: "We cannot BEGIN to tell you what a lifesaver this is! We have two old fiberglass tubs with vinyl shower enclosures that, no matter what amount of scrubbing we have done with everything from bleach to cleanser to vinegar and baking soda, would NOT come clean. After I took my shower last night, I sprayed down the tub and walls. Within minutes, all the built-up water deposits, dirt, and grime began to melt away in front of my eyes. I left it on overnight, and when I got up this morning, it did not look like the same tub and shower. This product is a godsend, especially for old folks like us who have difficulty getting down on our hands and knees and scrubbing anything. More importantly, it performs as advertised. We plan on using it as part of our weekly cleanup routine. This is truly an overnight sensation!" — Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $20.98 (available in two scents). 18. Some restorative wipes so you can rehab weatherworn front doors and shutters. These wipes are saturated with a solution that revives oxidized, faded, and sun-damaged surfaces, bumpers, siding, mailboxes, grills, garden tools, painted surfaces, and more. Promising review: "My metal barstools were left on the balcony all winter because of a surprise three-day blizzard. After being buried in snow all winter, I thought for sure I would have to throw them out when I saw them in the spring. Looking at them now after using the product, no one would suspect that they weren’t new ones! " — Mom@home Get five wipes from Amazon for $12.83 . 19. A creamy under-eye brightener to conceal evidence of a stressful work week, broken sleep, or just genetic dark circles. And the $6 price tag? *chef's kiss* Promising review: "I often fall for those cheap beauty recommendations, but they are often huge fails. Not this! I love this stuff. I don’t know how it works, but it’s amazing. I swipe an eye stick on, dab this stuff on, and I don’t look like I had five hours of sleep . Even on 'no makeup' days, I find myself still applying this. Love it!!" — Jill Fulton Get it from Amazon for $6 (available in two shades). 20. A Mac keyboard shortcut sticker for the person googling the force quit shortcut several times a week when their finicky computer shows the spinning wheel of death. (It's option + command + esc BTW!) Promising review: "Literally for any new or old Mac user, or even an user that’s used to any type of device other than Apple! Super helpful for how to copy and paste and do other minor tasks! I mainly use the mouse pad on the laptop so as my hands rub or grace over the sticker, it has never came off or never ripped off at any point in time. It is perfectly still down to the computer part, and I’ve had this for over a year now!! 10/10 recommend!🩷" — Reyn Get it from Amazon for $5.95 (available in eight styles). 21. A trio of sunglasses that'll protect your eyes from the sun and your wallet from your ability to lose absolutely everything you own. Three pairs of stylish sunnies for less than $20? Now, you don't need to fret when you settle into your Uber on the way to the hotel and realize you left your sunnies on the plane. Promising review: "These sunglasses are inexpensive and very durable. The polarization on them is very good and keeps it very dark on those super sunny days. The style looks good on most face shapes and I loved the colors. They are very lightweight and don’t irritate behind my ears. They definitely stand up to scratches and little baby hands grabbing at them constantly." — Amazon Customer Get them from Amazon for $19.99 (also available in 11 color combinations and packs of one and two). 22. A pack of carborundum sponges because these are the heavy hitters you'll want for stains and gunk that no other sponge is strong enough to handle. Promising review: "Nice and thin. You'll find so many more uses for these around the house than just getting stuff off the underside of cookware! I had hard, scaly water deposits on the glass surrounding our powder room faucet (one of those fancy, highfalutin modern-looking things). I've tried everything for 4 years to get this stuff off. One day, I thought, maybe I'll try my sponges. Took it all off super easily!!!! The faucet looks like new. My only rec is to spot-test your item first before using it because it will scratch certain surfaces if you scrub too aggressively (for example, it gets the burned-on, weird stuff off of the bottom of my fave Our Place pan, but I rubbed too hard in one spot and it took the color right off lol)." — Hoarder Get an eight-pack from Amazon for $7.99+ (available in two sponge thicknesses). 23. A pack of slow cooker liners if you have a lot of hungry people to feed. With the disposable liners, you can cook different recipes at the same time, reducing your overall cooking time *and* saving you from having to wash a huge stack of dishes. PS: They also come in handy with dishes going into a water bath (think cheesecakes, custards, and puddings). Promising review: "We constantly use our crockpot for easy meals. I'm a teacher and my husband is a firefighter, and it's just easy for our family of five. No real cleanup. I toss the bag in the trash after use and will just run a wet rag around the inside of the pot for good measure. Never have a problem with holes or burning." — Ashley Matthews Get a pack of six from Amazon for $3.48 . 24. A pack of towel bands so you don't have to spend your vacation chasing your towel down the beach or the pool deck after the wind blows it away. Reviewers say they take less space in your bag and do a better job of holding down your towel than bulky clips. Promising review: "Last-minute purchase for a trip to Jamaica. So happy I bought them. They always kept our towels on the chairs correctly. It was also easy to tell our chairs apart from others on the resort. Will definitely be recommending them to others." — RG Get a four-pack from Amazon for $11.99+ (available in four colors). 25. A bag of Liquid I.V. electrolyte drink mix to help you stay hydrated during a sweaty day in the sun or after a grueling workout. Bonus: It's Popsicle Firecracker flavored! FYI, depending on your situation, water may be enough to rehydrate you! Read more about electrolyte-enhanced drinks and hydration at Cleveland Clinic . Promising review: "Liquid I.V. does an amazing job hydrating. I purchase their product for 40+ employees who work in a construction-related industry. Hydration is so important while working in the hot Georgia Sun, and this product aids in this 100%. Now, let’s talk about the firecracker flavor! When we produced these for our crew, ages 23–60, all of their eyes lit up, and they were super excited . Many of them did not know this flavor existed. Quite honestly, I didn’t either until I came across them on Amazon. They all loved the flavor. In particular, the ones who were older kept telling me it tasted like their childhood. Seriously, who hasn’t stood outside an ice cream truck ordering the Firecracker Popsicle?" — Disney Diva Get a 16-pack from Amazon for $23.98 . 26. A portable door lock for added security in a hotel or Airbnb if you're traveling alone. It jams the door so it's impossible for an intruder to force themselves in using the door handle. Promising review: "I took my first solo trip and ordered this for extra security. Was super easy to install and didn't require me to leave my hotel door ajar for an extended amount of time for installation. My hotel door didn't even move when I tested out the lock. 10/10 recommend for a peace of mind. "— Haley Gribble Get it from Amazon for $14.99 . 27. " — Amber Get it from Foundry Prints Co. on Etsy for $5 (available in 9 styles and 11 colors). 28. An exfoliating towel because reviewers with keratosis pilaris (aka "chicken skin" and "strawberry skin") swear it helps clear up those pesky reddish bumps. Promising review: "Worth the hype. A pack of self-heating soothing foot masks if you just spent a long day on your feet and the dogs are barking. Check out a TikTok of the foot masks in action. BuzzFeed writer Emma Lord says, "I'm a long-ish distance runner and these were certainly an interesting experience for my feet! You slide them on and, after a few minutes, feel a tingling, mildly burning (in a good way) sensation. It doesn't quite numb your feet, but it relaxes them. I kept them on for 30 minutes and then toweled my feet off, and the tingling sensation slowly faded over the next 30 minutes. After that, my feet felt very refreshed and relaxed at a time of day when they're usually aching from all the miles I put in. The whole thing was a mess-free, easy process, and I will definitely keep them on hand for longer run days!" Promising review: "Very soothing. My husband and l used these on our European vacation, and they definitely felt good on our feet!" — KS2018 Get a set of three pairs from Amazon for $14.67 . Equities extended gains into a seventh straight session, with the S&P 500 notching its 52nd record this year. Shortly after oil futures settled, the U.S. said Israel and the Lebanese militant group had reached a deal. In late hours, Dell Technologies Inc. reported worse-than-expected sales, while HP Inc. and CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. gave lackluster outlooks. Wall Street shrugged off Trump’s plan to impose additional tariffs on the U.S.’s top trading partners. Microsoft Corp. drove software companies higher amid the group’s lower susceptibility to tariff risks. While automakers like General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. were hit due to their exposure to Mexico and China, a slide in equity volatility showed calm prevailed. “We still see tariffs as more strategizing and think the bark will be worse than the bite,” said Andrew Brenner at NatAlliance Securities. The S&P 500 rose 0.6%. The Nasdaq 100 climbed 0.6%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.3%. U.S. 10-year yields advanced two basis points to 4.30%. A dollar gauge gained 0.2%. The Mexican peso and Canadian dollar slid. To Dennis DeBusschere at 22V Research, Trump linking tariffs to drugs and immigration, rather than trade policy and economics signaled to investors that this announcement is a negotiating tactic, not a policy tool. “It was Trump ‘following through’ on his campaign promises — nothing more, nothing less — and my sense is that investors welcomed the move,” said Kenny Polcari at SlateStone Wealth. While stocks gained, the bond market response was mild following its second-biggest advance this year. At BMO Capital Markets, Ian Lyngen says that perhaps the muted response in Treasuries is because not only had the market already priced in a renewed emphasis on “tariffs as trade policy,” but it’s also an acknowledgment that increases in levies have a one-time impact on realized inflation. Stocks resumed their post-election upward trajectory last week and the S&P 500 has since posted moderate gains. Overall, turnover however has been relatively muted in both cash and futures trading ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday. The S&P 500 has surged more than 25% in 2024, on track for a second year of returns above 20% — a run that’s occurred just four times in the past 100 years. Deutsche Bank AG’s Bankim Chadha says the benchmark will hit 7,000 points by the end of next year, making him the most optimistic among Wall Street strategists predicting further gains for U.S. stocks. “We see steady robust momentum continuing into 2025, with earnings-per-share growth in the low double digits,” Chadha and his team wrote in a note dated Monday. Meantime, Bank of America Corp.’s Savita Subramanian is counting on another year of double-digit gains for the S&P 500 in 2025 — but says even better opportunities are present in individual stocks outside the benchmark. Her 2025 year-end target for the gauge is 6,666, and she recommends companies with healthy cash return prospects and tied to U.S. economy. The strategist is overweight financials, consumer discretionary, materials, real estate and utilities. At Goldman Sachs Group Inc., strategists are advising investors to keep their money in U.S. equities, but to adjust their holdings to mitigate the fact that close to half of the S&P 500’s rise in 2024 was due to the so-called “Magnificent Seven” big-tech stocks. The high concentration and valuation of the U.S. stock market is a reason to implement diversification across strategies and regions, says Goldman’s Peter Oppenheimer. He adds that a overweight on U.S. stocks still makes sense, however, given solid economic and earnings expectations for 2025. TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Shaquil Barrett is rejoining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs signed the two-time Super Bowl champion on Saturday, while also announcing safety Jordan Whitehead was activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s home game against the Carolina Panthers. Barrett spent five seasons with Tampa Bay from 2019 to 2023. He led the NFL with a franchise-record 19 1-2 sacks in his first year with the Bucs, then helped the team win its second Super Bowl title the following season. In all, Barrett started 70 games with Tampa Bay, amassing 45 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three interceptions. He was released last winter in a salary cap move, signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins in free agency, then abruptly announced his retirement on social media before the start of training camp in July. Barrett, who also won a Super Bowl during a four-season stint with the Denver Broncos, decided to unretire last month. He signed with the Bucs after clearing waivers earlier in the week. Whitehead has missed the past four games with a pectoral injury. His return comes of the heels of the Bucs placing safety Christian Izien on IR with a pectoral injury. On Saturday, the Bucs also activated rookie wide receiver Kameron Johnson from IR and elevated punter Jack Browning to the active roster from the practice squad. NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Libra, Weekly Horoscope, December 29 to January 04, 2025: Cautious financial management needed

1. Impatience “With the belief I have in the group of players here and the club it's just a matter of time. I'm not that patient. So I hope that time is against Plymouth.” Johannes Hoff Thorup’s pre-match words set the tone for another Carrow Road goal fest. A hat-trick for Borja Sainz. A first home goal for Ante Crnac in his fourth recent outing as a central striker. A first set piece goal of the campaign. More ‘Hoffball’ to gorge upon for those home fans, who will now be counting the hours until they can watch it all again when Luton head to Norfolk this coming weekend. After a testing pre-international swing, when City looked weary and riven by injuries and the debilitating suspension absence of Kenny McLean, this was the football that washed away Hull and Watford previously, and had many fans optimistically raising their sights. Such is the ebb and flow of Championship life. But with Marcelino Nunez and Josh Sargent to add to this mix, and a greater strength in depth to the resource on the bench with the likes of Ashley Barnes and Onel Hernandez back in the fold, it will surely feel like those dark clouds have disappeared. Only another injury blow for Liam Gibbs cast a shadow on a command performance against a compliant Plymouth. 2. Borja bangers A second consecutive Championship hat-trick of the season for Sainz. A staggering 16 goal contributions in 17 league games. Can there be a hotter attacker across Europe at present? Which means an inevitable swathe of speculation around the 23-year-old’s future for the lead up and duration of the January transfer window. Thorup pre-empted the line of questioning by stating he was not looking forward to answering the endless questions. Not that those who shape the direction of travel at Norwich will fret about that, given player trading remains a key part of the model. But Mark Attanasio himself made it clear at the recent annual meeting January would be a touch ‘too soon’ to look to cash in on their prized asset. Much in the same vein as James Maddison or Emi Buendia, or maybe even Gabby Sara to bring this more up-to-date, Norwich fans should simply sit back and enjoy the havoc Sainz is wreaking on the English second tier. Sporting director Ben Knapper revealed at that same recent shareholder gathering discussions are on-going with Sainz’s camp to explore all options for a player who is out of contract in 2026. What unfolds from here is largely crystal ball gazing. What is not in doubt is Sainz, Thorup and his coaching staff have found common ground that has elevated the attacker’s output to a stratospheric level. The big question after he had started this season in such fearsome form was whether he could maintain such a consistent seam of productivity? But if anything Sainz looks to be moving through the gears. 3. Free-flowing Emi More evidence, if needed, Emi Marcondes looks an astute piece of business on a free transfer. After an excellent, improvised close range finish at West Brom, plus the sharp interplay with Sainz for the second at the Hawthorns, more entries at Carrow Road in the credit column. Perhaps his role in the opener was a touch generous, given it was Victor Palsson’s errant pass after Marcondes and Crnac combined that set up Sainz. But there was nothing incidental about the timing and weight of ball rolled through for the Spaniard to double his tally in the 17th minute. Add to that his deep corner delivery that brought Shane Duffy a goal, and City their first this season from a set piece. Not forgetting the chip for Jack Stacey to advance and cut the ball back for Anis Ben Slimane. Oh, and the curling pass that Julio Pleguezuelo failed to deal with for Crnac’s to notch a sixth. Thorup spoke at his pre-match media about where he sees Marcondes in this Norwich side; operating in those advanced midfield areas where he can profit from the space afforded by defenders attracted to forward players. But you need the guile and the cleverness and game intelligence to find those pockets. Given this was a player with Premier League pedigree from previous postings at Brentford and Bournemouth you could argue the only element of gamble was how quickly the 29-year-old would pick up the pace, without a pre-season of fitness work. But he already looks like a staple in Thorup’s starting line up. 4. Good to talk, Ante Thorup’s style of football is pleasing on the eye. But the way he carries himself and his words are just as a compelling a watch. The City chief speaks with a refreshing honesty and a common sense that clearly will chime with large swatches of his fan base. His pre-match dissection of Crnac’s struggles in those previous auditions for the injured Josh Sargent down the middle cut to the heart of the matter. Yes, the 20-year-old is a young man in a new country trying to adapt to a very different footballing culture in the English Championship. But he also carries a weight of expectancy fuelled by the scale of the price tag that, in fairness, was not of his making. Yet Thorup met that external debate head on, and admitted Crnac needs to deliver more than the one goal he had previously mustered so far at Stoke. The Dane spoke about his positioning, the need to work on his first time finishing and to develop an aerial threat in keeping with his impressive physique. All wrapped around the unflinching conviction Crnac will become a key striker for this football club. With the game long since decided all that was missing to complete the rout was a goal for the young Croatian. Especially after he had struck a post and headed at Daniel Grimshaw in that opening first half barrage. It duly arrived in the 82nd minute, when he skipped past the stumbling Pleguezuelo before calmly rifling the ball past the Argyle keeper at his near post. The broad smile and the acclaim of his team mates said it all. Given how astute the Dane is, and how well he carries himself, those pre-match words will have been directed for Crnac’s own ears as much as the Norwich fan base.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — With his stellar America’s Cup career behind him, Jimmy Spithill introduced his new Red Bull Italy SailGP Team on Thursday in Dubai just ahead of the opening regatta of the global league’s fifth season. Spithill, the team’s CEO and founder, pulled a major coup by hiring his old America’s Cup crewmate and fellow Australian, wing trimmer Kyle Langford, from the Australian team that dominated SailGP for the first three seasons. Italy, SailGP's 12th team, sailed its foiling 50-foot catamaran for the first time Thursday. After practice racing on Friday, the opening regatta will be Saturday and Sunday. “It’s been definitely a big push,” Spithill said in a video interview with The Associated Press. “It’s all come up really quick. We’re almost there.” Spithill left the U.S. SailGP team in November after 2 1/2 seasons to focus on starting the Italian team and on sailing in this year’s America’s Cup. He was co-helmsman of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team, which was eliminated by INEOS Britannia in the challenger finals. Double Olympic gold medalist Ruggero Tita will helm the Italian team, while two-time bronze medalist and recent Women’s America’s Cup winner Giulia Fava will be the strategist and Italian national champion Andrea Tesei will be the flight controller. Alex Sinclair also followed Spithill, joining grinders Matteo Celon and Enrico Voltolini, who have extensive high-performance and America’s Cup experience. Spithill said his crew has “some absolute next-generation stars, from different backgrounds, Olympics, America’s Cup, and it’s just awesome having Kyle come in.” Spithill, 45, said he’ll be on the boat only if someone gets hurt or sick. “These young guys are too good at it,” he said. “The talent that’s coming through in Italy, I mean, the results do the talking.” More stars having been switching teams in SailGP, which was co-founded by tech billionaire Larry Ellison. Signing Langford is a big deal for the new team. Shortly before the 2013 America’s Cup on San Francisco Bay, Langford was promoted to Oracle’s race crew after wing trimmer Dirk de Ridder was suspended by an international jury. With Emirates Team New Zealand at match point at 8-1, Spithill skippered Oracle to eight straight wins in one of the greatest comebacks in sports to retain the Cup. “One thing that really attracted him was a chance to start out and really play a major role with the new team and especially the emerging talent,” Spithill said. “It would have been really easy for him to say, ‘You know what? I’m comfortable with the Aussies.’ But the fact that he’s stepped out of his comfort zone and he’s challenging himself as an athlete in this stage of his career is just massive.” While talented, the Italian crew will have the least experience together in the high-performance F50 catamaran. Spithill said Langford “is going to play a huge role in getting this team up to speed. I mean, the F50 is, without a doubt, probably the hardest boat to sail out there.” After sailing for Luna Rossa in three of his eight America’s Cup campaigns, Spithill has seen how passionate Italian fans are. “When you talk about an exciting market for the sport, I mean, it doesn’t get any better than Italy,” he said. “It has a huge following in Italy and they’ve got a real cultural attachment to the ocean and the sport itself.” Spithill said immediately after Luna Rossa’s loss in early October that it was time to step away from the America’s Cup. “The point is, we didn’t get the job done so I hold myself accountable for that. And I also am seeing firsthand that this next generation of talent coming through and I believe they deserve a shot, you know?” “I really think SailGP is the future of the sport. The whole regular season, the concept makes a lot of sense,” he said. Dubai is the first of 14 regattas. At season’s end, the top three crews will race in the $2 million, winner-take-all Grand Final. Also Thursday, Rolex was announced as SailGP's first title sponsor as part of a 10-year deal. ___ Bernie Wilson has covered sailing for The Associated Press since 1991. Dylan Robertson, The Canadian Press Dec 12, 2024 2:28 PM Share by Email Share on Facebook Share on X Share on LinkedIn Print Share via Text Message Ontario Premier Doug Ford speaks to members of the media at Queen's Park Legislature in Toronto on Thursday December 12, 2024. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Chris Young OTTAWA — Incoming U.S. president Donald Trump is brushing off Ontario's threat to restrict electricity exports in retaliation for sweeping tariffs on Canadian goods, as the province floats the idea of effectively barring sales of American alcohol. On Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford said Ontario is contemplating restricting electricity exports to Michigan, New York state and Minnesota if Trump follows through on a threat to impose a 25 per cent tariff on imports from Canada. "That's OK if he that does that. That's fine," Trump told American network CNBC when asked Thursday about Ford’s remarks on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. “The United States is subsidizing Canada and we shouldn’t have to do that," Trump added. "And we have a great relationship. I have so many friends in Canada, but we shouldn’t have to subsidize a country," he said, claiming this amounts to more than US$100 billion annually in unspecified subsidies. Meanwhile, an official in the Ford government says it's considering restricting the Liquor Control Board of Ontario from buying American-made alcohol. The province says the Crown agency is the largest purchaser of alcohol in the world. The province also says it could restrict exports of Canadian critical minerals required for electric-vehicle batteries, and bar American companies from provincial procurement. Ford doubled down Thursday on the idea of cutting off energy exports. The province says that in 2013, Ontario exported enough energy to power 1.5 million homes in those three states. "It's a last resort," Ford said. "We're sending a message to the U.S. (that if) you come and attack Ontario, you attack livelihoods of people in Ontario and Canadians, we are going to use every tool in our tool box to defend Ontarians and Canadians. Let’s hope it never comes to that." Ontario Energy Minister Stephen Lecce said the province would rather have co-operation with the U.S., but has mechanisms to "end power sale into the U.S. market" the day Trump takes office on Jan. 20. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith ruled out following suit. "Under no circumstances will Alberta agree to cut off oil and gas exports," she said. "Our approach is one of diplomacy, not threats." Michael Sabia, president and CEO of Hydro-Québec, said "it's not our current intention" to cut off Quebec's exports to Massachusetts or New York state, but he conceded it might be possible. "Our intention is to respect those contracts, both because they're legally binding, but also because it's part of, in our view, a sound relationship with the United States," he said. "It's a questionable instrument to use in a trade conflict." Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew would not directly say whether Manitoba would threaten to withhold hydroelectric exports. "We are preparing our list and starting to think through what those options should look like," he said. "I'm not going to make specific news today about items that we're looking at." Kinew added that some premiers felt retaliatory measures wouldn't work in a call Trudeau held Wednesday. Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey said "we have no interest in stopping" the export of energy to the U.S., adding that a trade war would hurt both countries. "We hope it is just bluster; we're preparing as if it is not," he said. Canada supplies more oil to the U.S. than any other country. About 60 per cent of U.S. crude oil imports are from Canada, and 85 per cent of U.S. electricity imports as well. Canada sold $170 billion worth of energy products last year to the U.S. It also has 34 critical minerals and metals the Pentagon is eager for. Trump has threatened to impose a 25 per cent tax on all products entering the United States from Canada and Mexico unless they stem the flow of migrants and drugs. Canadian officials have said it is unfair to lump Canada in with Mexico. U.S. customs agents seized 43 pounds of fentanyl at the Canadian border last fiscal year, compared with 21,100 pounds at the Mexican border. Canada since has promised more border security spending to address Trump's border concerns. Ford said that will include more border and police officers, as well as drones and sniffer dogs. US senator says mysterious drones spotted in New Jersey should be 'shot down, if necessary'Kyle Fellers, one of the Bow parents suing the school district over its handling of a silent protest against transgender girls in sports, described gender inclusion policies that infringe on female protections in educational settings as an effort to “appease a mentally ill cult.” “A cult in my mind is a group of individuals who quash any type of dissent on their beliefs,” Fellers said in court on Thursday. “I have the right to believe they are biological males.” His comments came during testimony in federal court in Concord Thursday in a case that centers on First Amendment rights to free speech and expression. Fellers, along with Anthony and Nicole Foote, and Eldon Rash, a family member of Fellers, filed the lawsuit after a protest at a Bow High School girls’ soccer game against Plymouth Regional High School on Sept 17. During the game, the group wore pink armbands marked with “XX,” a reference to the chromosomes associated with biological females, to signal their opposition to transgender athletes competing in girls’ sports. A transgender girl was playing for the Plymouth team that day. Bow police confronted the demonstrators and after the game, Fellers and Foote were issued no trespass orders, accusing them of violating district policies against bullying and harassment. Fellers in court said his concerns are limited to transgender participation in sports and do not extend to broader issues involving transgender individuals. Brian Cullen, the school district’s attorney, presented emails in court to argue that wearing the pink armbands was not just about supporting women’s sports but also carried an anti-transgender message. “No one other than the United States transgender mob supports boys playing on girls’ sports teams,” Foote wrote in another email, dated Aug. 23, to Jay Vogt, the Bow girls’ varsity soccer coach. Article continues after... Cross|Word Flipart Typeshift SpellTower Really Bad Chess While the no-trespass orders have been lifted, the group of Bow parents said they want to be able to wear the pink armbands at all school and athletic events — not just girls’ soccer games — to show support for women’s sports, without facing penalties from the Bow School District. The Bow School District maintains that wearing those armbands violates its policy and is considered harassment of transgender students, including transgender girls who participate in girls’ sports. “Wearing XX wristbands, we believe it violates school policy and doesn’t comply with Title IX,” said Cullen, an attorney for the school district. “The school’s position is if they come to games with the bands, we will ask them to take off.” Del Kolde, an attorney from the Institute of Free Speech Attorneys representing the parents pushed back. “They call what my clients did as harassment,” said Kolde “We don’t call it harassment. We call this legal passive speech.”

Delray Beach (US), Dec 29 (AP) A collision between a high-speed passenger train and a fire truck on Saturday morning in Florida left three firefighters and multiple train passengers injured, authorities said. The crash happened at 10:45 am in crowded downtown Delray Beach, multiple news outlets reported. The Brightline train was stopped on the tracks, its front destroyed about a block away from the Delray Beach Fire Rescue truck, its ladder ripped off and strewn in the grass several yards away, The Sun-Sentinel reported. The Delray Beach Fire Rescue said in a social media post that three Delray Beach firefighters were in stable condition at a local hospital. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue transported 12 people from the train to the hospital with minor injuries. Brightline officials didn't immediately respond to an email inquiry Saturday afternoon. A spokesperson for the National Transportation Safety Board said that agency is still gathering information about Saturday's Brightline crash and hasn't decided yet whether it will investigate. The NTSB is already investigating two crashes involving Brightline's high speed trains that killed three people at the same crossing early this year along the railroad's route between Miami and Orlando. More than 100 people have died after being hit by trains since Brightline began operations in July 2017 — giving the railroad the worst death rate in the nation. But most of those deaths have been either suicides, pedestrians who tried to run across the tracks ahead of the train or drivers who went around crossing gates instead of waiting for a train to pass. Brightline hasn't been found to be at fault in those previous deaths. Railroad safety has been a concern since a Norfolk Southern train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, in February 2023, spilling toxic chemicals that caught fire. Regulators urged the industry to improve safety and members of Congress proposed a package of reforms, but railroads haven't made many major changes to their operations and the bill has stalled.
