LeBron James is going to have to make room for the NFL. Wednesday's doubleheader on Netflix set records as the most-streamed NFL games in U.S. history, with numbers nearly five times more than the NBA. The Baltimore Ravens' 31-2 victory over the Houston Texans averaged 24.3 million while Kansas City's 29-10 win at Pittsburgh averaged 24.1 according to early viewer figures released by Nielsen on Thursday. Nielsen also said there were 65 million U.S. viewers who tuned in for at least one minute of one of the two games. The NBA's five-game slate averaged about 5.25 million viewers per game across ABC, ESPN and its platforms, according to the league and Nielsen. “I love the NFL,” James said in his televised postgame interview Wednesday night. “But Christmas is our day.” While the NBA's Christmas lineup has its best viewer numbers in five years, the NFL has made Christmas one of its tentpole events during the regular season, joining Kickoff Weekend and Thanksgiving. “The numbers speak for themselves and LeBron can have his own view, and I’m sure more people will look at that because of this," said Hans Schroeder, the executive vice president of NFL Media. "But, you know, we’re focused on the NFL and we’re thrilled with the results this year with the Christmas on Netflix and we’re excited to continue to build that over the next couple of years.” Both NFL games surpassed the previous mark of 23 million for last season’s AFC wild-card game between the Miami Dolphins and Chiefs on Peacock. Viewership for Ravens-Texans peaked with the Beyoncé Bowl. The 20-minute halftime performance averaged over 27 million viewers. The viewer figures include the audience on Netflix, mobile viewership on NFL+ and those who tuned in on CBS stations in Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Baltimore and Houston. Global ratings and final U.S. numbers are expected to be available on Tuesday. The NFL's Christmas numbers decreased from last season, but not at the rate that usually happens when something goes from broadcast to streaming. Last year’s three games averaged 28.68 million viewers. The early afternoon contest between the Las Vegas Raiders and Chiefs led the way, averaging 29.48 million on CBS. Once global and Netflix's first-party data is released, both Christmas games should surpass 30 million. The NBA's lineup saw an 84% rise over 2023. One reason for the increase is that all five games were on ABC, compared to two last year. The Los Angeles Lakers’ 115-113 victory over the Golden State Warriors — a game pitting Olympic teammates LeBron James and Stephen Curry — averaged 7.76 million viewers and peaked with about 8.32 million viewers toward the end of the contest, the league said. Those numbers represent the most-watched NBA regular season game in five years. The NBA said all five Christmas games on its schedule — San Antonio at New York in Victor Wembanyama's holiday debut, Minnesota at Dallas, Philadelphia at Boston, Denver at Phoenix and Lakers-Warriors — saw year-over-year viewership increases. Wednesday's numbers pushed NBA viewership for the season across ESPN platforms to up 4% over last season. The league also saw more than 500 million video views on its social media platforms Wednesday, a new record. For the NBA, those are all good signs amid cries that NBA viewership is hurting. “Ratings are down a bit at beginning of the season. But cable television viewership is down double digits so far this year versus last year," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said earlier this month. “You know, we’re almost at the inflection point where people are watching more programing on streaming than they are on traditional television. And it’s a reason why for our new television deals, which we enter into next year, every game is going to be available on a streaming service.” Part of that new package of television deals that the NBA is entering into next season also increases the number of regular season games broadcast on television from 15 to 75. The Japanese car manufacturers, Nissan and Honda, announced their merger plan, which would make them the third largest car manufacturer in the world and the third in terms of sales. PUBLICIDAD The automotive industry is undergoing dramatic changes as it seeks to move away from fossil fuels, prompting many companies to make risky decisions in order to remain relevant. PUBLICIDAD Mitsubishi Motors Corp. would be integrated into the merger of Nissan and Honda as a smaller ally, with the goal of catching up with the electric car industry that China is leading, along with Tesla. The merger of Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi could bring them up to the level of Toyota and Volkswagen. Honda's president, Toshihiro Mibe, explained that they will try to unify their operations under a joint holding company and that they will be the ones leading the new administration, while maintaining the principles of all the companies. They aim to reach a formal merger agreement by June 2025 and, after completing the agreement, list the holding company on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by August 2026. If Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi manage to merge, they will become a giant with a value of over 50,000 million dollars, putting them on par with Toyota Motor Corp. and Volkswagen AG. The merger reflects a trend across the industry towards consolidation, with companies exchanging knowledge in their respective areas of expertise to offer better electric cars, particularly with improved batteries and software. “As the business environment surrounding the automotive industry is changing significantly and competitiveness in storage batteries and software is becoming increasingly important, we expect the necessary measures to be taken to survive international competition,” said Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshimasa Hayashi.Seibert misses an extra point late as the Commanders lose their 3rd in a row, 34-26 to the Cowboys

LA was coming off a 28-22 victory against the New England Patriots in Week 11, but they failed to build on that win on Sunday as they lost their sixth game of the season. One of the bright spots in the loss against the Eagles was second-year wide receiver Puka Nacua, who logged nine catches in the contest for a game-high 117 receiving yards. It was another strong performance from the 23-year-old, who is coming off a Pro Bowl rookie campaign. Nacua's girlfriend Hallie Aiono also caught the attention of fans after she shared a handful of photos of her gameday outfit on Instagram. Aiono's post featured Nacuaas well, who also showed off his pre-game outfit for Sunday's contest. View the original article to see embedded media. The highlight of Aiono's look was her oversized blue-and-white sweater that repped the Rams' colors. She paired her top with a plain white mini-skirt, which allowed her sporty sweater to pop even more. Her black mid-calf boots provided the perfect contrast for her sporty and clean look, while also adding a bit of edginess and contrast. Aiono wore her hair tied back in a bun, which highlighted her gold hoop earrings. Aiono shouted out her sister Sidney Aiono, an LA-based wardrobe stylist, for helping her and Nacua out with their gameday looks. The outfit post drew a myriad of compliments from the fans on social media. "Ughhh the prettiest😭💙💛" reacted a fan "Hair goalzzzzz," a comment read. "glowing ✨" observed a user "cuties," commented Rams cheerleader and social media influencer Sharaiah Belle True. "Loveee🥰" posted a supporter. "Swag unlocked," commented Nacua himself. Gary A. Like her boyfriend, Aiono is also of Polynesian descent. Nacua and the Rams will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 1, when they go on the road to face the New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome. The Foxes are expected to make progress in their search on Tuesday, with the players due to resume training after 48 hours off. Coach Ben Dawson was due to lead the session as director of football Jon Rudkin attempts to appoint a permanent boss. David Moyes is thought to be among the names Leicester were keen to sound out, although it is unclear whether the former Everton and West Ham boss would want the job, given he would surely be a contender to return to Goodison Park if Sean Dyche fails to improve results. The swearing-in process ahead of legislative business beginning in January came a day after the final recount of a Nov. 5 election race concluded. Democrats, who have controlled the State House and governor’s office since 2018, saw their majorities narrow to a 76-73 advantage in the House, with two independents, and to a 20-15 edge in the Senate. The Legislature voted Wednesday for Attorney General Aaron Frey to continue in the role he has held since 2018, after Democrats nominated him by secret ballot Tuesday over challenger Maeghan Maloney, the district attorney for Kennebec and Somerset counties. Rep. Joe Perry, D-Bangor, will become the Maine state treasurer after beating House Majority Leader Mo Terry, D-Gorham. Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and Maine State Auditor Matt Dunlap did not face Democratic challengers for the positions they have held since 2021. Each chamber has new Democratic leadership after House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross, D-Portland, and Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, were termed out. Members elected former House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, D-Biddeford, to once again hold the gavel in the lower chamber and elected Assistant Senate Majority Leader Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, to lead the upper chamber. House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham, R-Winter Harbor, and Senate Minority Leader Trey Stewart, R-Presque Isle, will continue in their leadership roles. Republicans nominated former Maine Attorney General Bill Schneider, who served from 2011 to 2013, to compete for Frey’s position but did not have the numbers to elect him. The closed-door nomination process featured some drama after the Maine Republican Party initially said in a Nov. 26 news release that Bobby Charles, a Wayne native who served as assistant secretary of state for international narcotics and law enforcement affairs under former President George W. Bush, would be the party’s attorney general pick. But several Republican lawmakers said the party overstepped by publishing that news release last month. Maine Republican Party Executive Director Jason Savage did not respond Wednesday to a request for comment. Charles, who is mulling a run for governor in 2026, said during a Wednesday morning interview on WVOM he did not know what happened behind the scenes, adding it was “above my pay grade” and he had “a feeling it has to do with personalities or something.” “I was told people were shocked,” Charles said. “But you know what, it’s really not my call.” Faulkingham said Schneider, a Durham resident and Army veteran who previously was a state lawmaker, assistant U.S. attorney and district court judge, was “the better candidate here.” “They both have a good resume, but Bobby’s is in D.C. and Schneider’s is here in Maine,” Faulkingham said by text message Wednesday. Bellows beat the Republican nominee for secretary of state, Sawin Millett, a longtime lawmaker and former state commissioner from Waterford who earlier this year finished his final term in the Legislature that he was first elected to in 1968. Gov. Janet Mills, a Democrat, noted 36 members are “brand new” to the Legislature while speaking to incoming legislators Tuesday evening during a banquet and reception at the Augusta Civic Center. The Legislature has members ranging in age from 25 to 79. Mills mentioned a range of issues the Legislature will likely tackle ahead of a statutory end date of June 18, 2025, such as housing , rising property taxes and health care . Mills reiterated she plans on proposing a state budget in the coming weeks “that is lean and that maintains, to the greatest extent possible, commitments the Legislature has already made.” “As you consider my budget proposal and other legislation before you,” Mills said, “I urge you to keep the long-term fiscal stability of our state as a high priority.” More articles from the BDN

NEW YORK—The man accused of burning a woman to death inside a New York City subway train used a shirt to fan the flames, a prosecutor said Tuesday at his arraignment on murder charges. Sebastian Zapeta, 33, who federal immigration officials said is a Guatemalan citizen who entered the United States illegally, was not required to enter a plea and did not speak at the hearing in Brooklyn criminal court. Zapeta, wearing a white jumpsuit over a weathered black hooded sweatshirt, will remain jailed and is due back in court on Friday. His lawyer did not ask for bail. Zapeta is charged with two counts of murder, accusing him of intentionally killing the woman and killing her while committing arson. He is also charged with one count of arson. The top charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez called the attack a “gruesome and senseless act of violence” and said it would be “met with the most serious consequences.” The apparently random attack occurred Sunday morning on an F train that was stopped at the Coney Island station. The victim’s identification is still pending. Authorities say Zapeta approached the woman, who may have been sleeping in the train, and set her clothing on fire with a lighter. Zapeta then fanned the flames with a shirt, engulfing her in fire, Assistant District Attorney Ari Rottenberg said in court Tuesday. Zapeta then sat on a bench on the subway platform and watched, Rottenberg said. According to Rottenberg, Zapeta told detectives that he didn’t know what happened but identified himself in images of the attack. Zapeta’s lawyer, Andrew Friedman, did not speak to reporters after the arraignment. Video on social media appears to show some people looking on from the platform and at least one police officer walking by while the woman is on fire inside the train. NYPD Transit Chief Joseph Gulotta said Sunday that several officers responded to the fire and one stayed to keep the crime scene “the way it’s supposed to be” while the others went to get fire extinguishers and transit workers. “Officers who were on patrol on an upper level of that station smelled and saw smoke and went to investigate. What they saw was a person standing inside the train car fully engulfed in flames,” Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. They eventually put the fire out, but “unfortunately, it was too late,” Tisch said, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Zapeta was taken into custody Sunday afternoon while riding a train on the same subway line after teenagers recognized him from images circulated by the police. A Brooklyn address for Zapeta released by police matches a shelter that provides housing and substance abuse support. The shelter did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Federal immigration officials said Zapeta was deported in 2018 but later reentered the United States illegally. Overall, crime is down in the transit system compared to last year. Major felonies declined 6 percent between January and November compared to the same time period last year, according to data from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. But murders are up, with nine killings this year through November compared to five during the same period last year. Policing the subway is difficult, given the vast network of trains moving between 472 stations. Each stop contains multiple entry points and, in many stations, multiple floors and platforms.Kings head to San Jose looking to build off strong defensive homestand

Tennessee 32, Houston 27An Amsterdam district court convicted five men on Tuesday for their role in last month’s “antisemitic hit-and-run squads” following a football match. The men were found guilty of a slew of crimes including kicking Maccabi Tel Aviv fans in the street to inciting violence in chat groups, according to AFP. The harshest sentence was six months in prison for a man identified as Sefa O. who played a “leading role” in the public violence against multiple individuals. Following the football match on November 8 between Tel Aviv and Amsterdam’s Ajax, chaos unfolded on the streets as hordes of men shrouded in black hoodies targeted the supporters of the Israeli team. Dutch authorities arrested 62 people following the attacks, in which at least five people were hospitalised and up to 30 suffered from minor injuries. Reports also emerged of people being thrown into canals and rammed with cars. Court images showed O. kicking a person on the ground, chasing people and punching them in the head and the body in beatings which the prosecutor said had ”little to do with football”. The prosecutor also said there was “no evidence” of “terrorist intent”, adding the violence was not motivated by antisemitism, rather, by the “situation in Gaza”. A second defendant, Umutcan A., 24, received a one month sentence for assault and for tearing a Maccabi scarf from a fan. Another man was also jailed for one month, another for two-and-a-half months and the fifth was given 100 hours of community service. A sixth defendant, born in Gaza, who is facing an attempted murder charge, had his case postponed pending psychiatric assessment. The judge said the convicted individuals would normally serve community service, but considering the “seriousness” of the offences and the context in which they were committed, “only imprisonment is appropriate”. Another six suspects are set to appear in court at a later date. Three of them are minors. The violence was described by Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema as “hit and run attacks”, while Dutch prime minister Dick Schoof condemned the “antisemitic violence against Israelis”. Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were also “attacked, abused and pelted with fireworks" around the city and riot police intervened to protect them and escort them to hotels. The Israeli embassy in The Hague said mobs had chanted anti-Israel slogans and shared videos of their violence on social media, "kicking, beating, even running over Israeli citizens". "On the eve of Kristallnacht — when Jews in Nazi Germany faced brutal attacks — it is horrifying to witness antisemitic violence on the streets of Europe once again," it said.Defeated Okaikwei Central NDC Candidate Baba Sadiq Blows Hot

Abu Dhabi T10: Faf leads Morrisville Samp Army to fourth straight win– President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, has called on the Mozambican government to take decisive action against opposition leader Venancio Mondlane and his supporters for rejecting the results of the October 9 presidential elections. Charamba’s remarks come amid widespread unrest in Mozambique following the Constitutional Council’s December 23 announcement, which upheld the ruling FRELIMO party’s victory. The court declared FRELIMO candidate Daniel Chapo the winner with 65% of the vote, though this figure was lower than the 70% initially reported by the electoral commission in October. Opposition groups, led by Mondlane, who secured approximately 24% of the vote, have rejected the results, alleging widespread vote rigging. Protests erupted across Mozambique, with civil society group Plataforma Decide reporting at least 130 fatalities in clashes between demonstrators and police. Charamba took to social media platform X to express his stance, posting a fiery message urging Mozambique’s government to suppress dissent. “HE CAN’T BURN DOWN A WHOLE NATION IN THE NAME OF SOME MEASLY 24% SUPPORT, SURELY!!!!!!!! The Mozambican Govt must show its firm hand, now that the courts have spoken!!!!!!” wrote Charamba. The protests, which have been described as the largest against FRELIMO in Mozambique’s history, follow criticism from Western observers who have labelled the elections neither free nor fair. Allegations of electoral fraud against FRELIMO are not new, as the party has faced similar accusations since the country’s first multiparty elections in 1994. Adding to the controversy, the Constitutional Council’s ruling gave FRELIMO fewer parliamentary seats than initially announced, without providing a detailed explanation for the revisions. This has further fuelled opposition claims of irregularities. Mondlane’s camp has steadfastly rejected the results, maintaining that the elections were marred by malpractice. Meanwhile, calls for accountability and fair governance in Mozambique continue to grow as the country grapples with post-election unrest. Charamba’s comments highlight Zimbabwe’s close ties to the FRELIMO-led Mozambican government, but critics argue his statements reflect a disregard for democratic principles in the region. As protests rage on, the Mozambican government faces mounting pressure to address the crisis and ensure political stability. Meanwhile, South Africa is calling for “urgent dialogue” in Mozambique as violence escalates after a court confirmed the ruling FRELIMO party as the winner of the disputed October election. In a ruling on Tuesday, Mozambique’s Constitutional Council validated Daniel Chapo as the winner of the election with 65.17% of the vote. Ronald Lamola, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations, says South Africa is concerned by the “violence and the subsequent disruptive protest in reaction to the announcement”. SA has offered to facilitate dialogue.LeBron James is going to have to make room for the NFL.
