- Signaling a new era of service to the congregation and the community with renewed commitment and the addition of beautifully renovated spaces - BERGAMO, Italy, and LOS ANGELES, Calif., Dec. 24, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Nestled between Lake Como and Lake Iseo in the north of Italy, the city of Bergamo is an architectural gem of medieval charm and breathtaking beauty. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, its landmarks take visitors on a journey through history, from the 12th-century Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore to the famous 16th-century walls that surround the upper city, through the museum that honors the beloved operas of Bergamo’s own Gaetano Donizetti, to today’s trendy bistros, bakeries and gelaterias. And in the heart of the city are the expanded new facilities of the Ideal Church of Scientology Mission of Bergamo . Scientology Missions form the vanguard of the Scientology religion, providing the full array of basic and introductory Scientology services and Scientology auditing (spiritual counseling). The Ideal Church of Scientology Mission in Bergamo is designed to serve as the physical embodiment of Scientology technology in helping all to attain spiritual freedom. It was a joyous Sunday afternoon, November 10, when community leaders and parishioners celebrated the anniversary and expansion of the Ideal Church of Scientology Mission of Bergamo. Those joining Mission Director Marta Riva for this milestone celebration included Ms. Nilupa Warnakulasooriya, Representative of the Sri Lanka North Italy Community; Mr. Franco Ravaglioli, Vice President of the Universal Peace Federation of Italy; Mr. Daniel Sigua, Founder and CEO of TCG News Italia; and Mr. Gabriele Riva, an intercultural advocate and a lieutenant of the Alpini, an elite mountain infantry corps of the Italian Army known for its volunteerism and humanitarian activities. Stepping to the podium, Ms. Warnakulasooriya thanked the mission for helping her achieve her humanitarian objectives. She spoke of her passion for ensuring Sri Lankan children living in Italy can adapt to the culture and thrive in their new home. Growing up in a foreign culture can be daunting. Children have to contend with customs and struggle with a new language, which can set them apart and create friction. When Ms. Warnakulasooriya discovered L. Ron Hubbard’s The Way to Happiness she found the practical skills and moral values that can prepare these youths to become the leaders of tomorrow . “L. Ron Hubbard provided a great gift by giving us The Way to Happiness ,” she said, “a gift that allows us to create harmony and respect among people of all races, religions, ages and genders.” Vice President of Universal Peace Federation of Italy Mr. Franco Ravaglioli believes in the unique and essential role religions play in promoting a world of lasting peace in which people of all nationalities, ethnicities and cultures can live together in harmony. “I appreciate the Scientologists I’ve come to know—they are open, willing to work together, and committed to creating real change. We will continue together on this path to create a better world,” he said, “for I believe that one day, we can achieve what Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard envisioned with the Aims of Scientology: ‘A world without insanity, without criminals and without war.’ In other words, a world of peace.” TCG News Italia CEO Mr. Daniel Sigua is dedicated to the human rights of the Latin American diaspora in Italy. “Today, we have a community that is more aware and educated about human rights, thanks to your Spanish-language resources and materials promoting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.” He thanked the Church for its firm commitment to promoting values of unity and collaboration. “Thanks to your support, we will be able to carry out important initiatives for human rights and the growth of our community.” The final speaker, Lt. Riva, has long served in the Alpini’s legendary Giulia Mountain Brigade. “Those experiences—despite their hardships—have remained with me for a lifetime,” he said. “In the early 1980s, I was offered the opportunity to host 40 young university students from the Philippines who were touring around the world. In my small hamlet of about 1,000 people, convincing my fellow villagers to open their homes and hearts to strangers from a country so different from ours was a feat. But hospitality and generosity are values we lived by back then—values that, sadly, have faded over the years, even in my own little town.” Last winter, after the long interruption of the pandemic, the students from the Filipino choir reached out again, and Mr. Riva turned to the Scientology Mission of Bergamo. “It is thanks to all of you—your willingness, your help, and your incredible efficiency—that this choir was able to perform here in Bergamo. They sang in honor of the many families touched by the pandemic, families who have shown strength and resilience. This experience brought new life to my village. I want to express my deepest gratitude for the Church of Scientology’s invaluable role as a champion of ‘cooperation between different cultures for the common good.’” Mission director Marta Riva shared a brief history of her Mission, its services, and its humanitarian goals. “The 2020 pandemic was one of the hardest times our city ever experienced,” she said. “Our staff and parishioners immediately responded to help the many families affected by the tragedy. Today, our Scientology community has grown to such an extent that we needed to expand our premises, where we stand ready to serve not only Scientologists but all of Bergamo.” Visitors to the Ideal Bergamo Mission are welcome to tour the Public Information Display, featuring multimedia presentations of the basic beliefs and practices of Dianetics and Scientology as well as the life and legacy of L. Ron Hubbard. As an Ideal Church of Scientology Mission, Bergamo is equipped with every facility needed to provide the full array of introductory Scientology services. These include the popular Life Improvement Courses through which anyone may find workable solutions to common challenges of everyday life—such as how to improve a marriage, successfully raise children, increase personal motivation, and set and achieve goals. The Mission also offers seminars on a wide range of topics, including personal efficiency. The Hubbard Dianetics Seminar is based on Mr. Hubbard’s watershed work Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health , the bestselling book that reveals the source of one’s nightmares, unreasonable fears and irrational behavior—the reactive mind—and how to conquer it. Additionally, the Mission provides spiritual counseling, known as auditing , and the Purification Program , developed by Mr. Hubbard to free individuals from the mental and spiritual damage caused by drugs and toxins. November 10 also saw the Grand Opening of the new Ideal Church of Scientology Mission of McMinnville, Oregon, and the Ideal Scientology Mission of Chiayi, Taiwan. It was followed on November 16, with the Grand Opening of the Ideal Scientology Missions of Taichung, Taiwan, and Santo André, Brazil. The new Ideal Scientology Mission of Osaka, Japan, will open on November 30. Many more Ideal Scientology Missions are planned across North and South America, Europe and Asia in the coming year. The Scientology religion was founded by author and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard. Mr. David Miscavige is the Scientology religion’s ecclesiastical leader . The first Church of Scientology was formed in Los Angeles in 1954 and the religion has expanded to more than 11,000 Churches, Missions and affiliated groups, with millions of members in 167 countries. JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s attorney general has ordered police to open an investigation into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife on suspicion of harassing political opponents and witnesses in the Israeli leader’s corruption trial. The Israeli Justice Ministry made the announcement in a terse message late Thursday, saying the investigation would focus on the findings of a recent report by the “Uvda” investigative program into Sara Netanyahu. The program uncovered a trove of WhatsApp messages in which Mrs. Netanyahu appears to instruct a former aid to organize protests against political opponents and to intimidate Hadas Klein, a key witness in the trial. The announcement did not mention Mrs. Netanyahu by name, and the Justice Ministry declined further comment. But in a video released earlier Thursday, Netanyahu listed what he said were the many kind and charitable acts by his wife and blasted the Uvda report as “lies.” It was the latest in a long line of legal troubles for the Netanyahus — highlighted by the prime minister's ongoing corruption trial . Netanyahu is charged with fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in a series of cases alleging he exchanged favors with powerful media moguls and wealthy associates. Netanyahu denies the charges and says he is the victim of a “witch hunt” by overzealous prosecutors, police and the media.

Look. Santa’s been around for a while. A spring chicken he isn’t. Plus — as us collaborators know only too well — he has bad habits. It’s not the drugs or the drink. It’s the snacks. You know the way we use the word ‘treats’ to excuse scoffing salted caramel anything? Covers a multitude, that word ‘treats’, with its implication of rarity and its paired implication of somehow having been earned by earlier privation or meritorious effort. The world may not owe you a living, or fame, or fortune, but we still feel entitled to treats and extrapolate from that to the conviction that we must all reward/bribe Santa by setting out a saucer of cookies and a glass of milk. It’s a reprehensible form of cause and effect. Parents spend the year conscientiously refusing ever to link food with their children’s occasional good behaviour. Back in the day, this wasn’t a problem because, once you had the bonding thing nailed, parenting was down to training your kids like dogs: “Homework done? Who’s a good boy, then?” Then enlightenment struck and the instructions to well-behaved offspring to sit and gratefully snaffle a KitKat morphed into as shameful exemplar of your parental inadequacies so vile that you knew, if you stood for election, even a crime gang leader would do better than you. Santa, of course, bypasses all this child development woke stuff. He still operates the canine training model: “Been a good girl? Here’s a whole stocking full of reward for you (insert ear-scratch here)!” Understandably, the dog-training model works both ways. You use it to ensure reasonable pre-teen behaviour in your offspring, then accept that the quid pro quo is that the overweight guy in the red suit gets a few cookies left out for him. We don’t even do the political reproach where Santa is concerned. No parent ever complains: “We never see you except when you want free cookies, and I bet you haven’t declared the carrots for Rudolf to Sipo either.” Santa: Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell It’s arguable that the success, over these many generations, of the Santa Claus model of social conditioning is behind the benign Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell approach to Saint Nick himself regnant in the western world. Presenters on radio programmes get more warnings from their producers about not breaching the unspoken rules than if the next guest was the Israeli ambassador. Signs on it, when some bunch of medics this year raised reservations about Santa as a health model, the story died on the vine. Leave the old charmer alone, was the unspoken message, a bit like the consensus around Michael D. Nor will the dire example of the Anglican priest Paul Chamberlain be readily forgotten. This eminent cleric shared his truth with a congregation of 10-year-olds. Let’s not even delineate the shape of his ecclesiastical truth. All anybody needs to know is that it broke the Yuletide Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell rule, and peace on earth plus goodwill to all ceased, right there. His public defrocking, defenestration, and forced pyre-toasting was averted only by him seeing the light and outing himself as a complete eejit. In the litany of public sinning covered by the grandees of many religions, what he’d done might be regarded as down the scale a bit, but it represented a profound failure to read the room. The reverend priest would’ve been a lot better off finding a saucer, a couple of cookies, and a space beside the hearth for their display. The 'Late Late' connection Santa may be all ho ho ho and product placement but, when it comes right down to it, you know you shouldn’t cross him. It’s a bit like Pat Kenny quoting Gay Byrne to the effect that “one for everybody in the audience” was a dreadfully counterproductive move, the negative consequences of which meant that, on any given show, you might have a stunning lineup of guests and topics, but if the Late Late Show audience freebie that particular week wasn’t up to much, it tainted the in-studio appreciation and subsequent recollection of the entire show, turning the presenter into a freebie-shill and the audience into discount Olivers, always asking for more. Perhaps — because those of us who love the programme — perhaps in the distant future, someone as wise as Gay will condemn the Toy Show and its relentlessly greedy brand extension to a full-day festival rather than the 90-minute celebration of the commercially mawkish and precocious that it really is. Of course, the very minute you say anything against the Toy Show, you’re in trouble. I blame my misfortune, this year, on that. Definitely. If I’d never bad-mouthed the Toy Show, I’d be fine. 'Ho ho' turns to 'oh no' Off I flew to spend Christmas in warm climes, and — before exiting the plane in Newark airport — dutifully checked I had phone and wallet. Two hours into a four-hour layover, I realised I’d left my iPad on the flight. “Oh-oh,” I went, in a Santa Claus reversal. Inevitably, the plane had been turned around and was off to Cancún. The customer service guy on the phone said he’d email me a lost property form, which I filled in and filed, before wandering the airport to locate a customer service human in the flesh. This, after an hour and a half, I duly did. Lifted me out of it, she did. Stood there and ate the face off me. I was supposed to check my seat and surroundings for property before I left the plane, she snapped. She effectively refused to help locate my battered little computer with its Sink the Rich sticker because I didn’t obey all the instructions. ‘Customer service’, said her United Airlines label but not her mouth. (The Sink the Rich sticker came for free when I ordered Bernie Sanders’ most recent book.) I got on the second flight facing a future wherein all my colleagues, friends, and relations cast me aside as an incompetent inattentive old fool for losing an iPad that was too good for me in the first place. My inner discourse tends towards the punitive and ageist at the best of times but after my bracing encounter with the customer service woman, it hit rock bottom. I decided to lie or at least not tell on myself. Me? Lose an iPad? Perish the thought. Then my phone started to buzz with messages from colleagues who could see United Airlines’ acknowledgment of my lost property form and they all began doing technological things to find out where it was (Newark Airport, surprise, surprise) and assure me that iCloud would have everything I’d ever put into the iPad stashed safely somewhere. Aoife in the office found the iPad before the lost one and started to reprogramme it as a fallback. This greatly helped the grieving process. Santa, meanwhile, continued the ho ho ho in his promiscuously cheerful way from every hoarding and radio programme.New Delhi: Ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday mounted another blistering attack on the country’s interim leader Muhammad Yunus, accusing him of leading an “undemocratic group” that has no responsibility towards the people. In a statement on the eve of the ‘Bijoy Dibosh’, Hasina called Yunus a “fascist” and alleged that the main aim of the dispensation led by him is to suppress the spirit of the Liberation War and the pro-liberation forces. Bangladesh celebrates December 16 as ‘Bijoy Dibosh’ or Victory Day. On December 16, 1971, then Chief of Pakistani forces General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93,000 troops, surrendered to the joint forces of the Indian Army and ‘Mukti Bahini’ after the 13-day war following which East Pakistan became Bangladesh. Hasina, who fled to India after resigning as the prime minister in August in the face of massive anti-government protests, in the statement in Bengali said that “anti-national groups” had unconstitutionally captured power. “This undemocratic group led by the fascist Yunus has no responsibility towards the people,” she said. “They are taking power and obstructing all public welfare work,” she added. Hasina slammed the Yunus dispensation and said the people of Bangladesh are burdened by the rise in prices. “As this government is not democratically elected, they have no accountability to the people. Their main aim is to suppress the spirit of the Liberation War and the pro-liberation forces and suppress their voice,” Hasina said. “On the contrary, they are secretly supporting the anti-independence radical communal forces. The lack of sensitivity of the leaders of this government, including the fascist Yunus, towards the Liberation War and its history is proven in every step they take,” she added. The Awami League leader has been staying in India since she left Bangladesh. The relations between India and Bangladesh came under strain after the interim government headed by Yunus came to power. India has been expressing concerns over attacks on the minorities, especially Hindus, in that country. There have been spate of attacks on the minorities including on the Hindu community in Bangladesh in the last few months.
