WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. (AP) — Jordan Sears scored 25 points, Jalen Reed had 21 points and 13 rebounds, and LSU defeated UCF 109-102 in triple overtime on Sunday to take third place at the Greenbrier Tip-Off. LSU trailed by 18 points early in the second half, then failed to hold a lead at the end of regulation and each of the first two overtime periods. The Tigers went up by five with a minute to go in the third overtime. UCF cut it to three, then Vyctorius Miller made a driving layup, Jordan Sears followed with a dunk and the Tigers were able to hold on when leading by seven. Cam Carter scored 20 points, Miller had 16 and Dji Bailey 14 for LSU (5-1). Darius Johnson had 25 points, eight assists and six rebounds for UCF (4-2). Keyshawn Hall had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Jordan Ivy-Curry scored 20. South Florida led by 15 points at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for all but a few possessions in the first 11 1/2 minutes of the second half. UCF led 62-48 with 8 1/2 minutes remaining but Sears hit three 3-pointers and LSU drew to within 64-59 with 6 minutes to go. The Tigers scored the last six points of regulation to force overtime. In the first half, LSU led 15-13 about eight minutes into the game but the Tigers missed 15 of 16 shots while being outscored 25-3 over the next 10 minutes. South Florida led 40-25 at halftime after shooting 46% to 25% for LSU. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . People's National Party (PNP) President, Mark Golding, says he is disappointed that the leadership of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has not denounced the racist rhetoric that has been directed at him by some of its members. “I am very disappointed in the leadership of the Jamaican Labour party that they tacitly encourage this kind of behaviour because to me it indicates a lack of principle on their part,” he said. Government Members of Parliament Juliet Cuthbert Flynn and Everald Warmington have been at the forefront of a racially charged attack on the opposition leader, targeting him because of his skin colour and ethnicity. At a recent political meeting, Warmington asserted that a white man should never become Prime Minister of Jamaica. “We are descendants of the slaves. We nuh want nuh descendant of slave master come rule us again. “It's better my dog bite me, than the white man dog bite me,” he said. Using the her platform at the JLP's 81st annual conference on Sunday, Cuthbert Flynn referred to Golding as “Markie British”, stating that he is “a man who believes in holding chains around the around the neck of black people,” and that “him a tek picture a hold chain round man neck, the Rastaman neck.” She was referring to a photo of Golding from a brief skit at a PNP political meeting, in which Golding is shown holding a chain around a Rastafarian's neck, a symbolic gesture intended to represent the Opposition leader freeing him from bondage. However, Cuthbert Flynn provided no context for the image. But speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Golding reiterated that he is a proud Jamaican. “I am a born Jamaican, I didn't choose my skin colour - I am loyal Jamaican, a patriotic Jamaican and I am giving of myself to serve the people of Jamaica,” he said. He described the racial attacks by members of the JLP as desperate. “In a sense, I am flattered that all they can really attack me on is the colour of my skin,” he said. “I don't think any political leader has faced what I have been facing in this regard and it is because they see that the tide is turned against them, and the people of Jamaica are fed up with them - the dishonesty, the lack of integrity, and a government that pursues policies that don't benefit people in a direct way, so people have loss hope, people want change,” he added. Golding is also concerned about how these racist remarks from government members may impact Jamaica's image globally. “Jamaica is part of the family of nations, we live in a world that is very connected and other countries, other races of people are looking on and saying how it is that the Government of Jamaica is allowing a junior minister or a former minister, two MPs, to be using racial taunts and slurs as a source of attacking a political opponent - it's very bad form and it's unfortunate for Jamaica and it really needs to stop,” he said. - Sashana Small Follow The Gleaner on X, formerly Twitter, and Instagram @JamaicaGleaner and on Facebook @GleanerJamaica. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has issued a public alert warning Nigerians about a cybersecurity threat involving the use of Spotify to promote malicious activities. The agency, in a public notice issued on Tuesday, disclosed that threat actors are exploiting the popular music streaming platform to advertise game hacks, pirated software, and spam links that could expose users to cyber threats. According to NITDA, cybercriminals embed malicious promotions in playlist names and podcast descriptions on Spotify, explaining that these promotions are used to advertise game hacks for popular video games such as Fortnite, GTA, Apex, and Roblox. Additionally. They also promote pirated software (commonly referred to as ‘cracks’), spam links, and other malicious sites. This abuse is said to leverage Spotify’s web player results to improve the search engine visibility of these harmful websites, putting unsuspecting users at risk of malware, scams, and other cyber threats. NITDA warned that the exploitation of Spotify could lead to exposure to scams and phishing attacks, downloading of malware that can compromise user devices and Loss of personal and financial data through interactions with malicious websites. To manage the risks, NITDA advised users to exercise Caution with suspicious playlists and podcasts and avoid engaging with playlists or podcasts that feature unusual or suspicious text in their descriptions. It also warned users not to click Unknown Links, and also ensure the Spotify app is updated to the latest version to minimise vulnerabilities. The agency further advised Spotify users in Nigeria to remain vigilant and adhere to cybersecurity best practices to safeguard their personal information and devices. According to the agency, the websites posing as OpenAI’s popular AI, ChatGPT, are tricking users into downloading malicious files or software to their devices.

CHEYENNE – Food is a basic necessity of life, and few places in Cheyenne understand this as much as St. Joseph's Food Pantry. Whether it be a single mom working two jobs or senior citizens raising their grandchildren, it can be a struggle sometimes to get food on the table for the whole family. Monday morning, from 9:30 to noon, St. Joseph's Food Pantry gave away more than 500 boxes full of food for Thanksgiving meals to local families. There was no financial requirement for pick-up; you only needed to be a resident of Laramie County. The pantry opened pre-registration for the Thanksgiving boxes late last month, and maxed out by Nov. 11, according to food pantry director Eva Estorga. She said this was the fastest they've ever "sold out." When the pantry initially began in the 1980s, it was relatively small, starting in the basement of the parish office of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cheyenne. Over the course of many years, the demand for assistance required the pantry to move to a larger space, and then another one. They've been at their current location since 2016. The pantry currently provides an average of 700 to 800 clients a week with a week's worth of groceries. They serve their clients Monday through Thursday and have help from more than 80 volunteers. A majority of their produce, whether it be for Thanksgiving or any other day, is donated by local businesses, the community or food drives, but they also use any money donated to them to buy products themselves. The Thanksgiving box distribution day takes months of preparation. Estorga has to make sure they have enough food and boxes, is constantly seeking volunteers, and double-checks that all of the orders can be fulfilled when the day comes. Volunteers spend the beginning of November helping bring Thanksgiving food donations into the warehouse, and the day of the event is when they pack and hand out all the boxes. They usually need about 40 volunteers every year for it, and any extra ingredients they have will go to the boxes they hand out at Christmas time. The pantry has been doing the Thanksgiving box distribution for more than 15 years, and most of the food items have remained the same, but they try to get more each year. They give away boxed potato mixes, stuffing, turkey, canned yams and other Thanksgiving staples. Kathy Cunningham, a volunteer with the pantry who helps with check-ins, told the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, "We've had families tell us that if we didn't put this on, they wouldn't have had a Thanksgiving." The way the pantry distributes its boxes is with a drive-through system, where volunteers help with unloading food deliveries, picking up donations, filling boxes, welcoming clients, managing volunteer teams and distributing food. Wyoming first lady Jennie Gordon also helped in the assembly line as a volunteer. Another volunteer, Denise Hawkins, who helps with St. Joseph's Food Pantry's website and social media, told the WTE, "I love volunteering, in general, but here it's more of a family, and it feels like I receive more than I give." The pantry will be closed until next Monday so volunteers can spend the holidays with their families. "We've been doing this for years, and it just wouldn't be possible without (the kindness) of the community," said Hawkins. The National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) has raised concerns about the rising trend of consumer loans, fearing that this could lead to a debt trap, a situation in which an individual, a household or even a country is forced to take new loans to repay existing debt obligations. According to the NESDC's report on the social outlook for the third quarter, household debt as of the second quarter amounted to 16.3 trillion baht, an increase of 1.3% year-on-year, decelerating from a 2.3% rise in the previous quarter. The debt-to-GDP ratio in the second quarter stood at 89.6%, down from 90.7% in the first quarter. Danucha Pichayanan, secretary-general of the NESDC, said nearly all forms of household debt had either decelerated or contracted, except for personal loans. The decline in household debt was attributed to the high debt burden combined with deteriorating loan quality, prompting financial institutions to tighten their criteria when assessing loan applications. The quality of household loans has continued to decline, too, with outstanding personal loans overdue by more than 90 days in the National Credit Bureau database totalling 1.16 trillion baht, accounting for 8.48% of total loans in the second quarter, up from 8.01% in the first. The NESDC highlighted key issues that require attention in addressing the household debt problem over the coming time periods including increasing consumer loan trends; more dependence on informal loans; rising mortgage defaults; and the impact of the recent floods. Mr Danucha said personal consumer loans are likely to increase, as personal consumer loans now account for nearly one-third of total household debt. These loans typically carry high interest rates. If households are not cautious about taking on debt or lack financial discipline, this could lead to a debt trap, he said. Additionally, he said as financial institutions maintain stringent lending standards, households may turn to informal loans, especially borrowers who have already reached their maximum borrowing limits within the formal system. Last year, the value of informal loans was estimated at 67 billion baht. Mr Danucha added there is also an upward trend in mortgage defaults, particularly for loans under 3 million baht, indicating that the incomes of certain households have not yet recovered, and their financial situation remains strained. This is evident from their decision to default on home loans before other types of debt, despite housing being considered an essential asset. More importantly, he said the impact of the floods on household liquidity and debt repayment ability requires attention. The government may need to monitor the accessibility of relief measures for flood victims and expedite recovery efforts to restore normal conditions, enabling household incomes to recover quickly. According to the NESDC report, personal consumer loans made up 25% of total household debt in the first quarter, rising to 27.9% in the second quarter of this year. These loans are unsecured (without collateral), carry high interest rates and have a high default rate. As for mortgage loan defaults, 18.2% of total mortgage loans were classified as non-performing loans in the first quarter, with this figure increasing to 23.2% in the second. In a related development, the NESDC on Monday reported that unemployment in the third quarter of 2024 rose slightly from the same period in 2023, reaching 1.02% of the total workforce, or 410,000 individuals. The total workforce for the quarter tallied 40.5 million in the third quarter, down by 0.1% from the corresponding quarter last year. Meanwhile, the number of people employed stands at 40 million, a 0.1% decrease compared with the corresponding period in 2023, primarily due to a 3.4% contraction in agricultural employment, partly resulting from the flood. In contrast, non-agricultural sectors grew by 1.4%, with the transportation and storage sector expanding the most (14%), followed by the hotel and restaurant sector (6.1%). Meanwhile, the manufacturing sector contracted by 1.4%, particularly in the production of computer and electronic products and vehicles. A key issue to monitor is the adaptation of the workforce to modern industries. It is expected that the new industries preparing to invest in Thailand will require 170,000 workers.Michigan's defense of national title fell short, aims to cap lost season with win against Ohio StateTuesday's Transactions

The starts may not look like locks at first, but they should come through in Week 13. Conversely, I’ve included some players who might otherwise seem like safe plays to avoid as well. Quarterbacks Start: Sam Darnold, Vikings vs Cardinals Darnold had a rough patch a few weeks ago, but he’s back in good form, putting up five combined TDs in his past two games. Even against the Bears top-notch pass defense last week, Darnold threw for a season-high 330 yards to go along with his two scores. His opponent this week, the Cardinals, have a decent secondary, but they pale in comparison to Chicago’s. Other locks: —Jalen Hurts at Ravens —Baker Mayfield at Panthers —CJ Stroud at Jaguars —Justin Herbert at Falcons Avoid: Jared Goff, Lions vs Bears Goff doesn’t force the ball through the air if he doesn’t have to and he would be remiss to do so against a top rated Bears secondary that will be looking to vindicate themselves after giving up some big plays to Sam Darnold last week. He’s also got the best 1 and 2 punch in football in his backfield. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are a force and they’ll likely have a much easier time finding holes in Chicago’s run defense than Goff will in the passing game. Running backs Start: Chuba Hubbard, Panthers vs Buccaneers Hubbard fantasy owners were anxious last week, upon hearing the news that rookie running back Jonathon Brooks would be seeing his first game action this season. Fears were assuaged when Brooks only got two carries the entire game for 7 yards. Brooks’ carries could increase as he gets more comfortable in the offense, but Hubbard should have at least one more week as the starter in Carolina. It will come against a Buccaneers run defense that is a top-10 matchup for opposing runners in Week 13. Other locks: —Bucky Irving at Panthers —Jonathan Taylor at Patriots —Josh Jacobs vs Dolphins —Tyrone Tracy Jr., at Cowboys Avoid: James Conner, Cardinals at Vikings The Week 11 bye didn’t do Conner any favors as he only ran for 8 yards on seven carries in his Week 12 return. He was able to salvage his day through the air, catching five passes for 41 yards, but it was an underwhelming game from a fantasy perspective against the Seattle run defense. He’ll face a Vikings defense that ranks as a top-two run stopper going into Week 13 — Conner only gained 25 combined yards against Detroit’s top-three run defense in Week 2. Trey Benson is also gaining steam in the Arizona offense. It’s best to fade Conner this week, if you have that luxury. Wide receivers Start: DJ Moore, Bears at Lions Moore is finally starting to make waves again in fantasy, after slumping from Weeks 6 to 10. He’s had his best two-game stint of the season thus far in Weeks 11 and 12 though, going for a season-high 119 combined yards and a score in the latter game. New offensive coordinator Thomas Jones has sparked the offense and Moore has been a prime beneficiary. The Bears will have fits trying to run at the Lions’ stout run defense, so they could attack them through the air. Moore is a prime contender to keep up his recent run in Week 13. Other locks: —Ladd McConkey at Falcons —Puka Nacua at Saints —Jaxon Smith-Njigba at Jets —Jakobi Meyers at Chiefs Avoid: Quentin Johnston, Chargers vs Ravens Johnston is the definition of boom or bust, either scoring double-digit fantasy points or gaining fewer than 25 yards in nearly every game he’s appeared in this season. On "Monday Night Football," he had zero catches on five targets. Johnston has a great matchup this week, but there’s no guarantee he’ll capitalize on it. Johnston is anything but a lock this week. Tight ends Start: Luke Schoonmaker, Cowboys vs Giants Schoonmaker had three catches for 55 yards and a score against Washington in a thrilling game. Schoonmaker provided another dependable option to QB Cooper Rush. Jake Ferguson is still in concussion protocol and it’s a short week as Dallas is playing on Thanksgiving, so Schoonmaker is likely to start once again. With CeeDee Lamb nursing nagging injuries as well, look for Rush to lean heavily on Schoonmaker this week. Other locks: —Jonnu Smith at Packers —Trey McBride at Vikings —Taysom Hill vs Rams —Dallas Goedert at Ravens Avoid: Sam LaPorta, Lions vs Bears LaPorta just can’t find any consistency in the Detroit offense, going weeks between decent fantasy outings at times. He had just three catches for 19 yards in Week 12 after missing Week 11 with a shoulder injury and things aren’t looking up for him this week as the Lions are playing a stalwart Chicago defense on short rest. Look for the Lions to go run heavy this week, taking the onus off LaPorta and the rest of the Lions receiving group. ___ This column was provided to The Associated Press by RosterWatch, www.rosterwatch.com.
