INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The 2024 Big Ten Football Championship Game weekend is set to bring in at least $20 million for the city of Indianapolis. With over 70,000 fans headed to the city, the economic boost won’t just stem from the game’s ticket sales. Sam Reel, communications and marketing manager of Indiana Sports Corp , said, “They’re spending money at restaurants and bars around the city. That’s kind of the cumulative total of all of these people coming into the city.” The game between the Oregon Ducks and the Penn State Nittany Lions is set to begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at Lucaas Oil Stadium, but fans on Thursday were already making their way to Indianapolis. Oregon fans were also offered new nonstop flights to Indy between Friday and Sunday . “Obviously, with Oregon, the Indianapolis Airport Authority have added more flights so they get to experience that low barrier that the Indianapolis Airport obviously provides,” Reel said. “Penn State as well coming in. So, we are seeing more kind of national travel than we might some years.” Once those fans arrive in Indy, they will have several events to attend at the Indianapolis Convention Center next to the stadium. The Big Ten Fan Fest will kick off at 4 p.m. Friday and run until 9 p.m. The fest will include interactive games, guest appearances, food, drink and live entertainment. Anyone with tickets to the championship game can attend the fest for free. Fans who want to attend but do not have tickets to the game can purchase passes for the fest online . Also at the Convention Center, fans can attend the first Big Ten Takedown starting at 5 p.m. Friday. The event is a wrestling dual between Indiana University and Illinois University. Just outside the Convention Center, fans will find Tailgate Town, where they can also enjoy and purchase several Indy iconic foods. “Indianapolis has a lot for you to do that you might not know about,” Reel said. “Obviously, Mass Ave (cultural district) has a great opportunity, but then down here in the downtown core, there’s going to be restaurants with Big Ten signage. Oregon’s having some local events and Penn State as well.” One of those local restaurants gearing up for some big earnings is the Slippery Noodle Inn, located near Lucas Oil Stadium. The bar’s co-owner Sean Lothridge said, “Typically on a Colts Sunday, we’ll run about 1,500 people through the door here, so it will probably be around that level, so we expect this to be like a really busy Colts game.” The bar will also roll out some specialty drinks to bring fans in. “We’re doing some fun themed cocktails for one of the schools. We’re going to cater to them a little bit, but both teams are welcome here and we’ll have a lot of fun.”STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State players have watched Ashton Jeanty make opponents look silly all season. They don't want to be the next defenders Boise State’s star posterizes with jukes, spin moves, stiff arms and heavy shoulders. But they also know that slowing down Jeanty, who finished second in Heisman Trophy voting , will be their toughest task yet when the two teams meet in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31. “In any other year, I think the guy wins the Heisman,” Penn State coach James Franklin said. “You could make the argument that he should have won it this year. He is hard to tackle. He is compact, 5-(foot)-10, he has the ability to run away from you. He has the ability to make you miss.” Jeanty led the nation with 2,497 rushing yards on 344 carries this season. He scored more touchdowns (30) than any player since Najee Harris scored 30 times with Alabama in 2020. Additionally, Jeanty’s yards after contact (1,889) exceed every FBS running backs’ rushing total since Oklahoma State’s Chuba Hubbard led the NCAA with 2,094 total rushing yards in 2019. Jeanty also forced an NCAA-record 143 missed tackles this season. The junior did it all behind an offensive line that has been forced to shuffle its parts in the wake of numerous injuries. Only left tackle Kage Casey and left guard Ben Dooley have started every game up front for the Broncos this season. “He’s a beast in terms of his production on the field, but then also his durability,” Franklin said. “There’s not too many people that are able to get clean shots on him. All of it is super impressive. But I think the stat that I mentioned earlier, the most impressive stat is the yards after contact.” This could be Jeanty’s biggest challenge to date, too. Although he’s helped Boise State churn out 250 rushing yards per game, good for fifth among FBS programs, the Nittany Lions are well stocked to defend the run. Their defense is seventh nationally allowing just 100 rushing yards per game and has tightened up down the stretch. In its last six games, Penn State is allowing just 2.7 yards per rush and has only given up three rushing touchdowns, two coming in the Big Ten championship game against No. 1 Oregon. “They’ve had our backs throughout the whole year,” Penn State quarterback Drew Allar said. “They have made me a lot better throughout the year, just going against the best defense in America and just glad I got to go against them every day in practice and not against them out on the field in a game setting.” In the opening round of the CFP, Penn State held SMU to just 58 rushing yards on 36 carries. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions notched 11 of their 50 tackles for loss over the last six games against the Mustangs. Most of those came from a defensive line that regularly rotates run-stuffing tackles Zane Durant, Dvon J-Thomas and Coziah Izzard between dynamic ends Abdul Carter and Dani Dennis-Sutton. Carter alone has 21 1/2 of his team’s 102 stops behind the line of scrimmage this year. He's hoping to add a few against Jeanty and stay off the star back's own long-running highlight reel. “I’m living in my dreams,” Carter said. “I’m having the most fun I ever had playing football and I’ve been playing since I was 8 years old. I’m very blessed. I’m just very humbled to have this opportunity. I just want to keep taking advantage of all the opportunities that I have.” Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . WASHINGTON (AP) — The House shut down Democrats' efforts Thursday to release the long-awaited ethics report into former Rep. Matt Gaetz , pushing the fate of any resolution to the yearslong investigation of sexual misconduct allegations into further uncertainty. The nearly party-line votes came after Democrats had been pressing for the findings to be published even though the Florida Republican left Congress and withdrew as President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general. Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., was the sole Republican to support the effort. Most Republicans have argued that any congressional probe into Gaetz ended when he resigned from the House. Speaker Mike Johnson also requested that the committee not publish its report, saying it would be a terrible precedent to set. While ethics reports have previously been released after a member’s resignation, it is extremely rare. Shortly before the votes took place, Rep. Sean Casten, D-Ill., who introduced one of the bills to force the release, said that if Republicans reject the release, they will have “succeeded in sweeping credible allegations of sexual misconduct under the rug.” Gaetz has repeatedly denied the claims. Earlier Thursday, the Ethics panel met to discuss the Gaetz report but made no decision, saying in a short statement that the matter is still being discussed. It's unclear now whether the document will ever see the light of day as lawmakers only have a few weeks left before a new session of Congress begins. It's the culmination of weeks of pressure on the Ethics committee's five Republicans and five Democrats who mostly work in secret as they investigate allegations of misconduct against lawmakers. The status of the Gaetz investigation became an open question last month when he abruptly resigned from Congress after Trump's announcement that he wanted his ally in the Cabinet. It is standard practice for the committee to end investigations when members of Congress depart, but the circumstances surrounding Gaetz were unusual, given his potential role in the new administration. Rep. Michael Guest, R-Miss., the committee chairman, said Wednesday that there is no longer the same urgency to release the report given that Gaetz has left Congress and stepped aside as Trump's choice to head the Justice Department. “I’ve been steadfast about that. He’s no longer a member. He is no longer going to be confirmed by the Senate because he withdrew his nomination to be the attorney general,” Guest said. The Gaetz report has also caused tensions between lawmakers on the bipartisan committee. Pennsylvania Rep. Susan Wild, the top Democrat on the panel, publicly admonished Guest last month for mischaracterizing a previous meeting to the press. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing and said last year that the Justice Department’s separate investigation against him into sex trafficking allegations involving underage girls ended without federal charges. His onetime political ally Joel Greenberg , a fellow Republican who served as the tax collector in Florida’s Seminole County, admitted as part of a plea deal with prosecutors in 2021 that he paid women and an underage girl to have sex with him and other men. The men were not identified in court documents when he pleaded guilty. Greenberg was sentenced in late 2022 to 11 years in prison. ___Just like the human population, wildlife from time to time experiences outbreaks of disease. Sometimes these outbreaks are limited. In other instances, their effect on a species population can be quite dramatic. When writing on the subject, several diseases and viruses come to mind. Avian flu, West Nile, EHD (Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease), and CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) have all taken a heavy toll on various wildlife species. Of the many diseases in recent years, White Nose Syndrome among our nation’s bat population has been one of the most devastating, completely wiping out colonies of the winged creatures that play an important role in insect numbers. It is estimated that it will take hundreds of years for some populations to bounce back if it ever occurs. Currently, concern is rising over yet another disease. This disease is called RHDV2, or Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus 2. The virus affecting both rabbits and hares is highly contagious, often causing mass die-offs of 75-to-100% of area populations of both rabbits and hares. There currently is no treatment for this disease. To make matters even worse, once it occurs it can remain in an area’s soil for months, preventing repopulation. Not yet found in Pennsylvania’s wild rabbit population, the only proven occurrence happened in a domestic facility in Uniontown, Fayette County. While at this time the disease is thought to cause no issues for humans, other rabbit and hare diseases such as tularemia or plague can cause serious illness or even death in humans that come into contact with infected animals. To stay on top of the possibility of RHDV2 becoming established in our state, the Pa. Game Commission asks anyone finding two or more dead rabbits in an area to contact the agency. It is simple, just phone 1-833-PGC-WILD or use the online reporting tool at https://www.pgcapps.pa.gov/WHS . Do not handle suspected rabbits or allow pets to come into contact with them. Domestic hare and rabbit owners with concerns can contact the state Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal Health at 717-722-2852, option 1. Please do your part to monitor and prevent this terrible disease from spreading into our wild hare and rabbit populations. The damage could be irreversible.

Adcetera's creative partnership with Roborock sends the S8 MaxV Ultra into space HOUSTON , Dec. 23, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Adcetera, a Houston -based digital marketing agency, announces the launch of a historic video campaign in partnership with Roborock , one of the world's leading robot vacuum brands. The campaign, centered around the theme "Beyond Limits," culminated in the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra being launched 120,000 feet above the Earth, making it the first robot vacuum in space. When Roborock began searching for an agency to develop a video campaign around their hashtag, #BeyondLimits, Adcetera's creatives stepped in to develop a narrative that could bring those two words to life. The resulting social media campaign features three scientists frustrated by outdated cleaning tools. Their solution? Invent the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra. After putting the vacuum through a series of "Beyond Limits" tests, the scientists take it one step further and launch it into space. The collaboration included partnering with Sent into Space, a UK-based company specializing in sending objects into the upper stratosphere. On September 17, 2024 , the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra successfully launched from Sheffield, UK , reaching 120,000 feet above Earth and enduring extreme temperatures, thus proving the product's endurance and innovation. The project involved building a unique laboratory set, sourcing talent and hundreds of props, a post-production that included multiple special effects, and coordinating an international space launch — all executed with precision to ensure the project stayed on schedule, within budget, and within scope.
