The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, Monday, underlined attitudinal change amongst teachers and administrators as one of the key factors that would bring about the required quality in the Nigerian education system. Dr Bobboyi made the charge in Kano, Monday, during he flag-off of an intensive training for teachers of smart schools organised by UBEC in collaboration with the National Teachers Institute (NTI). He stated that attitudinal change was especially necessary in smart schools across the country where the federal government had invested heavily to ensure that modern educational technologies, which are widely used around the world, are accessible to learners in Nigeria at the basic education level so as to bring Nigerian learners in line with their international counterparts. In the same vein, the director general of the NTI, Professor Musa Garba Maitafsir, stated the importance of training teachers on attitudinal change and expressed confidence in the institution’s ability to train teachers across the country. Professor Maitafsir further assured the executive secretary of UBEC of NTI’s readiness to train additional teachers. On his part, the national coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Professor Bashir Galadanci, while delivering welcome address at the flag-off event, outlined the goals of the smart schools initiative and stated the need for attitudinal change on the part of all administrators and teachers in order to ensure the success of the initiative. He emphasised the efforts and commitment in establishing the schools, which aims to advance the overall development of the education sector as demonstrated by the commission under the leadership of Dr. Hamid Bobboyi. The training locations included Kano, Lafia, Ibadan and Yola.

Modine stock soars to all-time high of $141.78 amid robust growthFormer New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is solidifying his standing as a pro-Israel politician with the New York City mayoral race just months away. Cuomo joined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's legal team, which is fighting war crime charges from the International Criminal Court, and recently called out the New York Times for its coverage of the murder of a Dubai rabbi. The tactics could be a plan from Cuomo to garner support from the Jewish and pro-Israel community in New York City in a bid to lead the Big Apple, though he'd have to fight through a crowded Democratic field. When asked about Cuomo's plans, a spokesperson didn't deny he would run for mayor and touted his past accomplishments. “This is all premature," Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi told the Washington Examiner. "But New Yorkers know it was Governor Cuomo who raised wages for hundreds of thousands of workers, codified Roe v. Wade into state law before the Supreme Court overturned it, put the strongest gun protections, and paid family leave laws in the nation on the books and built projects previously declared impossible, such as the Moynihan train station, the new LaGuardia and JFK airport, the Second Avenue subway and the Kosciuszko Bridge, all while cutting taxes and reining in spending.” Cuomo spoke at an event for the National Committee for the Advancement of Jewish Education on Sunday. "This is the moment that counts," he said. "This is the moment that is going to be in the history books. ... This is the moment that true friends stand up, shoulder to shoulder, and fight for the state of Israel." According to Jewish Insider, some Jewish leaders and political observers believe Cuomo will run for mayor. Leon Goldberg, an Orthodox business leader in Brooklyn and an ally of Mayor Eric Adams, told the outlet he would “seriously” consider looking at Cuomo if he decided to enter the race. “He’s probably the only normal person there,” he said. Past speculation has been that Cuomo would only enter the race if Adams, who Cuomo considers a friend, declines to run for reelection or resigns under the weight of his corruption charges. However, it's possible that time is running out for Cuomo. The Democratic primary is held in June, about six months from now, and the field of Democrats aiming for Adams's office continues to grow. At least six Democrats, including city comptroller Brad Lander and former city comptroller Scott Stringer, will run in June's primary. Adams has already said he will run for reelection, and his corruption case appears to be heading in the right direction with the election of Donald Trump. Adams has been more friendly to Trump than most Democrats, and Trump appointed a new Southern District of New York attorney. But if Cuomo runs along with Adams, they could split the moderate and pro-Israel vote, allowing a challenger like progressive Lander to triumph, an outcome neither likely wants. A rightward shift in the city, indicated by larger vote shares for Trump in the presidential election, is good for Adams and Cuomo. But both have sustained enough controversy to damage their respective hopes. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER Whether that's enough for voters to shy away from them is another story, but Cuomo would be a major contender if he decided to enter the mayoral race. His name recognition alone dwarfs most contenders outside of Adams. Cuomo's entry into the race could reflect a larger shift in New York City politics. Rep.-elect George Latimer defeated Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) in New York's 16th congressional District, riding his pro-Israel sentiment to a decisive victory over the skeptical-on-Israel Bowman.

The latest development came hours after thousands of his supporters, defying government warnings, broke through a barrier of shipping containers blocking off Islamabad and entered a high-security zone, where they clashed with security forces, facing tear gas shelling, mass detentions and gunfire. Tension has been high in Islamabad since Sunday when supporters of the former PM began a “long march” from the restive north-west to demand his release. Khan has been in a prison for more than a year and faces more than 150 criminal cases that his party says are politically motivated. Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, led the protest, but she fled as police pushed back against demonstrators. Hundreds of Khan’s supporters are being arrested in the ongoing night-time operation. Interior minister Mohsin Naqvi told reporters that the Red Zone, which houses government buildings and embassies, and the surrounding areas have been cleared. Leaders from Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, or PTI, have also fled the protest site. Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan’s army took control of D-Chowk, a large square in the Red Zone, where visiting Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is staying. Since Monday, Mr Naqvi had threatened that security forces would use live fire if protesters fired weapons at them. “We have now authorised the police to respond as necessary,” Mr Naqvi said Tuesday while visiting the square. Before the operation began, protester Shahzor Ali said people had taken to the streets because Khan had called for them. “We will stay here until Khan joins us. He will decide what to do next,” Mr Ali said. Protester Fareeda Bibi, who is not related to Khan’s wife, said people have suffered greatly for the last two years. “We have really suffered for the last two years, whether it is economically, politically or socially. We have been ruined. I have not seen such a Pakistan in my life,” she said. Authorities have struggled to contain the protest-related violence. Six people, including four members of the security services, were killed when a vehicle rammed them on a street overnight into Tuesday. A police officer died in a separate incident. Dozens of Khan supporters beat a videographer covering the protest for the Associated Press and took his camera. He sustained head injuries and was treated in hospital. By Tuesday afternoon, fresh waves of protesters made their way unopposed to their final destination in the Red Zone. Mr Naqvi said Khan’s party had rejected a government offer to rally on the outskirts of the city. Information minister Atta Tarar warned there would be a severe government reaction to the violence. The government says only the courts can order Khan’s release. He was ousted in 2022 through a no-confidence vote in Parliament. In a bid to foil the unrest, police have arrested more than 4,000 Khan supporters since Friday and suspended mobile and internet services in some parts of the country. Messaging platforms were also experiencing severe disruption in the capital. Khan’s party relies heavily on social media and uses messaging platforms such as WhatsApp to share information, including details of events. The X platform, which is banned in Pakistan, is no longer accessible, even with a VPN. Last Thursday, a court prohibited rallies in the capital and Mr Naqvi said anyone violating the ban would be arrested. Travel between Islamabad and other cities has become nearly impossible because of shipping containers blocking the roads. All education institutions remain closed.

FARGO — For the third year in a row the West Fargo Sheyenne Mustangs are headed to the North Dakota Class A volleyball state championship. The East Region No. 1-seeded Mustangs defeated the East Region No. 3 Fargo Shanley 25-11, 25-17, 15-25 and 26-24 in the Class A semifinals Friday at the Fargodome. "It's so special to me," said Sheyenne senior outside hitter Alexa Killoran. "Coming back as a senior, it just means so much more." The two-time defending state champion Mustangs will battle West Region No. 1 Bismarck Century in the title match at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. Century defeated West Region No. 3 Bismarck Legacy in three sets in Friday's other semifinal. Century is a nine-time state champion and was going for its own three-peat in 2022 when Sheyenne defeated the Patriots in five sets for the Mustangs' first state title. Sheyenne head coach Leah Newton said that, as with the Mustangs' other state title-appearing teams, it's been rewarding to see the growth of this team's players throughout the season. "You want it so bad for them," Newton said. "The fact they were able to fight and make that happen is pretty cool." The Mustangs fended off a fourth-set push from the Deacons, who were trying to force a fifth set. Both teams never led by more than two points. Tied at 24-24, Sheyenne scored back-to-back points, with right-side hitter Cora Metcalf delivering the match-winning kill. Killoran said the team focused on remaining calm, but needed to be ready for whatever was thrown its way. "We said, 'Just pretend the score is 0-0,' " Killoran said. "We wanted to come out aggressive every single time the ball was served or touched. We wanted to have that same intensity." The Mustangs erupted offensively in the first set to lead 13-1. Libero Baylor Dinger served three straight aces en route to Killoran's set-sealing kill. Sheyenne trailed throughout the first half of the second set, but a seven-point run turned the tides and the Mustangs gained control at 19-13. Sheyenne closed out the set with a 4-0 run, capped by outside hitter Abby Smithoff's kill. Shanley countered in the third set. Already leading by five, the Deacons rattled off eight-straight points to go ahead 18-6. Outside hitter Katelyn Ommen had multiple kills and an ace in the set. Mustangs middle hitter Reilly Bryant notched a team-high seven kills. Metcalf had five kills and seven blocks, and Dinger aced five serves. Makayla Amundson ended with 19 set assists and Marley Budeau had 18 assists. "We came out with a fiery attitude," Newton said. Ommen led the the Deacons with nine kills, three blocks and 22 digs. Clara Robin and Megan Dietz both had six kills. Ella Stimpson had 26 set assists and 18 digs, and Carly Hulstein had four kills and three blocks. Shanley will face off against Bismarck Legacy in the third-place contest at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. "We're going to go hard (Saturday) and we're going to finish strong," said Deacons head coach Taylor Preston. The Mustangs remain poised for what the championship match will bring, Newton said. "We're going to have to play tough team ball and be ready," Newton said. "(The team we play) is going to be wanting it just as bad as us." Killoran added: "We need to come out confident and aggressive. Serve the ball super aggressive and just have faith in ourselves and our teammates."NDP won’t support Liberal $250 rebate plan unless eligibility expanded: SinghSen.
