(AP) — Nico Iamaleava threw for 209 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 10 Tennessee to a 56-0 victory over UTEP on Saturday. The Volunteers (9-2) overcame a sluggish start to roll up the impressive win. Both teams were scoreless in the first quarter, but Tennessee found its rhythm. Grad student receiver Bru McCoy, who hadn't caught a touchdown pass this season, had two. Peyton Lewis also ran for two scores. Tennessee's defensive line, which had no sacks in last week's loss to Georgia, had three against the Miners. UTEP (2-9) struggled with two missed field goals and three turnovers. Tennessee's offense came alive with 28 points in the second quarter. In the final four drives of the quarter, Iamaleava completed 11 of 12 passes for 146 yards and touchdowns to Squirrel White, Ethan Davis and McCoy. UTEP was the dominant team in the first quarter. Tennessee managed just 37 offensive yards and, thanks to an interception near the end zone and a missed field goal by the Miners, both teams were scoreless after 15 minutes. POLL IMPLICATIONS Tennessee’s convincing victory, coupled with losses by Mississippi and Indiana, should put the Volunteers in a good position when the next College Football Playoff poll is released. The Vols were ranked No. 11 going into this week’s games. THE TAKEAWAY UTEP: The Miners will head into a very winnable game against New Mexico State having won two of their last five games. First-year coach Scotty Walden will try to build on that success in the offseason to help enhance his roster. Tennessee: Even a lopsided win won’t carry much weight where it means the most — in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Vols will have to rely on a convincing win against Vanderbilt next week, a team that has shown a lot of improvement this season, to help their standing for those coveted spots. UP NEXT UTEP: The Miners will finish their season at New Mexico State Saturday. Tennessee: The Vols will finish their regular season at Vanderbilt next Saturday. White House: 3 Americans held for years in China have been releasedThe Seattle Seahawks placed leading rusher Kenneth Walker III on injured reserve due to an ankle injury and signed George Holani off the practice squad on Thursday afternoon. Walker had been ruled out earlier in the day ahead of Thursday's game against the host Chicago Bears. He returned from a two-game absence due to an ailing calf on Sunday before injuring his ankle in the Seahawks' 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Zach Charbonnet is set to shoulder the load in the backfield for the Seahawks (8-7), who have lost two in a row heading into Thursday's game against the Bears (4-11). Seattle is in a must-win situation. Even if the Seahawks can top Chicago and beat the Los Angeles Rams in Week 18, they still might miss out on the postseason because of the strength-of-victory tiebreaker. Walker, 24, leads Seattle in carries (153) and rushing yards (573) to go along with seven rushing touchdowns. Charbonnet, 23, has a team-best eight rushing touchdowns to go along with 106 carries for 453 yards. Holani, who turned 25 on Dec. 16, has three carries for 10 yards in three games this season. He is an undrafted rookie out of Boise State. The Seahawks also ruled out tight end Brady Russell (foot) and safety K'Von Wallace (ankle) for Thursday's game. Cornerback Artie Burns was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for the contest. The Bears will be without defensive backs Elijah Hicks (ankle/foot) and Tarvarius Moore (knee), running back Travis Homer (hamstring) and offensive lineman Teven Jenkins (calf). --Field Level Media

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistani security forces launched an operation Tuesday night to disperse supporters of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan who had gathered in the capital to demand his release from prison. The latest development came hours after thousands of Khan supporters, defying government warnings, broke through a barrier of shipping containers blocking off Islamabad and entered a high-security zone, where they clashed with security forces, facing tear gas shelling, mass detentions and gunfire. Tension has been high in Islamabad since Sunday when supporters of the former prime minister began a “long march” from the restive northwest to demand his release. Khan has been in a prison for over a year and faces more than 150 criminal cases that his party says are politically motivated. Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, led the protest, but she fled as police pushed back against demonstrators. Hundreds of Khan’s supporters are being arrested in the ongoing nighttime operation, and police are also seeking to arrest Bibi. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told reporters that the Red Zone, which houses government buildings and embassies, and the surrounding areas have been cleared. Leaders from Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, or PTI, have also fled the protest site. Earlier Tuesday, Pakistan’s army took control of D-Chowk, a large square in the Red Zone, where visiting Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is staying. Since Monday, Naqvi had threatened that security forces would use live fire if protesters fired weapons at them. “We have now authorized the police to respond as necessary,” Naqvi said Tuesday while visiting the square. Before the operation began, protester Shahzor Ali said people had taken to the streets because Khan had called for them. “We will stay here until Khan joins us. He will decide what to do next,” Ali said. “If they fire bullets again, we will respond with bullets,” he said. Protester Fareeda Bibi, who is not related to Khan’s wife, said people have suffered greatly for the last two years. “We have really suffered for the last two years, whether it is economically, politically or socially. We have been ruined. I have not seen such a Pakistan in my life,” she said. Authorities have struggled to contain the protest-related violence. Six people, including four members of the security services, were killed when a vehicle rammed them on a street overnight into Tuesday. A police officer died in a separate incident. Dozens of Khan supporters beat a videographer covering the protest for The Associated Press and took his camera. He sustained head injuries and was treated in a hospital. By Tuesday afternoon, fresh waves of protesters made their way unopposed to their final destination in the Red Zone. Most demonstrators had the flag of Khan’s party around their shoulders or wore its tricolors on accessories. Naqvi said Khan’s party had rejected a government offer to rally on the outskirts of the city. Information Minister Atta Tarar warned there would be a severe government reaction to the violence. He said the government did not want Bushra Bibi to achieve her goal of freeing Khan. “She wants bodies falling to the ground. She wants bloodshed,” he said. The government says only the courts can order Khan’s release. He was ousted in 2022 through a no-confidence vote in Parliament. In a bid to foil the unrest, police have arrested more than 4,000 Khan supporters since Friday and suspended mobile and internet services in some parts of the country. Messaging platforms were also experiencing severe disruption in the capital. Khan’s party relies heavily on social media and uses messaging platforms such as WhatsApp to share information, including details of events. The X platform, which is banned in Pakistan, is no longer accessible, even with a VPN. Last Thursday, a court prohibited rallies in the capital and Naqvi said anyone violating the ban would be arrested. Travel between Islamabad and other cities has become nearly impossible because of shipping containers blocking the roads. All education institutions remain closed. Pakistan's Stock Exchange lost more than $1.7 billion Tuesday due to rising political tensions, according to economist Mohammed Sohail from Topline Securities. Kwadwo Baah was sent off after the final whistle following a feisty clash at Vicarage Road. Rocco Vata netted a stoppage-time penalty for the hosts to hand Watford a dramatic 2-1 win. Following wild celebrations, Tom Cleverley 's men saw out the game to head back into the Championship playoff places. Baah - who had been booked in the first half - headed towards the Portsmouth away support after the final whistle. He was filmed taunting the video fans, throwing out some moves from video game Fortnite in front of a packed contingent from the South Coast. After his teammates tried and failed to pull Baah away, Pompey's Terry Devlin charged over to confront the German. Referee Geoff Eltringham brandished the red card, halting the jiving Baah in his tracks. But plenty felt the punishment was overly harsh, with a host of supporters defending the striker on social media. One Watford fan wrote on X: "Was receiving stick from Pompey all of the first half, had every right to go and give some back." FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS Another said: "Why has he actually been sent off?? He did nothing wrong!!" While a third added: "Kwadwo Baah getting sent off after the FT whistle for taunting Portsmouth fans and doing the Fortnite dance in front of them. This boy is going straight to the top." And a fourth laughed: "To be fair he ran from the halfway line, he was hardly just walking past." While Watford's official X account tweeted: "Baah giving it back to the away end." Cleverley's Hornets are back in the top sixth thanks to the late Boxing Day victory. Watford have lost just two of their last ten games across all competitions. Their success has been built on making Vicarage Road a fortress - but the former Man Utd star wants his players to turn things around on the road. Cleverley said in the build-up to the clash: "At home we've suffered setbacks and responded to them, but away from home we just don't show the same character or mindset to come back from any deficits. "I would never criticise my players for a technical mistake but when I see players shying away from wanting to receive the ball, then we've got a real issue. "To get to the level we want to get to we can't just do it in the home games - we have to do it in the toughest environments. "At the minute we're playing like a team who want to flip a coin and finish between fifth and 10th rather than really grab our own destiny by the scruff of the neck."

Luigi Mangione's Sweater Sells Out at Nordstrom Retailers are experiencing a boom in sales of Mangione-related merchandise. A burgundy Merino crewneck sweater worn by Mangione during his court appearance sold out at Nordstrom within a day, leading the retailer to announce plans to restock. The $120 sweater gained viral fame after courtroom photos of Mangione circulated online. Social media buzz has been a major driver behind the unexpected demand. Luigi Mangione's Peak Design Backpack Interest in Mangione's accessories has also skyrocketed, particularly his Peak Design Everyday Backpack V1. Since news of the shooting broke, searches for the discontinued model have surged, drawing attention to the cult-like fascination surrounding the case. "We have not provided customer information to the police and would only do so under a subpoena," CEO Peter Dering told The Verge . He clarified that the V1 backpacks lack serial numbers, a feature introduced only in V2 models. Despite these reassurances, some social media users accused the company of "snitching" after Dering admitted to sharing details about the bag with law enforcement. The backlash highlights growing public sensitivity to privacy concerns and corporate involvement in legal matters. What People Are Saying @NLCONSNL, an Internet user, on X: "It is a horror story for the relatives of the CEO. Okwukwu said Tinubu should order Kanu’s release because his matter is beyond the trial court. In an open letter addressed to President Tinubu, Okwukwu said the president should release Kanu under any condition. The letter reads: “I write this open letter to Your Excellency as a patriot and as someone who wishes your administration to succeed. “Having observed your stellar efforts to direct the difficult affairs of the state and your commitment to the stability of the nation, I noticed one constant factor that will help in no small measure in assuring your success and a historic tenure. “That one factor is the matter of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, whose continued detention is undoubtedly convulsing the Southeast, in particular, and the Nigerian polity in general. “I am aware that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s matter is still pending trial in court. But the question is this: Is trial the only way forward in resolving his matter? With due respect, I do not think so. “Mazi Kanu’s matter is beyond the province of the courts because it is more of a political issue than a legal issue for the judiciary. As such, it lies within the executive prerogatives of the office of the President to exercise sound presidential discretion in bringing immediate closure to the matter, once and for all. “Your Excellency, the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu bears more advantages than disadvantages, some of which are peace and tranquillity will return to Southeast and the law enforcement resources of the nation currently deployed to the Southeast will be freed and redeployed to fight more serious crimes like banditry and terrorism in Northern Nigeria. “For the above reasons, I strongly and respectfully urge Your Excellency, without further ado, direct that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu be released unconditionally or under some other arrangements as Your Excellency may deem proper and fit in the circumstances of the matter. “While thanking Your Excellency for your kind and prompt considerations, please be assured of my abiding regards for your high office.” Related Topics: Nnamdi Kanu Ohanaeze Tinubu Don't Miss 30% of Nigerian women experience gender-based violence – Sulaiman-Ibrahim You may like Improved funding for National Space Programme fundamental to economic wellbeing – Tinubu to NASS Umahi explains why President Tinubu prioritises legacy projects Tinubu: Northern youths give ACF 7 days to lift suspension on chairman, Osuman Judge’s absence stalls Nnamdi Kanu’s N50bn suit against Nigerian Govt Tinubu a reformer, not accidental president – Presidency replies Bishop Kukah Tinubu: Special Adviser on nothing – Atiku’s aide attacks Daniel Bwala over redesignation Advertise About Us Contact Us Privacy-Policy Terms Copyright © Daily Post Media Ltd ISTANBUL Scientists in China are claiming to have designed a sunscreen that can reduce body temperatures by up to six degrees Celsius, the Daily South China Morning Post said Thursday. The sunscreen has been designed to protect the skin as climate change has resulted in higher temperatures around the world, according to research by Beijing-based Tsinghua University. “We prepared a radiative cooling sunscreen that can not only significantly reduce the skin temperature but also protects the skin from being harmed by the ultra violet radiation,” according to the research. The product has “promising commercial potential in the sunscreen market,” it added. Zhang Rufan, one of the researchers, said: “Humans must adapt as climate change leads to more extreme weather, but adjusting to heat is generally more challenging than dealing with cold.” “We can wear thick clothing to stay warm in freezing temperatures. But in extreme heat higher than 50 degrees Celsius (122 Fahrenheit), outdoor workers like transport police, road workers and farmers have to cope with severe conditions that can lead to heat stress, exhaustion or death,” said Zhang, according to the South China Morning Post. “They need effective cooling methods and skin protection.”
