Longtime United States Women's National Team goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher announced her retirement from international soccer on Monday. Naeher is currently in London as the Americans prepare for games against England on Nov. 30 and the Netherlands on Dec. 3. It will mark the final matches of her 11-year senior international career. Naeher, 36, became the starting goalie in 2017 and was in net for two Women's World Cups (2015, 2019) and two Olympics (2021, 2024). The U.S. won the World Cup in 2019 and took gold in the 2024 Olympics. In 2023, the USWNT underachieved at the World Cup and were ousted in the round of 16 by Sweden. But in the shootout, Naeher became the first goalkeeper to take and make a penalty kick in Women's World Cup history. "Having the opportunity to be a part of the USWNT for the past 15 years has been the greatest honor," Naeher wrote on Instagram. "When I began this journey, I never could have imagined where it would take me, and now I find myself so grateful for all the incredible teammates that I have shared the field with; teammates that have turned into lifelong friends. ... "This has been a special team to be a part of and I am beyond proud of what we have achieved both on and off the field. The memories I have made over the years will last me a lifetime. I know one chapter is ending, but I am so excited to continue to see the growth of this team going forward and what more they can accomplish." Naeher will play for the Chicago Stars of the NWSL in 2025 -- which will mark her ninth season with the club and 12th in the league. Naeher ranks third in USWNT history with 88 wins and 68 shutouts. Hope Solo is the all-time leader with 153 and 102, respectively. Briana Scurry (135, 72) ranks second. Naeher has an 88-6-14 record in international play. --Field Level MediaOTTAWA — The union representing rank-and-file Mounties is welcoming a federal plan to spend $1.3 billion to bolster border security and ensure the integrity of the immigration system. In its fall economic update Monday, the Liberal government said it would invest in cutting-edge technology for law enforcement, so that only people who are eligible to remain in Canada do so. The money, to be spread over six fiscal years, is earmarked for the RCMP, Public Safety Canada, the Canada Border Services Agency and the cyberspies at the Communications Security Establishment. RCMP members enforce laws between official points of entry and investigate criminal activities related to the border. National Police Federation president Brian Sauvé says members have been protecting the border with limited resources, and the new money will allow them to continue delivering on their mandate. Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc is expected to join other ministers this afternoon to provide more details on the plan. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 17, 2024. Jim Bronskill, The Canadian PressFew would argue that Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty is the top running back in the 2025 NFL Draft class and the country. Jeanty currently leads the NCAA in rushing yards (1,893) and rushing touchdowns (26), and he’s tied for the second-most yards per carry (7.4) of all rushers with 100 or more carries. His draft stock is sky high as he’s projected to go somewhere in the first round in the 2025 draft, and some draft analysts even view him as a fringe top-10 prospect. Jeanty likely won’t have to wait long to hear his name called, and Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling has the 20-year-old tailback going to the Minnesota Vikings in his latest first-round mock draft. “There are big needs on defense, but if Jeanty is still on the board here, it might be too hard for the Vikings to pass him up,” Easterling wrote. “They don't have a stud back to take the torch from aging veteran Aaron Jones, and Jeanty is a top-10 talent who is putting up historic numbers this season. He's a complete back with a three-down skill set who excels at playing through contact and turning short runs into long touchdowns.” Marco Garcia-Imagn Images Most mock drafters believe the Dallas Cowboys will scoop Jeanty up with their first-round selection, but they have so many needs, they could opt to address one of them first and use a later pick on a running back. The Vikings actually make quite a bit of sense as a landing spot for Jeanty given their struggles to run the ball over the last two seasons. Free-agent addition Aaron Jones has been decent this year, but he’s averaging just 4.4 yards per carry and 69.2 yards per game, and he’ll be a free agent again at the end of the season. Not to mention the Vikings has only five rushing touchdowns as a team. Minnesota’s passing game features Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson, and the addition of a bell-cow back like Jeanty could push it over the top. Related: 2025 NFL Mock Draft: How Many QBs Will Crack the Top 10?
