The NBA agent carousel continues to spin. Will Guillory of The Athletic reports this week that New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram has decided to part ways with his agency. Ingram is dropping Excel Sports and will seek new representation. The 27-year-old Ingram, a one-time NBA All-Star, is having another standout year for the Pelicans, whom he has been with since 2019. Ingram is currently averaging 22.9 points (a team high), 5.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists a game. But he is in the final year of his contract and notably failed to reach agreement with New Orleans on an extension over the offseason. That sets Ingram up to become an unrestricted free agent next summer (though the Pelicans still have until June 30 to extend him). As a result, New Orleans might consider trading Ingram ahead of the February deadline, and there are already some notable possible suitors that have emerged for him . The news of Ingram switching agents is also notable because of the timing. Over the weekend, we just heard that one of his All-Star teammates was changing representation as well . Stock market today: Wall Street ends mixed after a bumpy weekShare A new Department of Government Efficiency will be led by Trump's close allies A new Department of Government Efficiency will be led by Trump's close allies Can Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy turn government into something sleek? Can Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy turn government into something sleek? Musk and others should remember that the US government is not a startup In the grand theatre of US politics, a new act has taken the stage, and it's one that could either be a masterclass in efficiency or a huge payday for entrepreneurs wanting to sell eggs to angry mobs. The Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, will be led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. They have promised to slice through the government's wasteful spending and regulations by employing the Argentine President Javier Milei's signature chainsaw approach. But will this be a revolution, where '¡AFUERA!' becomes the battle cry of a generation of policymakers within the world's most important government or just another fanciful idea falling flat on its face? While the idea of the DOGE spearheaded by the dynamic duo of Musk and Ramaswamy has its allure, promising a future where the US government operates with the efficiency of a well-oiled machine, I remain sceptical. Trump's claim of an 'unprecedented and powerful mandate' could indeed legitimise any wacky or outlandish move his administration proposes. Such a mandate might be the jet fuel needed to propel major reforms with a speed that Washington has seldom seen before. With Musk's tech wizardry and Ramaswamy's business acumen, DOGE may offer more than just a cost-cutting avenue; it could very well serve as America's economic and bureaucratic 'Zeitenwende'. But let's not kid ourselves. The political landscape of America, especially DC, isn't exactly a machine with many hot swappable components. The idea of significant change often runs into the quagmire of political resistance. Congress, state governments, and the courts are not... Jacob Farley
Gippsland South MP Danny O’Brien has been appointed leader of the Victorian Nationals, replacing long-time leader Peter Walsh, who helmed the party for 10 years. The change in leadership was confirmed at a Nationals party room meeting at state parliament on Tuesday morning. Danny O’Brien is the Victorian Nationals’ new leader. In a statement, the Nationals said O’Brien was elected unopposed after Walsh recently advised the party room he would step down. Kealy will continue as deputy leader. “It is the greatest honour to have been elected as leader of the Nationals,” O’Brien said. “For over 100 years, the Nationals have served the interests of rural and regional Victoria. That will not change. “It remains our singular focus as the only party solely dedicated to serving the interests of the 25 per cent of the population who live outside the metropolitan area.” Emma Kealy will remain the party’s deputy leader. Credit: Eddie Jim Kealy said the Nationals had a “formidable” team of champions in the parliament. “I look forward to continuing my role in leadership, working with Danny, our MPs and all our members and supporters who are fighting together for a fair deal for regional Victorians,” she said. O’Brien, a former journalist, political staffer and policy adviser, has been the Coalition’s spokesman for roads, liquor and gambling regulation since the 2022 state election. Walsh, who turned 70 in January, has led the Victorian Nationals since December 2014. The member for Swan Hill was first elected in 2002 and elevated to a ministerial appointment in 2010. They won back Mildura, Shepparton and Morwell from independent candidates. Two Nationals sources, speaking anonymously to detail private discussions, told The Age the halfway point of term was an ideal time for any leadership transition in the party, giving the new leader two years to build up their profile and grow into the role.
