SEVEN of Scotland's popular walking routes has been named among the most beautiful winter trails across the UK. Experts at BBC Countryfile compiled a list of the 30 best winter landscapes across Britain to create their latest walking guide. So the experts broke down the 30 walks by region and considered everything from locations with frozen lakes and frosted hills to the snowy, twinkling forests. They also added details on its total distance as well as how long it takes to complete each one and their difficulty levels. The seven best walks in Scotland included in the guide are the following. The route, which is 3.1 miles (5.1km) long, takes around an hour and a half to complete and is described as being "easy" in terms of difficulty. The loch is nestled along the trees of Glenmore Forest Park which has incredible views of the Cairngorms mountains. The journey is a favourite among nature lovers, with the woods home to a host of animals including golden eagles, red squirrels, pine martens, badgers and deer. Discover the Scenic Arran Coastal Way Glenfinnan, Highland The route along Glenfinnan, also in the Highlands, is one of the most challenging walks on the list and can take around six hours to complete. It spans 10.5 miles (17km), but it is worth every step with its gorgeous views and dramatic landscapes. Advertisement It starts at the Glenfinnan Visitor Centre - which has a shop, toilets, café and parking - and passes along Loch Shiel to the mountain pass of Bealach a’Chaorainn. Describing the journey, the experts at BBC Countryfile said: "Gothic in style, the Church of St Mary and St Finnan stands like a stoical watchman over the mountain-flanked waters of Loch Shiel, surely one of Britain’s most enchanting landscapes. "In winter, as day breaks from a cloudless night, the glen is particularly magical. "Frost envelops everything: the pine trees, the mountain ridges, the church’s pitched roof. It dusts frozen puddles, crunches beneath feet and petrifies plants . Advertisement "The Church of St Mary and St Finnan, built between 1870 and 1872, was designed by architect Edward Welby Pugin, son of one of the greatest British architects, designers and writers of the 19th century Augustus Welby Pugin." Bennachie, Aberdeenshire Third on the list is the five-and-a-half-mile (8.9km) journey in the Bennachie Hills near Inverurie in Aberdeenshire. Described as being of moderate difficulty, it takes around three and a half hours to complete. Advertisement It was singled out for being "a prominent prospect" for walkers as they make their way through the hills and river valleys of Deeside. Incredible scenery can be seen for miles along the trail, with Bennachie’s twin tops of Oxen Craig and Mither Tap providing even better views. The two tops of the hills are connected by a plateau that is described as being "wild and wonderful". And the experts say this is where "meadow pipits, lapwings and red grouse thrive.". Advertisement Visitors can also visit the remains of a Pictish hill fort along the way. 7 The route leading to Steall Falls in Glen Nevis was singled out Credit: Alamy Steall Falls and Glen Nevis, Highland The route that leads to a waterfall in the Highlands that features in the Harry Potter films is also mentioned in the guide as being one of the best walks in Scotland this winter. Steall Falls can be found tumbling down the rocks into a wide, open scenic valley in Glen Nevis near Fort William, in the Highlands, close to Ben Nevis. Advertisement And at a staggering 393ft (120m) tall, it towers over Niagara Falls which stands at around 190ft in height. Those who hike to see it say the journey takes them back to nature as the area was owned by the John Muir Trust. The whole low-level trail is described as being of moderate difficulty, and covers two miles (3.2km), taking around an hour and a half to complete. The guide states: "The walk through the dramatic Nevis Gorge that really packs a punch and provides an unforgettable aural and visual experience. Advertisement "Sections of the path can be rocky and slippery but with a little care this is a superb walk." 7 Ben Lomond also impressed the experts Credit: Alamy Ben Lomond, Argyll and Bute Ben Lomond has also made the guide for being the most often climbed Munro in Scotland. The 7.6 mile (12.3km) hike is favoured by hillwalkers because it has a direct ascent to the 974 summit. Advertisement However, it is still described as being a challenging climb and can take around five to six hours to complete. The experts say: "Climb north up the tourist path from Rowardennan. "Then either retrace your ascent route or take the rougher return along Ptarmigan Ridge to the west. "It is a tall hill, so bring clothing and supplies for any eventuality." Adventure tour guides Explore Worldwide conducted new research to find which hikes around the globe are the most congested and which trails offer a quieter trekking experience. From the alpine crossings of Tongariro in New Zealand to coastal routes like the West Coast Trail in Canada , the study has highlighted the most popular trails worldwide. It based its figures on the number of Instagram posts uploaded per kilometre of trail. The West Highland Way - Scotland's first officially designated long-distance walking path - is the ninth busiest trail in the world. The 96-mile route begins just outside Glasgow at the marker in Milngavie town centre in East Dunbartonshire and finished in the Highlands town on Fort William . Popular with tourists from America and Canada, the trek takes an average of seven days taking them through the peaks and valleys around Conic Hill, Loch Lomond, the Rannoch Moor, Devil 's Staircase, Kinlochleven and finishing up in the Lochaber town. In 2023, 47,576 people were recorded as walking the route, a year-on-year rise since the pandemic , making it the busiest path in Scotland. Explore Worldwide said social media users on the trail left 998 Instagram posts per kilometre of trail. Glencoe Lochan, Highland Glencoe Lochan in the Highlands sits in one of the most picturesque settings across Scotland. The serene lochan was actually created in the 19th century by Lord Strathcona to remind his Canadian wife of her previous home in British Columbia. It is now a popular tourist destination for those interested in hiking and the outdoors, set in the centre of the woodland, surrounded by lofty conifers and rugged mountains. It's the most famous glen in the country and the incredible scenery has been featured in films like Harry Potter . Divisive rhetoric based on religion big challenge for constitutional ideal of fraternity SC judgePressure is on the Albanese government to make headway on its long list of stalled legislation before the federal election. Housing will be back in spotlight during the final sitting week of 2024, with the Help to Buy government equity scheme and incentives for build-to-rent to be brought to a final vote in the Senate. The two housing bills have struggled to attract the support of the opposition or the Greens, with Labor knocking back fresh demands from the latter. Central to the Greens' updated position is funding for 25,000 "shovel-ready" homes not given the go-ahead under the first round of the Housing Australia Future Fund. Labor insists the demand is unlawful and would result in the construction of million-dollar homes that are not value for money. Greens housing spokesman Max Chandler-Mather said his party had designed "a compromise offer that is popular, achievable and easy to accept, it requires no new legislation and sits broadly within government policy". With 30 or so bills still before the parliament, the government has been ramping up pressure on the Greens and the coalition to co-operate. "This is a week where we will see the colour of the eyes of Peter Dutton and the Greens party," Employment Minister Murray Watt told reporters on Sunday. A friendless crackdown on misinformation and disinformation has been shelved and gambling reforms have been pushed into next year. Though the government is expecting wins on its aged care reforms and its social media age limit, with the former expected to attract opposition support. Under world-first legislation, Australians younger than 16 will be banned from social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). Labor will also be spruiking its Future Made in Australia plan, with its hydrogen and critical minerals production tax incentives to be introduced to parliament on Monday. Economic management will likely get some airtime after monthly inflation figures are released on Wednesday, with headline inflation expected to once again land within the Reserve Bank of Australia's target band. But with the central bank's preferred underlying gauge - stripped of the volatility inflicting the headline number - likely to remain above the two-three per cent band, keenly-anticipated interest rate cuts are likely to stay on ice. The federal election is due to be held by May 17.
Advertisement Warren Buffett said he would gift Berkshire stock worth $1.2 billion to family foundations. The investor also wrote a mini letter to shareholders running to almost 1,500 words. Buffett spoke about his estate planning, his children, his luck in life, and philanthropy. Warren Buffett surprised shareholders on Monday with a near-1,500-word letter alongside his usual Thanksgiving gift to four of his family's foundations. The famed investor and Berkshire Hathaway CEO said he would shortly convert 1,600 of his Class A shares into 2.4 million Class B shares, worth about $1.2 billion. Advertisement He pledged to distribute 1.5 million of those shares to The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation — named after his late wife — and 300,000 shares to each of his three kids' foundations : The Sherwood Foundation, The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and NoVo Foundation. Buffett picked more trustees to share his wealth In his unexpected missive to Berkshire shareholders, Buffett said the gifts would reduce his personal stockpile to 206,363 A shares, worth $149 billion. He's now given away 56.6% of his shares since pledging 99% of them to good causes in 2006. The "Oracle of Omaha" said he and his late wife owned 508,998 A shares at the time of her death in 2004. Advertisement All else being equal, if Buffett still owned all those shares they'd be worth $367 billion, making him the world's richest man and wealthier than Elon Musk , who's worth $348 billion per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Buffett said his late wife's estate was worth about $3 billion, and 96% of that went into the pair's foundation. She bequeathed $10 million to their three children — Howard, Susie, and Peter — which was "the first large gift we had given to any of them," he said. "These bequests reflected our belief that hugely wealthy parents should leave their children enough so they can do anything but not enough that they can do nothing ," Buffett wrote. Advertisement The legendary stock picker reiterated his comments earlier this year that he now believes his kids are ready to handle the vast responsibility of distributing his Berkshire shares, which make up 99.5% of his wealth . But he acknowledged that his children, now in their late 60s and early 70s, might be unable to deploy his fortune before they die. "And tomorrow's decisions are likely to be better made by three live and well-directed brains than by a dead hand," Buffett wrote. "As such, three potential successor trustees have been designated. Each is well known to my children and makes sense to all of us. They are also somewhat younger than my children," Buffett said, adding those individuals are "on the waitlist" and he hoped his children disbursed all his assets. Advertisement The reality of philanthropy Buffett explained why the foundation that holds his wealth after he dies will require a unanimous vote for every action it takes. The investor said his children will be inundated by requests and the policy will help ensure the money is used wisely. Also, when one says "no" to a request for a gift, they can prevent follow-up asks by firmly saying their siblings would never approve it. Related stories The billionaire also offered some advice on passing down wealth. "I have one further suggestion for all parents, whether they are of modest or staggering wealth," he said. "When your children are mature, have them read your will before you sign it." Advertisement Involving them in the process will ensure they understand your logic and their post-mortem responsibilities, Buffett said. Spreading the luck In the letter — which was curt compared to Buffett's famous annual letter, which ran over 6,000 words this year and has previously exceeded 13,000 words — Buffett reflected on how lucky he was to be born in the US as a white male. He noted that his two sisters, Doris and Bertie, grew up with fewer opportunities than him. Buffett said he felt confident he'd be rich early in his life, but he never dreamed of the wealth that has become attainable in the US in recent decades. Advertisement "It has been mind-blowing — beyond the imaginations of Ford, Carnegie, Morgan or even Rockefeller," he said. "Billions became the new millions." Buffett said that "the real action from compounding takes place in the final twenty years of a lifetime. By not stepping on any banana peels, I now remain in circulation at 94 with huge sums in savings — call these units of deferred consumption — that can be passed along to others who were given a very short straw at birth." The investor said he and both his wives believed in equal opportunity at birth and didn't find conspicuous consumption to be "admirable," and he was pleased so many of his shareholders have gifted their wealth to society. Advertisement Buffett added that his children shared his and his siblings' values and while they're "comfortable financially," they're not "preoccupied by wealth. Their mother, from whom they learned these values, would be very proud of them. As am I."

Canada thumped Trinidad and Tobago 38-0 to win the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens on Sunday and qualify for World Rugby’s second-tier Challenger Series. The tournament-favourite Canadian men outscored their opposition 169-0 over five matches in a first step back up the rugby sevens ladder since being relegated from the elite HSBC SVNS circuit in June. The top four teams from the three-event Challenger Series will face off against the bottom four from the HSBC SVNS at the SVNS World Championships May 3-4 in Carson, Calif., in a promotion/relegation playoff. “I think it’s just about continually building,” said Canada captain Elias Hancock. “We know what we’re capable of. We’ve shown it at times. It’s just time to get back to that place where we know we belong.” Prior to relegation, Canada had been a core team on the top sevens circuit since 2012-13 and lifted the trophy in Singapore in 2017. The Canadian men finished eighth at the Tokyo Olympics. Trinidad had plenty of the ball in the first half of Sunday’s final at Larry Gomes Stadium. But Canada, helped by several penalties, scored first with Hancock touching down under the posts for a try converted by Thomas Isherwood. Matt Oworu, beating two defenders, added another converted try for a 14-0 lead at the break. Cooper Coats added a converted try early in the second half. And Hancock, Jack Shaw and Noah Bain added late tries after Trinidad lost a man to the sin-bin for two minutes midway through the second half for an infraction off a Canadian kickoff. Earlier Sunday, the Canadians defeated Jamaica 26-0 in semifinal play and the Cayman Islands 38-0 in the quarterfinal. Trinidad and Tobago made it to the final — for the first time since 2013 — with a 19-7 comeback win over Mexico. Jamaica defeated Mexico 12-0 to finish third. Weather was a factor during the three-day tournament in Arima, some 30 kilometres east of Port of Spain. After enduring 30-plus C heat and humidity Friday, their final Pool A game against Barbados was abandoned Saturday due to a storm. On Sunday, the Canadians played the Cayman Islands in a downpour and the skies opened again at halftime of the Jamaica game. Alex Russell, Josiah Morra, Coats and Hancock scored tries against Jamaica for Canada, which led 12-0 at the break. Thomas Isherwood added three conversions. Morra and Hancock each scored two tries against the Caymans and Ethan Hager and D’Shawn Bowen added singles for Canada, which led 19-0 at the half. Canada added four conversions. Canada, which blanked Guyana 29-0 Friday, dispatched Bermuda 38-0 Saturday and was leading Barbados 10-0 when the game was halted in the first half due to heavy rain and high winds. While play eventually resumed, the interrupted Canada game was ruled a scoreless draw. The Canadian men are coming off a disastrous 3-36-0 HSBC SVNS season that ended with a 22-14 loss to Spain with relegation on the line. It was a 29th straight defeat. After being relegated, coach Sean White’s team fell short in an Olympic repechage tournament in late June in Monaco, finishing fourth after losing 26-0 to eventual winner South Africa in the semifinals. The Blitzboks went on to claim bronze in Paris. The 13-man roster for the RAN 7s includes six players who were part of the relegation playoff in Madrid: Hancock, Isherwood, Morra, Coats, Oworu and David Richard. Morra, Coats and Oworu joined the sevens team from Bucharest where they were part of Kingsley Jones’ Canadian 15s squad for test matches against Chile and Romania. The Canadian men are scheduled to play in an invitational men’s sevens tournament taking place at B.C. Place Stadium alongside the HSBC SVNS Vancouver stop in February. The Canadian women left Sunday for Dubai and the opening stop of the 2005 HSBC SVNS season. The Olympic silver-medallist Canadians open play next Saturday against Japan before facing Brazil and Olympic champion New Zealand.New UNL music building will allow students more creativity
MMA promotion PFL has shown a startling lack of awareness by announcing a concert by rapper Nav which will occur in the middle of Friday's upcoming 2024 season championships while most fans are focused on the issue of Bellator stars being unable to get fights . The 2024 #PFLWorldChampionship just got bigger 😤 @beatsbynav will be performing before the 2024 #PFLWorldChampionship 🏆💰 B2YB @BOSE [ #PFLWorldChampionship | Friday, Nov 29th | 1PM ET | ESPN+] pic.twitter.com/iOpGbOP4kp This announcement comes one day after Bellator FW champ and GOAT Patricio Pitbull took to Twitter to remark, in reply to a thread of quote tweets began by colleague Patchy Mix, about poor treatment of fighters since the Professional Fighter's League purchased the rival promotion in the last year. I haven’t fought since February. I wanted to fight 3x this year, but I was told I’d have to wait until December 31st and found out online my opponent would fight someone else. Then they had a replacement, I bring people over, spend more money with the camp and there’s no fight. https://t.co/UM5YyCt4Kf Eight Bellator events were promised but only five will be delivered in 2024, with the final two events of the year (Paris and the Bellator New Year show in Japan) were canceled unceremoniously. The traditional Bellator NYE event received no announcement for its cancellation, and was not confirmed to be canceled until Pitbull’s statement. This is all taking place amidst an environment where fight fans are interested in the prospect of a strong #2 MMA promotion to rival the UFC but are growing disillusioned with the choices of the PFL. As a result, many fans have been highly-critical of PFL on social media. This is the last straw, burn PFL to the ground. Literally the worst musical artist of our times and a concert during the already 16 bout card with 10 five round fights pic.twitter.com/X0Ex0QxYKi The promotions event pacing has been oft-maligned by fans, making their decision to promote Nav, a Canadian rapper signed to the Weeknd's XO record label, even more bizarre. Playing a concert smack-dab in the middle of a card which begins at 7:15am EST and already has 16 total fights, including ten five-round fights, will not help those viewer concerns. The biggest decision the promotion made was to buy Bellator for around $100 million in stocks. That added many elite fighters to their roster such as the aforementioned Pitbull, Patchy Mix, Corey Anderson, Cris Cyborg, Gegard Mousasi, and Sergio Pettis. These fighters, and more, could have pushed PFL to the next level. However, all of those stars have complained at least about their treatment, while Mousasi is actively suing the organization. Unfortunately, they made the decision to preserve their unusual and often frustrating season format while keeping Bellator as a separate entity instead of combining both promotions to create a vast and multi-talented roster of fighters. The format is holding them back at this point, though it made them unique when the promotion was first formed from the corpse of World Series of Fighting (WSOF). The championships of PFL have generally delivered good fights but musical performances, military ceremonies, and other non-fighting events taking place which slow down these cards have not been well-received in past years by the fanbase. One also has to wonder, how much is this 'fighter-first promotion' paying Nav that they could have spent to get Bellator fighters the amount of fights they were promised in 2024?

The Olympic silver-medallist Canadians open play next Saturday against Japan before facing Brazil and Olympic champion New Zealand.A man in Jaipur was prevented from dying by hanging himself, an act he live-streamed on Facebook after his friend alerted police, authorities said on Sunday.
