He accused the Pentagon of being 'incredibly stupid and incredibly weak' when it comes to addressing the drones. 'I had credible individuals who have high security ratings, and they came to me and again, these are dependable, credible individuals that have security clearance that felt they wanted to clear the air,' Van Drew told Fox News on Thursday. 'They were in essence whistleblowers and said look, they believe there's a real possibility it could be Iran ,' the lawmaker insisted. 'There could be a ship out. Not right on the coast of New Jersey , not right there, but these drones as sighted by the coast guard are coming in and out of the ocean,' he continued. It came one day after Van Drew make the jaw-dropping claim point blank that his sources said Iran had launched a 'mothership' about a month ago where the drones are based, and it's now stationed off the coast. His accusations came in response to the Pentagon, which shot down his initial claim almost immediately Wednesday afternoon. 'There's no Iranian ship off the coast of the United States, and there's no so-called "mothership" launching drones toward the United States,' said Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh. She reiterated the Pentagon does not believe the drones are coming from a foreign adversary but also stated they are not U.S. military drones. 'The government claims it's not them. An employee at Northern Credit Union in Wawa, Ont., was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a shooter entered the branch and opened fire Thursday morning, the financial institution said in a statement. Our thoughts are with the individual who was injured and we are providing support to them and their family," said Richard Adam, president and CEO of Northern Credit Union, is quoted as saying in the news release. Ontario Provincial Police warned of its increased presence in the area of Mission Road and Magpie Road on social media just after noon. Bowen said he “doesn’t accept” the $594 billion figure for renewables, an estimate modelled by consultancy Frontier Economics for the Coalition. “What they have also done is very clearly in the costings of their own policy rejected the CSIRO and AEMO’s work,” Bowen said. “What the Coalition is asking the Australian people to believe is this: That they can introduce the most expensive form of energy and it will end up being cheaper. It won’t pass the pub test. But the airline has assured customers there will be no impact on their travel plans on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Around 500 workers from three different unions began a 24-hour strike action at 3.30am this morning. It’s expected to impact major airports across the country, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, and will end at 7.30am on Saturday. Friday marks the first day of the 6-week summer travel period when 13.5 million travellers pass through Australia’s domestic airports. It’s also the first day of school holidays in South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland. The striking workers, responsible for the towing and marshalling of planes, are calling for a 5 per cent per year pay increase over 5 years after what they say is 3.5 years of frozen wages. Qantas says it has put forward a competitive package with 3 per cent per year over three years, with negotiations now at a stalemate. Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union National Secretary Steve Murphy says industrial action was the only way to get Qantas to the bargaining table. It’s been six weeks since the last strike. “Workers have no other choice. They will be taking industrial action to bring Qantas back to the bargaining table,” Murphy said. “Qantas is to blame if there’s any disruption to commuters over the holiday period. They have had six weeks to simply do what they said they would.” A Qantas spokesperson said a number of contingencies are in place to prevent delays. “Around 160 aircraft maintenance engineers are rostered on during Friday’s industrial action, and only members of the alliance unions can take industrial action,” said Qantas. The spokesperson noted there were no delays or cancellations during the previous strikes. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton will ask Australians to support hundreds of billions of dollars in new spending on nuclear energy, including a controversial move to use taxpayer subsidies to build the industry while promising to bring down household electricity bills. Dutton is expected to reveal more details of his plan on Friday with a pledge to build , rather than smaller “modular” reactors, to deliver baseload electricity and lower the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Despite conceding the labour market data weakened the case for a cut, CBA economist Gareth Aird believes the remaining inflation and labour market prints before the RBA’s next meeting will coax the doves back out of the cage. It will almost certainly require trimmed mean inflation – released on January 29 – to come in below 0.6 per cent for the December quarter, Aird said, a significant reduction from the 0.8 per cent figure in the September quarter. The labour market would need to show signs of softening, too, he added. Softer wages data of late suggested the central bank should not be so worried about the low unemployment rate contributing to inflation, Aird said. The RBA estimates the non‐accelerating inflation rate of unemployment (NAIRU) – which represents so-called full employment or the unemployment rate consistent with maintaining stable inflation – to be 4.5 per cent. “Australia should be able to run an unemployment rate of about 4.0 per cent and see inflation within the target band sustainably,” Aird said. “But we don’t know if the RBA shares our view (or is coming around to our view).”

Incoming U.S. president Donald Trump promised Monday to impose the tariffs on his first day in office in January. He said he would keep the tariffs in place until Canada and Mexico stop illegal border crossings and prevent drugs such as fentanyl from entering the U.S. Smith told the legislature Tuesday the tariffs would be “devastating” across the board. She said she will highlight the "pressure points" that need to be addressed during a planned meeting Wednesday between premiers and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. "I believe the new (Trump) administration has been very clear about what it is they want. They want us to meet our two-per-cent NATO commitment, and they want to stop the leaky border," she said, pointing to the illegal fentanyl trade. In a video posted to social media, Smith said Canada needs to reach its pledged commitment to spend at least two per cent of its gross domestic product on defence by 2032. "If their trade partners are looking to be free riders on American security interests, that's also going to harm the relationship," Smith said, adding, "you also have to take seriously the asylum seekers." The U.S. is Alberta’s largest trading partner, with $188 billion in bilateral trade in 2023. Last year, energy products accounted for more than 80 per cent of that trade, or about $134 billion. Smith said the vast majority of Alberta's energy exports to the U.S. are "delivered through secure and safe pipelines," which "do not in any way contribute to these illegal activities." Moe added the proposed tariffs would hurt Saskatchewan’s export-based economy and drive up prices on both sides of the border. “This will have a significant impact in Canada and particularly in Saskatchewan. We export about 60 per cent of our products to the U.S. I don’t think any job, any industry would be untouched with a 25-per-cent tariff from the U.S. on all Canadian products,” he said.
