NEW YORK — There's a Christmas Day basketball game at Walt Disney World, featuring Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Wemby. An animated game, anyway. The real game takes place at Madison Square Garden, where Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs face the New York Knicks in a game televised on ABC and ESPN and streamed on Disney+ and ESPN+. The special alt-cast, the first animated presentation of an NBA game, will be shown on ESPN2 and also stream on Disney+ and ESPN+. Madison Square Garden is a staple of the NBA's Christmas schedule. Now it merges with a bigger home of the holidays, because the "Dunk the Halls" game will be staged at Disney, on a court set up right smack in the middle of where countless families have posed for vacation photos. Why that location? Because it was Mickey Mouse's Christmas wish. "Basketball courts often have the ability to make a normal environment look special, but in Disney it can only turn out incredible," Wembanyama said in an ESPN video promoting his Christmas debut. The story — this is Disney, after all — begins with Mickey penning a letter to Santa Claus, asking if he and his pals can host a basketball game. They'll not only get to watch one with NBA players, but some of them will even get to play. Goofy and Donald Duck will sub in for a couple Knicks players, while Mickey and Minnie Mouse will come on to play for the Spurs. "It looks to me like Goofy and Jalen Brunson have a really good pick-and-roll at the elite level," said Phil Orlins, an ESPN vice president of production. Walt Disney World hosted real NBA games in 2020, when the league set up there to complete its season that had been suspended by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those games were played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. The setting for the Christmas game will be Main Street USA, at the entrance of the Magic Kingdom. Viewers will recognize Cinderella's castle behind one baseline and the train station at the other end, and perhaps some shops they have visited in between. Previous alternate animated broadcasts included an NFL game taking place in Andy's room from "Toy Story;" the "NHL Big City Greens Classic" during a game between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers; and earlier this month, another NFL matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys also taking place at Springfield's Atoms Stadium as part of "The Simpsons Funday Football." Unlike basketball, the players are helmeted in those sports. So, this telecast required an extra level of detail and cooperation with players and teams to create accurate appearances of their faces and hairstyles. "So, this is a level of detail that we've never gone, that we've never done on any other broadcast," said David Sparrgrove, the senior director of creative animation for ESPN. Wembanyama, the 7-foot-3 phenom from France who was last season's NBA Rookie of the Year, looks huge even among most NBA players. The creators of the alternate telecast had to design how he'd look not only among his teammates and rivals, but among mice, ducks and chipmunks. "Like, Victor Wembanyama, seeing him in person is insane. It's like seeing an alien descend on a basketball court, and I think we kind of captured that in his animated character," said Drew Carter, who will again handle play-by-play duties, as he had in the previous animated telecasts, and will get an assist from sideline reporter Daisy Duck. Wembanyama's presence is one reason the Spurs-Knicks matchup, the leadoff to the NBA's five-game Christmas slate, was the obvious choice to do the animated telecast. The noon EST start means it will begin in the early evening in France and should draw well there. Also, it comes after ABC televises the "Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade" for the previous two hours, providing more time to hype the broadcast. Recognizing that some viewers who then switch over to the animated game may be Disney experts but NBA novices, there will be 10 educational explainers to help with basketball lingo and rules. Beyond Sports' visualization technology and Sony's Hawk-Eye tracking allow the animated players to make the same movements and plays made moments earlier by the real ones at MSG. Carter and analyst Monica McNutt will be animated in the style of the telecast, donning VR headsets to experience the game from Main Street, USA. Other animated faces recognizable to some viewers include NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who will judge a halftime dunk contest among Mickey and his friends, and Santa himself, who will operate ESPN's "SkyCam" during the game. The players are curious how the production — and themselves — will look. "It's going to be so crazy to see the game animated," Spurs veteran Chris Paul said. "I think what's dope about it is it will give kids another opportunity to watch a game and to see us, basically, as characters." The City boss is enduring the worst run of his glittering managerial career after a six-game winless streak featuring five successive defeats and a calamitous 3-3 draw in a match his side had led 3-0. The 53-year-old, who has won 18 trophies since taking charge at the Etihad Stadium in 2016, signed a contract extension through to the summer of 2027 just over a week ago. Yet, despite his remarkable successes, he still considers himself vulnerable to the sack and has pleaded with the club to keep faith. “I don’t want to stay in the place if I feel like I’m a problem,” said the Spaniard, who watched in obvious frustration as City conceded three times in the last 15 minutes in a dramatic capitulation against Feyenoord in midweek. “I don’t want to stay here just because the contract is there. “My chairman knows it. I said to him, ‘Give me the chance to try come back’, and especially when everybody comes back (from injury) and see what happens. “After, if I’m not able to do it, we have to change because, of course, (the past) nine years are dead. “More than ever I ask to my hierarchy, give me the chance. “Will it be easy for me now? No. I have the feeling that still I have a job to do and I want to do it.” City have been hampered by a raft of injuries this term, most pertinently to midfield talisman and Ballon d’Or winner Rodri. The Euro 2024 winner is expected to miss the remainder of the season and his absence has been keenly felt over the past two months. Playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has also not started a match since September. The pressure continues to build with champions City facing a crucial trip to title rivals and Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday. Defeat would leave City trailing Arne Slot’s side by 11 points. “I don’t enjoy it at all, I don’t like it,” said Guardiola of his side’s current situation. “I sleep not as good as I slept when I won every game. “The sound, the smell, the perfume is not good enough right now. “But I’m the same person who won the four Premier Leagues in a row. I was happier because I ate better, lived better, but I was not thinking differently from who I am.” Guardiola is confident his side will not stop battling as they bid to get back on track. He said: “The people say, ‘Yeah, it’s the end of that’. Maybe, but we are in November. We will see what happens until the end. “What can you do? Cry for that? You don’t stay long – many, many years without fighting. That is what you try to look for, this is the best (way). “Why should we not believe? Why should it not happen with us?”Marshall vs. James Madison FREE LIVE STREAM (11/30/24): Watch college football, Week 14 online | Time, TV, channel

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that it has reached a significant milestone in the Gaganyaan Programme, with the first solid motor segment moved from the production plant to the launch complex. The space agency said, "India's human spaceflight dreams are taking shape!" In a post on the social media platform X, ISRO stated, "A significant milestone for the Gaganyaan Programme! The first solid motor segment has been moved from the production plant to the launch complex, marking a key step towards the HLVM3 G1 flight." In September, ISRO Chairman S Somanath said that efforts were underway to launch India's first human spaceflight programme, Gaganyaan, by the end of this year. "Gaganyaan is ready for launch; we are trying to launch it by the end of this year," Somanath had said. The Gaganyaan Programme, approved in December 2018, envisages human spaceflight to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and the establishment of technologies required for a long-term Indian human space exploration endeavour. On 18 September, the Cabinet approved the Chandrayaan-4 mission to the Moon. This mission aims to develop and demonstrate technologies to return to Earth after a successful lunar landing, as well as collect and analyse Moon samples on Earth. The Chandrayaan-4 mission will achieve foundational technologies and capabilities needed for an eventual Indian landing on the Moon (planned by 2040) and a safe return to Earth. Key technologies for docking, undocking, landing, safe return, and lunar sample collection and analysis will be demonstrated. The central government's expanded vision for the Indian space programme during the Amrit Kaal includes an Indian Space Station (Bharatiya Antariksh Station) by 2035 and an Indian landing on the Moon by 2040. Two former ministers from Sagar Bhupendra Singh and Gopal Bhargava, who were once against each other, were seen together at a function. To display his strength, Singh organised a Bhajan Sandhya on the birthday of his son Abhiraj. A large number of Singh’s supporters were present at the function. A few politicians were invited to the event where a new equation against Govind Singh Rajput was seen. Rajput was not invited to the function. Legislator Braj Bihari Pateria was also present on the occasion. The BJP leaders in Sagar seem to have been divided into two groups. Bhupendra has recently said those who had come from other political outfits and were causing trouble to the party leaders would not be accepted. The plot of the formation of a new faction was scripted at the function. But a year ago, the leaders from Sagar district came to Bhopal with complaints against Bhupendra. Now, with the changing political scenario, the rivals are coming together. Political rivalry between Bhupendra and Bhargava is old. Although Bhargava was a senior minister in the cabinet, Bhupendra was influential in Sagar. After the change of power, both of them could not become ministers. But Rajput who switched over to the BJP from the Congress became a minister. Now, both are coming together against Rajput.

NoneBy Conor Ryan The Bruins have long forged an identity as a hard-nosed defensive unit — operating at their best when herding opponents out of Grade-A ice and clogging up shooting lanes, even at the cost of a stinging salvo struck off a shin pad. But no Boston roster helmed by defensive pillars like Zdeno Chara or Patrice Bergeron painted the same muted — and effective — canvas as the one crafted by the 2024-25 Bruins on Monday night. At least, such was the sentiment after glancing over the Capitals’ shot map at TD Garden. Washington has emerged as one of the top surprises in the league this year thanks to a suffocating forecheck and a propensity for peppering the net from high-danger ice. The Capitals rank third in the NHL in goals scored per contest (3.68) and sixth in high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (12.39) . Even with top triggerman Alex Ovechkin on the mend due to a fractured leg, Washington has still scored four-plus goals in six of their last 16 games. But on Monday, Washington generated next to nothing against a suffocating defensive effort from Boston. Not only did Boston limit the Capitals to just one tally, Washington only managed to muster 11 total shots on goal in the Bruins’ eventual 4-1 win. Monday marked the first time that the Bruins have limited an opponent to 11 shots on goal or fewer since Dec. 18, 1993, against the Tampa Bay Lightning — as well as just the seventh time in the franchise’s 100-year history that it held a team to 11 shots or fewer. “What they end up with, 11 shots? That’s pretty good,” Charlie Coyle said postgame. “I think any time you give up 11 shots, you’re probably having a decent game. “Whether it’s blocked shots, [Jeremy Swayman] doing his job when it gets to him, and maybe it’s clogging up the neutral zone and just playing good hockey and good support.” Coyle is one of just three Bruins on the active roster who was alive the last time Boston limited a team to such a minuscule shot total, joining Brad Marchand and Jordan Oesterle. For Joe Sacco, Monday’s defensive showcase was the most tangible piece of evidence yet that his team is buying into a simplified, stingy approach that has lifted Boston to an 11-4-1 record since he was handed the reins of the roster. “There’s been a commitment from our players. There’s been a buy-in,” Sacco acknowledged. “We have a process that we go through every game, and they’re checking most of the boxes. ... I like the mindset of the group where we’re at right now. I like the way we’re defending.” As a revamped line of Coyle, Brad Marchand, and Elias Lindholm eventually broke through with three third-period tallies to help the Bruins pull away, the Caps found themselves stuck in the neutral down the other end of the frozen sheet. At even-strength play, Washington only generated seven shots on goal. Boston blocked 17 shots in the win, headlined by Charlie McAvoy’s four. Washington landed zero shots on net over Lindholm’s 12:28 of 5-on-5 reps , with sound puck protection from the pivot and his new-look linemates routinely killing plays in Boston’s end. Much like Boston’s showing against a quick-strike Edmonton team last week (where the Oilers’ 2.33 expected goals rate was their fourth-lowest total of the year) , Sacco’s players negated odd-man rushes via simple, smart plays with the puck and tenacious work along the boards. Boston’s best stretch of play came seconds into the third period after Oliver Wahlstrom was assessed a five-minute major penalty for boarding. It served as an optimal spot for Washington’s power play — which entered Monday operating at 32.1 percent since Nov. 9 — to break what was a 1-1 stalemate. But Washington didn’t even land a single shot on goal over that five-minute man advantage, with Boston blocking three shots over that stretch and even attempting two shots of their own over the extended penalty kill. “We were blocking shots, winning faceoffs — kept them on the outside,” Lindholm said. “I don’t think they had a single shot during the five minutes. So that’s the way we had to play, to be dialed in the details.” It hasn’t always been perfect for Boston when it comes to committing to Sacco’s rigid system — as evidenced by an 8-1 blowout loss to Winnipeg on Dec. 10. But Sacco’s emphasis on clamping down in high-danger ice has resonated in Boston’s underlying numbers. Since Sacco’s first game as bench boss on Nov. 21, the Bruins are behind only the Panthers for 5-on-5 high-danger scoring chances allowed per 60 minutes (7.75). Over these last 16 games, Boston has generated 139 high-danger looks at 5-on-5 action while only relinquishing 101 in its own zone. This Bruins roster still has its fair share of warts, with concerns over scoring hovering over a team that also lost David Pastrnak to injury Monday night. But even if the personnel in Boston aren’t realistically going to light the lamp four times a night, they have the system and structure in place to make life miserable for the opposition. It certainly won’t equate to 11 shots allowed, night in and night out. But it’s a winning formula for a Bruins team that has started to find its identity amid a once-rudderless season. “We didn’t force anything,” Marchand said. “We were really detailed defensively, and obviously capitalized on a couple turnovers. That’s the way that we’ve been preaching to play in this room. ... That’s a very good team, and we didn’t give them a whole lot.” Conor Ryan Conor Ryan is a staff writer covering the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox for Boston.com, a role he has held since 2023. The NBA found the Hawks violated the league's Player Participation Policy when the 26-year-old American missed a November 12 contest at Boston. The probe, which included a review by an independent physician, determined the Hawks held Young out of a game, in which he could have played, under the medical standard clause of the policy, which is aimed at having top NBA talent play in regular-season contests. The Hawks, who beat Boston 117-116, said Young was unavailable due to tendinitis in his right Achilles tendon. Three-time NBA All-Star Young, who has not missed another game this season, has averaged 21.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and an NBA-best 11.9 assists so far this season. At 7-11, the Hawks are 11th in the Eastern Conference. The NBA also fined Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown $35,000 for aggressively pursuing a referee during his team's 108-103 home loss to Brooklyn on Sunday. The Kings are 8-10, 12th in the Western Conference after dropping four games in a row. js/bsp

Prairie premiers urge action on security to fend off Trump's tariff threatsA former Chicago Bears quarterback thinks the team should look to hire a Super Bowl-winning coach who is currently employed with another NFL team but could become a free agent in a couple of weeks. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is receiving much of the national focus for the opening in Chicago. However, the Bears front office wants a “leader of men,” and, preferably, one with head coaching experience. Chase Daniel likes Mike McCarthy Former Bears quarterback Chase Daniel (2018-19) thinks Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy should consider taking the Chicago job. “I think a fascinating choice though for Mike, and hopefully, he’s looking into this, would be the Chicago Bears,” Daniels said on FS1 ‘s The Facility on Tuesday. “Because you know that division, you have a rookie quarterback who you would say at the time, when he’s coming out, is more developed than Dak Prescott, a fourth-round pick was right? “You have an old-school mentality, which is what the Chicago Bears need, and you don’t have to deal with a crazy owner. Now, I don’t think it’s going to happen, but there’s other teams out there that I can make a case for Mike going to, like I could imagine Mike McCarthy and Caleb Williams together. Like, it makes sense. So, it’s just crazy how it swung the pendulum swung sort of the power is back in Mike’s hands.” People don’t realize that Mike McCarthy is actually a free agent & can sign anywhere...are we SURE he wants to go back to Dallas? The Chicago Bears should be lurking around...it may sound crazy, but hear me out. -Knows division well -Develops QB almost better than anyone -Leader pic.twitter.com/U5zLdYfBqh — Chase Daniel (@ChaseDaniel) December 24, 2024 McCarthy is set to become a free agent in two weeks McCarthy entered 2024 in the final year of his contract with Dallas. He was expected to have to lead the Cowboys on a deep playoff run to earn an extension. However, an early season injury to star pass rusher Micah Parsons and a season-ending injury to Prescott on Nov. 3 killed the already talent-thin team’s hopes of making the playoffs. Still, the Cowboys haven’t quit under McCarthy. Dallas improved to 7-8 with a 26-24 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. The consensus around the league appears to be that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will bring back McCarthy on a one-year contract for 2025. Could the Chicago Bears hire a Super Bowl-winning head coach? Maybe McCarthy could be persuaded to sign a multi-year deal with the Bears in January. The 61-year-old head coach won Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy’s quarterback for that Super Bowl was Aaron Rodgers, who Williams grew up idolizing. There are much worse options for the Bears to consider than McCarthy. However, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and Johnson might have a higher ceiling than a head coach who hasn’t won a postseason game since 2016. McCarthy is 174-110 as a head coach in the league. He’s 11-11 in the postseason. This article first appeared on ChiCitySports and was syndicated with permission.

By ZEKE MILLER, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday reached a required agreement with President Joe Biden’s White House to allow his transition staff to coordinate with the existing federal workforce before taking office on Jan. 20. The congressionally mandated agreement allows transition aides to work with federal agencies and access non-public information and gives a green light to government workers to talk to the transition team. But Trump has declined to sign a separate agreement with the General Services Administration that would have given his team access to secure government offices and email accounts, in part because it would require that the president-elect limit contributions to $5,000 and reveal who is donating to his transition effort. The White House agreement was supposed to have been signed by Oct. 1, according to the Presidential Transition Act, and the Biden White House had issued both public and private appeals for Trump’s team to sign on. The agreement is a critical step in ensuring an orderly transfer of power at noon on Inauguration Day, and lays the groundwork for the White House and government agencies to begin to share details on ongoing programs, operations and threats. It limits the risk that the Trump team could find itself taking control of the massive federal government without briefings and documents from the outgoing administration. As part of the agreement with the White House, Trump’s team will have to publicly disclose its ethics plan for the transition operation and make a commitment to uphold it, the White House said. Transition aides must sign statements that they have no financial positions that could pose a conflict of interest before they receive access to non-public federal information. Biden himself raised the agreement with Trump when they met in the Oval Office on Nov. 13, according to the White House, and Trump indicated that his team was working to get it signed. Trump chief of staff-designate Susie Wiles met with Biden’s chief of staff Jeff Zients at the White House on Nov. 19 and other senior officials in part to discuss remaining holdups, while lawyers for the two sides have spoken more than a half-dozen times in recent days to finalize the agreement. “Like President Biden said to the American people from the Rose Garden and directly to President-elect Trump, he is committed to an orderly transition,” said White House spokesperson Saloni Sharma. “President-elect Trump and his team will be in seat on January 20 at 12 pm – and they will immediately be responsible for a range of domestic and global challenges, foreseen and unforeseen. A smooth transition is critical to the safety and security of the American people who are counting on their leaders to be responsible and prepared.” Without the signed agreement, Biden administration officials were restricted in what they could share with the incoming team. Trump national security adviser-designate Rep. Mike Waltz met recently with Biden national security adviser Jake Sullivan, but the outgoing team was limited in what it could discuss. “We are doing everything that we can to effect a professional and an orderly transition,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Monday. “And we continue to urge the incoming team to take the steps that are necessary to be able to facilitate that on their end as well.” “This engagement allows our intended Cabinet nominees to begin critical preparations, including the deployment of landing teams to every department and agency, and complete the orderly transition of power,” said Wiles in a statement. The Trump transition team says it would disclose its donors to the public and would not take foreign donations. A separate agreement with the Department of Justice to coordinate background checks for vetting and security clearances is still being actively worked on and could be signed quickly now that the White House agreement is signed. The agency has teams of investigators standing by to process clearances for Trump aides and advisers once that document is signed. That would clear the way for transition aides and future administration appointees and nominees to begin accessing classified information before Trump takes office. Some Trump aides may hold active clearances from his first term in office or other government roles, but others will need new clearances to access classified data. Trump’s team on Friday formally told the GSA that they would not utilize the government office space blocks from the White House reserved for their use, or government email accounts, phones and computers during the transition. The White House said it does not agree with Trump’s decision to forgo support from the GSA, but is working on alternate ways to get Trump appointees the information they need without jeopardizing national security. Federal agencies are receiving guidance on Tuesday on how to share sensitive information with the Trump team without jeopardizing national security or non-public information. For instance, agencies may require in-person meetings and document reviews since the Trump team has declined to shift to using secure phones and computers. For unclassified information, agencies may ask Trump transition staff to attest that they are taking basic safeguards, like using two-factor authentication on their accounts.None
