For the agents removing immigrants, it’s a painstaking process Former President Barack Obama changed the official name to Denali in 2015 to reflect the traditions of Alaska Natives as well as the preference of many Alaska residents. The federal government in recent years has endeavored to change place-names considered disrespectful to Native people. “Denali” is an Athabascan word meaning “the high one” or “the great one.” A prospector in 1896 dubbed the peak “Mount McKinley” after President William McKinley, who had never been to Alaska. That name was formally recognized by the U.S. government until Obama changed it over opposition from lawmakers in McKinley’s home state of Ohio. Trump suggested in 2016 that he might undo Obama’s action, but he dropped that notion after Alaska’s senators objected. He raised it again during a rally in Phoenix on Sunday. “McKinley was a very good, maybe a great president,” Trump said Sunday. “They took his name off Mount McKinley, right? That’s what they do to people.” Once again, Trump’s suggestion drew quick opposition within Alaska. “Uh. Nope. It’s Denali,” Democratic state Sen. Scott Kawasaki posted on the social platform X Sunday night. Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski , who for years pushed for legislation to change the name to Denali, conveyed a similar sentiment in a post of her own. “There is only one name worthy of North America’s tallest mountain: Denali — the Great One,” Murkowski wrote on X. Various tribes of Athabascan people have lived in the shadow of the 20,310-foot (6,190-meter) mountain for thousands of years. McKinley, a Republican native of Ohio who served as the 25th president, was assassinated early in his second term in 1901 in Buffalo, New York. Alaska and Ohio have been at odds over the name since at least the 1970s. Alaska had a standing request to change the name since 1975, when the legislature passed a resolution and then-Gov. Jay Hammond appealed to the federal government. Known for its majestic views, the mountain is dotted with glaciers and covered at the top with snow year-round, with powerful winds that make it difficult for the adventurous few who seek to climb it. Rush reported from Portland, Oregon.

AMP co-founder Agent00 has been suddenly banned on Twitch for the first time, leaving fans waiting for him to explain what happened. Over the last couple of years, Kai Cenat and everyone in his Twitch collective, ‘Any Means Possible,’ has skyrocketed in popularity on the Amazon-owned streaming platform. Among those AMP members is co-founder Agent00 , who averages over 10k viewers each stream thanks to his focus on Just Chatting, GTA 5, and other popular games. On December 5, 2024, Agent was suddenly banned from Twitch – but has yet to reveal the reason why. Agent suddenly banned on Twitch Visiting his Twitch channel no longer gives you access to his VODs and other stream features, but instead gives you the site’s usual ban message. “This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service,” it reads. Agent hasn’t responded to news of the ban, so it’s unclear what caused the suspension as of writing. However, many fans across social media began speculating that it was caused by him driving a car without a seatbelt on. In the stream , Agent was showing off his project car when he decided to take it out on the road to test-drive the vehicle while interacting with viewers. According to Twitch Community Guidelines , streamers are prohibited from broadcasting content that may “endanger your life,” such as driving while distracted. “We also prohibit activity that may endanger your life, lead to your physical harm, or encourage others to engage in physically harmful behavior,” it reads. As an example, it lists “dangerous or distracted driving, including using a phone while driving and driving under the influence” as content that may not be shown or promoted. Related: Of course, we’ll have to wait for Agent to comment on the ban to know anything for certain as Twitch does not share details about suspensions with the public.High Point secures OT win in Rally in the Valley - Girls basketball recap

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Drake Maye’s arrival in New England coincided with a wholesale reset for the Patriots franchise following the departure of coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Mac Jones this past offseason. In his eight starts since assuming the reins from veteran Jacoby Brissett, the rookie quarterback has provided encouraging examples of what the Patriots’ revamped front office saw in selecting him third overall in the draft last April. While the Patriots enter their bye week with a 3-10 record and just 2-6 with Maye as the starter, both the coaching staff and his teammates feel they have a quarterback they can build around going forward. “I’m just trying to take it one day at a time, one game at a time,” Maye said this week. “I’m trying to learn from negative experiences or negative plays, learn from turnovers, learn from sacks that I take and see if I can get the ball out and do something better. That’s probably the biggest thing. "Hopefully, the work that we’re putting in and the product that we’re putting out can lead to some positive plays and some positive wins down the road.” Maye is coming off his best statistical performance of the season, completing a season best 80% of his passes (24 of 30) for a season-high 238 yards and a touchdown in New England’s 25-24 loss to Indianapolis. He also had a 41-yard run, showing off a running ability that has him averaging 9.1 yards per carry – best among quarterbacks who have played at least nine games. Maye did have one interception off a tipped ball, but showed his best command of offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt’s scheme to date, spreading the ball around to six different players and consistently getting the Patriots into the red zone. The rub is that the Patriots were just 2 of 6 once they got there, including four trips inside the 10-yard line that yielded only one TD. Lackluster play in the red zone has been a hindrance for a unit that ranks 30th in the NFL in scoring touchdowns inside the 20. Maye said it will be one of his main focal points over the final four games. “It’s tough to go out like that,” Maye said. “You can’t win games going four drives in the red zone that end in field goals. We’ve got to focus in on that. I think that’s been an emphasis of improvement for this offense. We know you have to score touchdowns to win in this league.” Though coach Jerod Mayo agrees there is room for improvement for Maye, he also pointed out that the pieces around him need to do a better job supporting him as well. He pointed specifically to the offensive line, singling out rookie left guard Layden Robinson and rookie tackle Caedan Wallace, as well as fellow lineman and 2022 first-round pick Cole Strange, who is working his way back from a knee injury. “You need a guy like Layden Robinson to show what he can do. We need a guy like Cole Strange before the end of the season to see what he can do,” Mayo said. “You can use Caedan in that same bucket. We need to see what the receivers can do and what they’re going to look like going forward, and that’s the hard part for me. You want to win right now, but at the same time, I think it would be a disservice to go to the end of the season and not know exactly what we have.” That’s not lost on Robinson, who wants to play better for his quarterback who he said has grown exponentially as a leader since earning the starting job. “He always has that confidence about him and you know how he takes control of the huddle,” Robinson said. “He gets in there, and he’s like, ‘All right, let’s go to work,’ basically. We rally behind him.” Results aside, Van Pelt said there are no regrets about initially waiting to elevate Maye to the starting job. “Absolutely not. I think we had the plan going into place, and I think that it’s showing now that that was a good decision for us,” Van Pelt said. “Would he be as developed had he started the first game? Maybe. Could’ve gone the other way as well. I stated in the spring, this is a marathon, it’s not a sprint. "This is about a career, franchise quarterback, and we’re trying to develop him in the right way. And I feel like we did it that way.” AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nflAudrey Decker , Defense One EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif.—The U.S. military is many years away from letting robots take over the role of human pilots, according to the Air Force official who oversees development of AI piloting technology. “There may be someday we can completely rely on robotized warfare” but “it is centuries away,” said Brig. Gen. Doug Wickert, commander of the 412th Test Wing here. The base is the hub for testing a host of new planes and technology, including software that enables AI to drive fighter jets. The test wing has been experimenting with autonomous pilots through its X-62A VISTA platform, a modified F-16 jet loaded with AI software. What AI pilots can do today is remarkable, Wickert said, but there’s still a gap between the digital world and the real deal—and robot pilots still make “unexpected” choices during flight tests. Wickert’s comments come as the U.S. military faces scrutiny—and mockery—from President-elect Donald Trump’s key advisers Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy for buying expensive manned fighter jets instead of prioritizing drones and other lower-cost platforms. Beyond concerns about technology readiness, warfare is extremely complicated and incorporating AI raises a number of ethics questions—includingwhether the chance of war increases if humans aren’t in the equation, Wickert told a group of reporters visiting the base. Edwards, a sprawling complex in the western portion of the Mojave Desert, has tested every generation of fighter jet since America’s very first—the Bell P-59 in 1942. Now, the base is preparing to test the next generation of fighter technology, including the Air Force’s new robot fighter jets, called collaborative combat aircraft. The CCAs will cost about $30 million per drone, which is roughly a third of the cost of one F-35 jet. The base will house the Air Force’s CCA drones for testing—likely next year—once the two contractors, General Atomics and Anduril, finish their prototypes. The AI software being developed through the VISTA program won’t go straight into the CCAs, but will “inform” the AI-enabled drones, Wickert said. Loading AI onto the drones will be an incremental effort, and CCAs will have “varying levels of autonomy” as the service builds trust in AI, Wickert said. Base officials have already started preparing for the Air Force’s 6th-generation stealth fighter jet, called Next Generation Air Dominance, or NGAD. But the program’s fate is up in the air after service secretary Frank Kendall paused the program in July due to high-cost projections and emerging technology, and the service announced Thursday that it would further delay the program, punting a decision to the next administration. But the ongoing pause doesn’t have a significant impact on Edwards, Wickert said, because there’s still planning to do to prepare for NGAD testing. The base has already hired more people so it can prepare for when the Air Force eventually makes a source selection on NGAD, he said. ___ ©2024 Government Executive Media Group LLC. A look at crucial role of regulators in power sector SIFC focuses on renewable energy such as $200m investment to convert thermal plant into 300 MW solar facility ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan’s economy shows promising signs of recovery, the power sector plays a pivotal role in driving sustainable growth. The Economic Update and Outlook for November 2024 highlights a significant surge in foreign direct investment (FDI) within the sector, with $414 million invested in the first four months of FY2025 — comprising 46% of total FDI. This influx is part of a broader $585.6 million investment in energy, encompassing electricity, oil, gas and renewables. The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is central to this positive momentum, transforming the investment landscape and enhancing energy infrastructure. The SIFC’s focus on renewable energy is evident through initiatives such as a $200 million investment to convert a thermal plant into a 300 MW solar facility and establish a 3 GW solar panel and battery manufacturing plant in Karachi. These projects not only foster clean energy transitions but also position Pakistan as a regional leader in renewable technologies. However, a critical challenge undermining progress in the power sector is the persistent issue of rising circular debt, largely driven by inefficiencies in operations of Discos. High transmission and distribution (T&D) losses and poor recovery rates have placed immense financial strain on the sector. The Discos’ inability to recover billed amounts effectively, coupled with power theft and management issues, has significantly contributed to the circular debt, now exceeding Rs2.6 trillion and expected to rise further. This burden is borne by all power customers in Pakistan, even those in Karachi who have zero contribution to the circular debt. This is evident from the PHL charges applied in KE bills, despite KE, a private entity, not parking its losses in the circular debt, unlike Discos. The privatisation of Discos emerges as a viable solution to address these structural inefficiencies. It is also a condition outlined by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with progress expected by early 2025. Transitioning to private management can enhance operational efficiency, governance, and customer service. Initial privatisation targets reportedly include GEPCO, LESCO, and MEPCO. Privatised entities like KE demonstrate how private investment and accountability can reduce T&D losses, improve infrastructure, and better serve customers. Privatisation aligns with Pakistan’s broader reform strategy, including the introduction of Competitive Trading Bilateral Contract Market (CTBCM). A compelling example of successful privatisation is Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), privatised in 2002. The TPDDL achieved remarkable success through policies balancing fair tariffs and operational costs. This approach ensured financial viability and significantly improved service delivery. Operating without circular debt, the TPDDL reduced AT&C losses from 53% to single digits over two decades, investing over $1.3 billion in infrastructure. Supportive policies, such as opt-in subsidies and special courts for theft cases, bolstered its success, with $160 billion paid in shareholder dividends. Pakistan could benefit from studying such examples to guide its path toward effective privatisation and sectoral reforms. A sustainable tariff mechanism is essential for the sector’s stability and growth. Current tariffs should reflect the true cost of electricity supply, mitigating financial pressures on both Discos and consumers. Regulatory bodies, particularly the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), play a crucial role in addressing these challenges by ensuring tariffs are fair, transparent, and reflective of market realities. However, Nepra must reconsider assuming a 100% recovery rate when developing tariffs. The current system, where unrecovered costs are ultimately shifted to consumers as PHL surcharges, is inefficient. Establishing ambitious yet achievable recovery targets, with Discos funding any over- or under-recovery, could sustainably reduce tariffs and facilitate privatisation. For instance, HESCO and SEPCO’s recovery rates in 2022-23 were 75.88% and 68.19%, respectively, while QESCO’s recovery was a mere 36.92%. No investor will fund such significant gaps. NEPRA should adopt a phased reduction strategy similar to the TPDDL’s case, supported by a sustainable business model for Discos. In conclusion, Nepra’s balanced regulatory decisions, coupled with decisive government actions to privatise and restructure Discos, will reaffirm Pakistan’s position as a reliable and attractive destination for international investment. By prioritising recovery improvements and sustainable tariffs, the power sector can become the cornerstone of Pakistan’s economic revival.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Dan Campbell stood at the podium after Detroit blew a 17-point lead to San Francisco in last season's NFC title game and talked about how that might have been the Lions' only shot at reaching the Super Bowl. The coach knew how difficult it would be to maintain that high level of play through injuries, attrition and with a target on their back as a top contender in the NFC. Eleven months later as Campbell and the Lions prepare to return to Levi's Stadium for the first time since that loss , that has proved to be prophetic — for San Francisco instead of Detroit. The Lions (13-2) head into the rematch Monday night with the inside track at the top seed in the NFC playoffs, while the 49ers (6-9) have already been eliminated from postseason contention . The element of revenge for last season's 34-31 loss is secondary for Detroit, considering what's on the line the last two weeks of the season. The Lions can clinch the top seed in the NFC by winning their final two games or with a win against the Niners if Minnesota loses to Green Bay on Sunday. “Anytime we lose, the thought of losing is going to motivate you to not want to lose again, particularly with where you were at,” Campbell said. “So, that’s always going to bring its own level of motivation to it. But this is where we’re at in the season, we know that we need another win, we understand where we’re at in the division and the NFC, so I think it’s all encompassing.” While the Lions have no need to search for motivation, that's not the case for the 49ers, who are playing out the string of a lost season after making losing back-to-back NFC title games in 2021-22 and the Super Bowl last season. A run of injuries to key players like Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, Nick Bosa and Brandon Aiyuk, combined with inconsistent play all season have led to the 49ers having nothing to play for in the final two games. “It’s obviously not where you want to be this time of year,” Bosa said. "It’s different, especially watching where we’re at last year against this team. Just that feeling of December, January football is a feeling that I’ve gotten used to being really competitive and being in the mix. I think we’re doing a good job of staying engaged and obviously this is our job, so we’re going to finish it strong. Detroit’s faith in Jameson Williams is paying off, taking advantage of his game-breaking abilities with big plays. Jared Goff heaved an 82-yard touchdown pass over Williams’ shoulders and into his hands in last week’s win at Chicago. Earlier this season, Goff threw 70-, 64- and 52-yard passes for scores to the third-year receiver. “We work on it a ton, him and I do, and it’s a testament to him,” Goff said. “He’s asking for it. He wants that work, and I’m more than happy to give it to him during the week. It’s good. Our connection continues to grow. He’s obviously one of the best deep threats in our league, even when it’s not perfect.” The 49ers head into the game scrambling to put together an offensive line. Williams has been out for more than a month with an ankle injury and his backup at left tackle, Jaylon Moore, is now sidelined by a quadriceps injury. Left guard Aaron Banks injured his knee last week, while his backup Ben Bartch is already out with an ankle injury. That will leave the Niners with two third-stringers protecting Brock Purdy. But Shanahan said he isn’t thinking of sitting Purdy to protect him. “People deal with that throughout the year on other weeks, too,” he said. “I mean, we’ve got a football team. We’ve got to go out and we’ve got two games here and we’ve got to see what guys we can put out there and whatever we do we’re going to put a game plan together to, as best as we can to give us a chance to win.” Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who may have a chance for the second straight offseason to be an NFL head coach, routinely pulls off trick plays and his latest was a doozy. Goff intentionally stumbled after taking a snap and Jahmyr Gibbs went to the ground as their teammates yelled, “fumble,” to fool the Bears on a 21-yard touchdown pass to Sam LaPorta. “Those make you feel good because everybody is invested in it,” Campbell said. “It’s fun. It’s different. It’s sound. “I know it sounds crazy, but it’s sound.” San Francisco kicker Jake Moody is having a rough second season after being drafted in the third round a year ago. Moody has missed seven field goals this season, including a 41-yarder last week at Miami. Moody is just 10 for 16 since coming back from a high ankle sprain in his kicking foot, but Shanahan said he still has confidence in him. “I still feel the same about him, that I believe he’ll be our guy,” Shanahan said. "I mean everyone’s got to perform and do things like that. I think he has had a tough year. Before his high ankle sprain, he missed one. ... I think he was 12 of 13 before that, so I thought he was doing really well." AP Sports Writer Larry Lage contributed to this report. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl
What's the story behind the Netflix series 'Stranger Things'? Some say it was inspired by a place in New York where bizarre experiments of mind-control and time travel are rumored to have been conducted. A place featuring an elaborate system of underground tunnels where half-reptile like creatures are said to exist. Let's explore Camp Hero , an abandoned military base in Montauk, New York. Did this once secret location inspire 'Stranger Things' ? You be the judge. When the weather is warmer families and friends gather at Camp Hero State Park on Long Island to enjoy over 700 acres of nature and waterfront. Quietly tucked along side of the park's lighthouse is the decommissioned Air Force base, Camp Hero. Camp Hero was originally used for coastal defense in the 1940's and 50's during World War 2. If you have ever visited you can't help but notice the massive radar tower which some suggest was used for mind-control experiments. Officials have denied the existence of an underground network of tunnels but several individuals that used to work on the base have confirmed that they are indeed there. One former employee, Preston Nichols, published the book 'The Montauk Project; Experiments In Time' . Preston Nichols was a Radar Technician on what was called the 'Montauk Experiments' at Camp Hero. In his 1992 book, Nichols spoke of alien technology, time-travel, child abduction, UFO landing pads and much more that took place on the base. Keep scrolling to see the base that officially closed in 1994. Some say there has been scientific and military activity as recently as 2011. Earlier, Paulinus had been reported missing on September 8, 2024, by his brother, after he went out with his friend, Onoetiyi Efe, a 30-year-old male. Efe, who initially denied knowing anything about Paulinus’s disappearance, later visited Paulinus’s family. When confronted with the fact that Paulinus had gone out with him on that same day, Efe denied this. Later, he returned and demanded N500,000 from Paulinus’s brother, claiming he would use the money to consult a herbalist who could help them locate Paulinus. Efe also informed the family that Paulinus had been kidnapped and collected a ransom of approximately N20,715,000 from Paulinus’s brother, claiming he was in contact with the kidnappers. When it became clear that Efe was hiding something, he was arrested, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at the State Headquarters in Asaba. The Commissioner of Police, Delta Command, Abaniwonda Olufemi, on November 28, 2024, directed the DPO of Ekpan to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation is carried out to identify those responsible, as the main suspect, Efe, was not cooperating. Ekpan conducted an intelligence-led investigation that led to the indictment of one Okeimute Gaga, 48. Upon arrest, Okeimute Gaga confessed, saying: “I can no longer hide what happened. I will narrate how Efe brought Paulinus to Orere River in Otokutu and asked us to kill him.” The suspect further stated that on September 8, 2024, he, Efe, Sunday Ikpeba, and a 30-year-old herbalist known as Lawrence Joseph tied Paulinus Okon to a stake at night near Orere River and beheaded him while he was still alive. “His body was thrown into the river while the herbalist took Paulinus’s head and buried it at his shrine in Otokutu,” he added. The DPO of Ekpan Police Station led police operatives to the shrine in Otokutu, where the skull of Paulinus was exhumed and recovered. Asked why he killed his friend, Efe said that he found a building for sale for N30,000,000, which he advertised to Paulinus. The deceased paid him N30,000,000 in three instalments, but instead of purchasing the house, Efe diverted the money for his personal use, buying two plots of land and building a duplex for himself. “I did not know how to explain to the deceased that I had used his money, so I decided that killing him would save me the trouble,” he confessed. According to the Commissioner of Police, Efe and the three other suspects are currently in custody.
