'Tally-ho': Tester bids the U.S. Senate farewellTEHRAN- The head of the Iranian Space Organization announced that tests for the Saman-1 propulsion system's orbital transfer block were successfully completed. Hassan Salarieh announced that the team completed multiple tests for the Saman-1 orbital transfer block after more than 24 continuous hours in orbit. Salarieh observed that the team effectively completed all tests on Saman-1's subsystems and communication functions. As he further mentioned, the communication tests with ground stations, which included command transmission and data reception, along with tests for determining status and control, were successfully executed. The head of the Iranian Space Organization explained that situation control is achieved through multiple methods using cold gas thrusters, with some results showing a high level of accuracy. On Friday, December 6, the Simorgh satellite carrier launched the Saman-1 orbital transfer block, with two extra cube satellite payloads and a research payload from the Imam Khomeini launch base. They happily entered an elliptical orbit that reached an altitude of 410 km and a perigee of 300 km.
THANE: A 35-year-old schoolteacher was arrested on Saturday for allegedly sexually abusing three boys between the ages of 9 and 15. The accused, employed at an English-medium school in Ambernath, is also associated with a Delhi-based open schooling institute that caters to underprivileged children. The victims, whose parents are daily wage earners, had enrolled them in the classes in June where the accused taught. Officials said that the teacher forced the minors to give him massages, touched them inappropriately and recorded their nude videos. The incident first came to light in September when the abrupt discontinuation of classes by three students raised concerns within the school administration. Alarmed by their prolonged absence, the institution’s social service team was tasked with investigating the matter. Despite repeated efforts by the boys’ parents to persuade them to return to school, the children firmly refused. It was only after weeks of hesitation that one of the boys confided in his family, revealing the inappropriate behaviour of the teacher. This revelation prompted the parents to discuss the matter collectively with the families of the other two boys. The discussions eventually led to the school being informed of the true reason behind the students’ refusal to attend, shedding light on a matter. Senior police inspector Balaji Pandhare stated that upon receiving a complaint from the institution’s officials on December 6, a team was promptly dispatched to the children’s homes to gather all necessary information. “We have arrested the accused at his residence for committing this heinous act against children,” he said. During the investigation, the police examined the teacher’s electronic devices and discovered videos involving some children. “The content is currently under verification,” the inspector added. The accused, a resident of Ambernath, lives with his wife and child. He has been booked under sections 68 (criminalises sexual intercourse) and 95 (using a child for sexual exploitation or pornography) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 4 and 6 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault), 8 (sexual assault on a child), 10 (five years in prison for aggravated sexual assault on a child) and 13 (Use of child for pornographic purposes) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Police are now investigating the matter with all 20 students who were under the teacher’s tutelage, recording their statements to gather more details about the extent of the abuse.
Patiala: Apart from ASI Jasbir Singh , the man who was involved in securing Sukhbir Singh Badal ’s life during an assassination attempt on him outside the Golden Temple on Dec 4 appeared before the media on Saturday. Accompanied by former Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, the man addressed the mediapersons outside Takht Kesgarh Sahib in Ropar district. He claimed that he along with ASI Jasbir Singh had tackled the attacker outside the Golden Temple. Describing the situation on that particular day, the person, who identified himself as Gurdeep Singh from Makorad Sahib village in Sangrur district and a close aide of Dhindsa, said he overpowered the attacker immediately after ASI Jasbir Singh, in plainclothes, subdued Narain Singh Chaura, the former Khalistani militant. Sukhbir had a narrow escape on the second day of his atonement, as Chaura came in close proximity to the Akali leader and pulled out a gun on him. At the time of the incident, Sukhbir was rendering his services outside Harmandar Sahib in Amritsar. Gurdeep Singh, a former market committee chairman in Moonak, mentioned that Sukhbir Badal personally called him to express gratitude and also invited him for a meeting. “On Dec 4, when the attacker took out his gun, I ran towards him. By that time, he had opened fire, but his target failed with the intervention of ASI Jasbir Singh. Immediately after the shot was fired, I blocked his body by holding him tightly and overpowered him and then handed him over to the police,” Gurdeep recalled. “I haven’t made any sacrifice, nor do I want to gain any praise for subduing the attacker. I am thankful to waheguru,” he added. Showing the video grabs of the incident, Gurdeep ridiculed the claims that two policemen had saved Sukhbir’s life. On Dec 5 evening, Sukhbir while sharing a post on X, said: “Risking your life to save someone’s life is not an easy thing. Both ASI Jasbir Singh and ASI Hira Singh, since the time of late Parkash Singh Badal, have been a part of our family. My family and I cannot repay the courage and loyalty shown by them yesterday. May God bless them with long life, good health, and happiness.” We also published the following articles recently Heroic civilian who saved Sukhbir Badal from attacker, claims no police affiliation; says 2nd person after ASI Jasbir in saving life Gurdeep Singh, alongside ASI Jasbir Singh, claims to have thwarted an assassination attempt on Sukhbir Singh Badal at the Golden Temple on December 4. When you really love someone and it's gift-buying time, it's not uncommon to show your love by obsessing over what item or experience demonstrates the depths of your love, procrastinate because of the incredible pressure and end up with something really meaningful, like a gift card. or signup to continue reading It can also be tempting to throw money at the problem - as in ''the more I spend, the more I care''. Dipping into your savings or taking a big financial hit for a gift also brings no guarantee. So how do you achieve the perfect gesture without spending most of December panicking about it? We can't read the minds of your loved ones, but there are psychologists who might get us a bit closer to the win. Here are three questions to ask yourself: 1. What do we have in common? Psychology Professor Elizabeth Dunn says a good place to start is thinking about something you have in common with your recipient, a shared interest or passion like sports, entertainment, a specific brand or product, a certain cuisine, music or a travel destination. "People are better at choosing something for themselves," she says, "so if you have something in common with somebody...something you'd like to receive is more likely to be something they like too." 2. What would make them happy every day? The perfect gift should keep giving long after the holidays are over. People place higher value on gifts they use often, so things you may worry are too practical, like a watch, earphones, a phone cover, Bluetooth speakers, gym bag, a nice moisturiser, a hat or some sunnies may have more mileage than you'd expect. You may not get the big instant reaction, but they'll love you a little bit every day. 3. What's an experience they won't forget? A tidal wave of research in this space has shown that, by far, it's experiences, not material items, that improve our happiness and quality of life. When you're buying, think about what they already enjoy doing - cooking classes, a hiking tour, a night out at a restaurant, snorkelling, or day out on a boat. If they're adventurous, they won't forget a lesson at a surf / wave park or an indoor skydive (with the added bonus of entertainment for you as their audience). If you're off to shop, good luck! And remember: Whilst a new electric toothbrush can certainly say a lot - if you really love someone, don't forget to tell them. DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team.
