Read unlimited articles for free today: Already have an account? ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Alex Ovechkin has not missed many games during his two decades in the NHL with the Washington Capitals, and that remarkable durability is one reason why he is fast-approaching Wayne Gretzky’s career goals record. The Capitals had lost 33 of their 59 games without Ovechkin in the lineup during his first 19 seasons, including 23 of 36 over the past decade. In stark contrast to that, they’ve won six of nine since the 39-year-old captain was sidelined by a broken left fibula — a testament to a roster built not only to help him break the record but prepare the organization for the post-Ovechkin era. “Ovi, he’s a legend, he’s special, he’s always going to probably lead the team in goals and we’re a better team with him, but we’re also a team where I think we’re not necessarily maybe relying on one or two players to win games,” said center Lars Eller, who rejoined the team in a trade from Pittsburgh a month ago. “We have four pretty strong lines, three D pairs and two good goalies. We don’t depend on one or two individuals, and I think that’s the strength of the team.” Depth fortified by the additions of centers Dylan Strome, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Eller, wingers Andrew Mangiapane, Brandon Duhaime and Taylor Raddysh, defensemen Jakob Chychrun, Matt Roy and Rasmus Sandin and goaltenders Charlie Lindgren and Logan Thompson over the past few years has been the key to remaining a playoff contender. Longtime general manager Brian MacLellan, who after the most recent makeover this past summer handed day-to-day duties to Chris Patrick and moved upstairs as president of hockey operations, excelled in keeping Washington’s winning window open with Ovechkin in the second-to-last year of his contract. Veteran defenseman John Carlson said the infusion of talent “really lit a fire under everybody.” The Capitals led the Eastern Conference when Ovechkin got injured Nov. 18, and they remain atop the East more than three weeks into his absence. Fourteen players have scored a goal during this stretch, including six wins and an overtime defeat since losing the first two without him. “We’re a deep group,” said right winger Tom Wilson, the team’s leading scorer during this stretch with nine points on five goals and four assists who expects to continue playing with a shield protecting his face after breaking a small bone in the sinus cavity area on the left side. “Everybody’s kind of stepping up on any given night. It’s a real group effort, and I think guys are really playing for each other.” Carlson, who along with Ovechkin, Wilson and now Eller upon return are the only players left from Washington’s 2018 Stanley Cup championship team, also sees it as a case of younger teammates taking advantage of this chance. “There’s the colossal emptiness of it, but there’s also a lot of opportunity for guys who would never otherwise be there when he’s on this team,” Carlson said. “When someone goes down, it’s obviously always kind of a rallying thing where guys need to step up, guys need to fill in and play bigger roles and play more minutes. But I think the way that our team’s built is depth, and that’s been our strength this year is kind of contributions from everybody.” Ovechkin led all players with 15 goals when he went down, and the Capitals were the high-scoring team in the league at 4.33 goals a game. They still are, down just a tick to an average of 4.04, and their 16 goals from defensemen are a big reason for that after ranking second-last in blue line production last season. “We’re playing to our structure and doing what we want to do out there,” said Chychrun, who has eight points in nine games as part of an impressive start to his contract year. “We’ve got a D corps where everybody’s a really good player on that back end and can play in all situations and two-way guys and guys who have contributed offensively throughout their career.” Another major defense is second-year coach Spencer Carbery, who acknowledged the structure and playing standard as a good place to start but pointed the credit to veteran leaders like Carlson, Strome, Wilson and Nic Dowd for shepherding the Capitals through Ovechkin-less hockey. “They don’t go around the room and go, ‘Hey, we’ve got to do more, guys,’” Carbery said. “They don’t announce it, but what they do is they think about it and go: ‘OK, we’re missing him. I’ve got to step my game up and I need to bring more.’ And that’s not just on the ice, on the power play, on 5 on 6 when we’re defending a lead. It’s not just the Xs and Os. It’s in the locker room. It’s energy in practice. It’s all the things that he brings every day when he’s in the lineup and when he’s practicing.” Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. Ovechkin skated before practice Wednesday and got an assist from longtime running mate Nicklas Backstrom, who stepped away 13 months ago because of a lingering hip injury. Carlson quipped, “I think Ovi wanted someone with a little more skill passing him the rock out there.” The day is coming soon when Ovechkin returns to team drills and then game action. The Capitals are doing more than stay afloat without him, but they’ll welcome him back with open arms the moment he’s ready. As Eller said, “Obviously I think we’re even better when he’s in the lineup.” ___ AP NHL: https://apnews.com/hub/nhl Advertisement Advertisement

Deion Sanders and the No. 16 Colorado Buffaloes will look to add to their four-game winning streak on Saturday as they take on the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 13 of the 2024 college football season. The game is set to be played at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, the home of two-time defending Super Bowl champion, the Kansas City Chiefs. On Friday, just one day before the game, Coach Prime and the Buffaloes arrived at the NFL stadium. As it happens, Kansas City coach Andy Reid was there as well before he and the Chiefs head to Charlotte, North Carolina, to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 12 of the NFL season. A photo was captured of the two popular head coaches having a conversation. Although it is unclear what was said, there is certainly a lot of football knowledge in the one picture. Coach Prime and Andy Reid at Arrowhead 🔥 📷 : @MJBuffsVoice pic.twitter.com/nBABfZ7Tr8 College football and NFL fans alike loved the interaction between the two coaches, taking to social media to leave their thoughts. "Meeting of greats! Deion Sanders and Coach Andy Reid chatting as Colorado stops by Arrowhead ahead of tomorrow’s Game with KU!" said a user. Another user believes Reid and the Chiefs are cooking something big up for the upcoming 2025 NFL draft. "Don’t count out my team Chiefs they always are cooking something up when it comes to the NFL draft Mahomes to Travis and having Xavier worthy on the other side of you," a second fan said . Another is preparing for a big Colorado crowd at Arrowhead on Saturday. "Remember, the Chiefs playing in Missouri. Missouri hates Kansas," wrote a third. A fourth enjoyed the idea of listening in on the conversation between Sanders and Reid. "To be a fly on the wall during that convo..." the fourth commented . Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Coach Prime has the Buffaloes sitting with an 8-2 overall record and 6-1 in Big 12 play heading into the game against the Jayhawks. With a win on Saturday, Colorado would keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive but would still likely need to win out. Meanwhile, Reid, who has been with Kansas City since 2013, and the Chiefs fell to 9-1 after suffering their first loss of the season this past Sunday against the Buffalo Bills but still remain atop the AFC standings. They are looking to bounce back when they face the Panthers on Sunday. Aaron and Sam were complementary in fashion choices, with the Bullet train actor donning a velvet maroon blazer while the Fifty Shades of Grey director wore a maroon sparkly dress. The couple first met when Sam was directing the young actor in the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy in 2009. She was 42 and he was 18 at the time. The pair married in 2012 and have had two children — Wylda, 13, and Romy Hero, 12. In April 2024, Sam brushed off criticism of the age gap, noting that less scrutiny was applied to older men who dated younger woman. “We’re a bit of an anomaly, but it’s that thing: after 14 years you just think, surely by now it doesn’t really matter?” the director told The Guardian . “I’m a great believer that the heart overrides everything. “Love conquers all.” She added the age gap “question” only ever came up when journalists probed her about it. “I mean, it’s coming up now because you’re asking,” she said. “And it comes up on the outside perspective of people who don’t know us, because people will always (talk).” Aaron Taylor-Johnson has vehemently denied in interviews that his wife “groomed” him, arguing that it was he who pursued her. But the director said she had seen some “vicious” comments about their relationship online. “They’re abusive about anything,” she said, adding that it didn’t stop her from looking at social media. “Because it’s just there, but it doesn’t mean anything. “It is just people upset with their own sadness, with misgivings about their own life. “(Our kids) see two loving, happy parents, so it doesn’t really register. “They just think people are a bit mean, or mad.” The couple’s union has outlasted Sam’s marriage to Jay Jopling. “So, if you think of it in that way, then the age gap doesn’t really make any difference,” she said. Speaking to Rolling Stone UK in April 2024, Aaron — who is predicted to star in the next Bond film — slammed critics of their age gap, noting that by the time he was 18 he was well and truly an adult. “What most people were doing in their twenties, I was doing when I was 13,” he said. “You’re doing something too quickly for someone else? I don’t understand that. “What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? “It’s bizarre to me.”

Ivan Barbashev scores in overtime to lift the Golden Knights past the Jets, 3-2CHENNAI: Amidst severe criticism from various political parties over his whiplash agitation, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai on Saturday said his action should be likened to that of a "brother's primal anger" over the sexual assault of his sister. His action should not be viewed as political but ought to be seen as an elder brother's outburst over the "system failure" in the state, Annamalai said a day after he staged a unique whiplash agitation of flogging himself to condemn the ruling DMK and the state police over the handling of the case of sexual assault on a Chennai college student. "Don't see me as a political party leader but see me as the affected girl's elder brother. It's (inflicting whiplash on himself) like primal anger of a brother because the system has failed," Annamalai told reporters at the airport here when sought for his reaction. "Has the police been impartial in handling the case? No. There was no chance for the FIR to get leaked. How did it get leaked?" the BJP president asked. He lashed himself several times with a whip in front of his house in Coimbatore demanding justice for the Anna University student who was sexually assaulted on Christmas Eve. The police had arrested the suspect in the case. Several political parties including the ruling DMK had mocked Annamalai for the agitation which was also to dislodge the DMK government . He had vowed not to wear sandals till the DMK was dethroned and had even begun a 48-day ritual for a pilgrimage to Murugan temples. Also, he justified his stance on the issue. He said the "system has deteriorated" in the state. Former Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan and BJP members were arrested when they staged a protest demanding justice for the affected girl student. "So I was constrained to take up this agitation. I have taken up the issue with a religious zeal," Annamalai said. Stay updated with the latest news on Times of India . In a video captured by Fox Sports and posted to social media, Cecil can be seen banging his bare forehead into Gross's helmet until he begins to bleed profusely. Unfortunately for everyone involved, Arizona allowed rival Arizona State to score 35 points in the first half of the in-state rivalry game, which led to some jokes made at Cecil's expense. The Wildcats entered the contest 4-7 on the season and won't play in a bowl game this year. What was left for Arizona was to play spoiler to the 9-2 Sun Devils, who have a chance to make the 12-team field for the College Football Playoffs , though an upset doesn't appear likely now after a 35-0 first half score. No, Voice of America is not a new government organizationBike Bags Market Future Outlook, COVID-19 Impact Analysis, Forecast - 2031 12-28-2024 02:56 PM CET | Business, Economy, Finances, Banking & Insurance Press release from: Orion Market Research Bike Bags Market The global bike bag market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 6.3% during the forecast period. Bike bags fit under the bicycle seat and usually attach to the rails of the saddle itself. Larger models can carry a few extra items while traveling. There are lots of options, with cycling-specific backpacks offering plenty of capacity and stability in the market. Many cycling packs are lightweight, waterproof, and feature a roll-top for easy opening. Many packs, such as the Ortlieb Velocity, come in multiple color options too, or in patterned fabrics. While road trips, bike packing bags assist in carrying stuff such as a sleeping bag, spare clothing, and a bivvy sack. The bike bag market growth is backed by the increasing inclination of people toward outdoor recreational activities such as cycling, camping, hiking, and others. Get Free Sample link @ https://www.omrglobal.com/request-sample/bike-bag-market Since the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for bicycles has increased due to the closure of gyms and swimming pools in many regions. Some nations rewarded the purchase of new bikes or bike maintenance expenditures in a bid to encourage ridership during the pandemic. Italy, for instance, allocated $250 million toward a cash-back Programme through which Italian residents who purchased a vehicle without an engine such as a bicycle were eligible for a $590 stipend, while France has established a similar Programme. This has increased people to adopt bicycles along with accessories such as bags. Apart from these, rising heightened anxiety over public transportation and a surge in exercise has meant that more and more people are choosing to use one of the most basic forms of mobility such as biking, which in turn led to the product demand. Full report of Bike Bags Market available @ https://www.omrglobal.com/industry-reports/bike-bag-market Segmental Outlook The global bike bag market is segmented based on the material type, design, and distribution channel. Based on the material type, the market is sub-segmented into polyester, fabric, leather, and others. Among these, the leather segment is likely to hold a lucrative share in the market during the forecast period. Leather is considered an excellent material for making products for bikes due to its durability, and sturdiness, and can withstand almost any type of weather, and features. This versatility makes them for many people the best way to carry more gear. Based on the design, the market is classified into panniers, handlebars, saddles, trunks, frames, and others. Among these, the panniers segment is projected to show the fastest growth in the market. Panniers are a utilitarian solution for carrying luggage. Such type of bike bags takes the complete luggage weight and provides comfort to biker by reducing the burden on their shoulders. In addition, these bags also allow a rider to carry far more in terms of both weight and volume compared to using a backpack. Owing to these benefits, the demand for pannier bags is high, and it is further expected to increase during the forecast period. Based on the distribution channel, it is further sub-segmented into online and offline. Regional Outlook Geographically, the global bike bag market is classified into major regions including North America (the US and Canada), Europe (UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the Rest of Europe), Asia-Pacific (India, China, Japan, South Korea, and Rest of Asia-Pacific), and Rest of the World (Latin America and the Middle East and Africa (MEA)). Europe is predicted to show impressive growth in the market due to rapid growth in cycling culture in the region's major economies. In Finland, 60% population was reported to use bicycles in 2019. Moreover, almost a quarter of the Dutch population cycles every day. Altogether the Dutch own 22.5 million bicycles. This means that on average they own 1.3 bicycles per capita in 2018. In addition, people in Netherland also take part in various cycling events and tournaments which creates demand for high-end bike bags. Reasons to Buying From us - 1. BOULDER, Colo. — A 72-year-old lifelong Colorado fan with end-stage kidney failure waited to the side of the field in his wheelchair for Travis Hunter and the rest of the Buffaloes. One by one, players strolled over and signed a football for Riley Rhoades, his face lighting up with each signature. Standing close by and taking in the scene was Jeremy Bloom. He's become a wish facilitator for older adults. Bloom, the former Colorado wide receiver and Olympic freestyle skier, started the Wish of a Lifetime foundation in 2008, which has made thousands of aspirations turn into reality for older adults. The list of granted wishes range from taking veterans back to the beaches of Normandy to helping late-in-life authors publish a book. He's staged concerts for musicians, assisted some in daredevil feats such as jumping out of an airplane and even lined up a meeting between an Olympic medalist and former President Barack Obama. For Rhoades, his wish was simply to return to Folsom Field again, the place where he used to have season tickets but hasn't attended a game since 2004. "Everybody has somebody in their life —a grandparent, friend, neighbor — at that age where you wish you had more resources to help," said Bloom, whose college career was cut short two decades ago when the NCAA denied his reinstatement to play football and still ski professionally after receiving endorsement money to fuel his Olympic dreams. "Nothing can compare to seeing someone else's eyes light up because you helped make their dream come true." The foundation is a tribute to his grandparents. But the concept began to take root when he was a teenager. He was in Japan for a World Cup freestyle skiing competition when a woman tried to hop on a crowded bus. There was no room, but everyone in front rose from their seats to make space. That stuck with him, along with seeing these acts of kindness for older adults all over Europe and Asia as he traveled. An idea formed — bring that same level of appreciation to the United States, with a wish-granting element. Bloom's organization has been a charitable affiliate of AARP since 2020. It was the yearning of Rhoades that brought the two of them to Folsom Field last weekend. Rhoades, who had season tickets at Colorado for 27 years, wanted to see the Buffaloes in person after watching the team's resurgence on television. A few years ago, Rhoades, who was born with spina bifida, was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. Being among the 54,646 fans Saturday stirred up plenty of emotions for Rhoades, as he watched the 16th-ranked Buffaloes (8-2, 6-1 Big 12, No. 16 CFP) beat Utah. Colorado remains in the race for not only a conference title but a spot in the College Football Playoff. "It's just great to be back here again," Rhoades said as he pointed out the section where he used to watch games. "It's just ... so cool." For Bloom, the success that coach Deion Sanders has brought to the program means more reunions with teammates as they pass through town. "I've been through many years where nobody comes to visit," Bloom said. "It's fun that Boulder has become the epicenter of college football." Leading the way for Colorado this season have been quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Hunter, who's the Heisman Trophy frontrunner. But what particularly pleases Bloom is that Sanders, Hunter and the rest of college football players are able to finally profit through name, image and likeness. In his day, Bloom got caught in the NCAA crosshairs for wanting to play both sports and to have sponsors in one (skiing) so he could fund his Olympic aspirations. How time have changed. "I'm just really grateful that this generation of athletes gets to monetize their skills and ability," said Bloom, who finished sixth in moguls at the 2006 Winter Games in Italy. "It's the right thing." He's thrown his passion into fulfilling wishes such as learning ballet, riding in a Formula 1 pace car or taking a flight in a fighter jet. He's also helped reconnect families and friends, including a reunion for a trio of centenarian sisters who hadn't seen each other in more than a decade. This granted wish has stuck with Bloom: A person in Alabama wasn't able to travel after being diagnosed with end-of-life emphysema. So he asked for postcards to be sent, just to learn what made someone's town so special. He received 2,000 postcards from 26 different countries. "There's no end to the things that they've done for us in the world," Bloom said of older adults. "We're one of the organizations that reminds them that their dreams still do matter and that we still appreciate them and we cherish them." Get local news delivered to your inbox!

As the snow painted the field at Elwood Olsen Stadium the Mustangs relied on bolstering runs from running back Max Hough, who refused to meet the turf, and their swarming defense to pile on the visiting Pioneers. Logan Shanks While MidAmerica Nazarene struggled all day to find its footing on offense, with the pressure from the Mustangs not helping in the frozen tundra, running back Max Hough had no issues. “Wasn’t too bad after you clean your shoes off,” Hough said. The sophomore tailback finished the game with 149 rushing yards, including three scores on the ground to lead the Mustangs offense to their commanding win over the Pioneers. He consistently shook off Pioneer defenders and made moves in open space to extend runs, finishing the game averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Hough was named the most games most outstanding offensive player, coming up in a big for the Mustangs who were in search for their first postseason win since 2022. He ripped off touchdown runs of 23 and 13 to go along with his longest run of the day which came in the third quarter. “[MidAmerican Nazarene] were coming down hard and when our o-line picked up like they did it just made big holes that were easy to see,” Hough said. Injuries to the running back room propelled Hough up the depth chart at the midway point of the season, with his performances backing the trust of his teammates and coaches. Logan Shanks “[Hough] starts the season he is our fourth running back,” Morningside head coach Steve Ryan said. “All of a sudden here he is at the end of the year and he is probably a 1,000 yard back now and he’s got all those touchdowns. You always talk about next man up and all those things and [Hough] has really stepped up.” Following Saturday's second round 'snowdown', Hough eclipsed the millennium mark with 1,051 rushing yards and a dozen touchdowns in 11 games. “It feels good to just be on the field,” Hough said. “Stepping up, I knew I could do it. Team was very supportive too a long the way, offensive line makes it easy too.” Morningside Zack Chevalier (15) uncorks a pass in the Mustangs' 35-0 win against Mid America Nazarene in a second round matchup of the NAIA Football Championship Series on Saturday, November 29, 2024 in Sioux City, IA.. Chevalier finished the day 18-32 for 186 yards and one touchdown. Logan Shanks While Hough was complimented by gunslinging redshirt junior quarterback Zack Chevalier, who finished the game completing 56% of his passes for 186 yards and a touchdown, the Mustangs faced offensive lulls. Despite leading just 14-0 at halftime, the game felt more in control of Morningside thanks to its shatterproof defense that continued to halt the Pioneers. MidAmerica Nazarene was stuffed on seven of its eight third down attempts in the first half and finished the game a combined 3-for-22 on third and fourth downs. Coming out of halftime, it felt like Morningside was a second late to forcing a mistake off of Pioneers quarterback Adrian Parsons. Its front seven had been forcing him out of the pocket, and the secondary was not letting up big plays, but a big play was needed to put the game decisively in favor of the Mustangs. First team all-Great Plains Athletic Conference defensive back Dijion Walls saw his opportunity on the Pioneers debut drive of the second half and didn't let it go to waste. Parsons zipped a ball from the Mustangs six-yard line down the middle of the field, where Walls caught the ball in stride and marched down the field. “I just looked at the quarterback,” Walls said. “I know that probably what I wasn’t supposed to do but I seen the ball and I went to go make a play.” Mustang defensive back Dijion Walls (6) picks off a pass and returns it 100 yards for a touchdown in Morningside's 35-0 victory over Mid America Nazarene in a second round matchup of the NAIA Football Championship Series on Saturday, November 29, 2024 in Sioux City, IA.. Logan Shanks A program record 100-yards later, Walls returned the ball to the opposite endzone to put the Mustangs up 21-0 to heavily swing momentum in his team's favor. “I thought that was the play of the game,” Ryan said. “We came out and we sputtered on that first drive and they took it all the way down. To make that interception in the endzone and take it 100 yards was really exciting to see.” Walls now sits with seven interceptions on the season and continues to come up big for Morningside's secondary which held the usually elite Parsons to 183 yards and two picks. “[Walls] likes the big moment,” Ryan said. “It is part of the nature of being the corner. He always draws the toughest assignments. He just loves those opportunities, he lives for those opportunities. He stepped up big today.” The energizing pick-six from Walls was the highlight of Morningside's lockdown defensive performance, which benefited heavily from 7.5 tackles for loss and five quarterback hits. The Mustangs clinched their fourth straight game allowing fewer than 10 points and look to keep up their stonewall ways in the quarterfinals. “They kept playing,” Ryan said. “They didn’t give up big plays on defense and kept them out of the offense.” “This is a huge one but we are on to the next one,” Walls said.
