Could Salesforce and Adobe Help Power the Low-Cost Vanguard Tech ETF to an All-Time High?

Soon after the Election Commission announced the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly polls on October 15, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) working president and chief minister Hemant Soren and his legislator wife Kalpana Soren met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. Also Read: How did the JMM win Jharkhand? At that meeting, Hemant Soren discussed the poll strategy and seat-sharing formula for the INDIA bloc, batting for the inclusion of the CPI-ML (Liberation) in the coalition to make the contest bipolar in the two-phased assembly elections. “Our leadership agreed to the plan and decided that Hemant will have (the) final word in campaign and seat sharing. It was also decided that in some seats there would be friendly contests,” a Congress leader aware of the matter said. To accommodate three seats to the CPI-ML (Liberation), the Congress agreed to give away two seats and be in a friendly fight in one seat. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) also agreed to part with one seat and be in a friendly fight in another. The JMM contested 43 seats, same as it did in the 2019 polls, while the Congress and the RJD fielded their candidates in 30 and seven constituencies, respectively, both accepting one seat less than what they contested five years ago. “Unlike Maharashtra, there was no wrangling over seat sharing in Jharkhand and it was finalised before the nomination process started,” a senior JMM leader said. After the JMM-led INDIA bloc registered an emphatic victory in the assembly polls on Saturday, winning 56 of the state’s 81 seats, Soren told reporters in Ranchi that the alliance had set specific target and many candidates were decided before hand to start the campaign early. “All alliance partners worked in perfect coordination,” he added. Also Read: Infiltration pitch fails to help BJP in Jharkhand tribal belt The impact of the “perfect coordination” was visible in poll results, as the JMM won 34 seats, four more than it won in 2019, the Congress won 16, same as it did five years ago, the RJD won four seats, three more than in the last assembly polls and the CPI-ML won two seats. Political observers maintained that each constituent of the alliance brought something different to the table. The JMM brought in the support of tribals and OBC voters, the Congress had strong backing among the Muslim community, the RJD brought the support of the OBC Yadav and migrants from Bihar settled in North Chotanagpur Division while the CPI-ML has strong backing among workers in the state’s coal belt. “The JMM-Congress alliance performed well in consolidating their vote bank including Adivasis, Muslims, Mahtos and Yadavs,” political analyst Sudhir Pal said. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Pal stressed, failed to strike a chord with the voters as it was dependent too much on leaders from outside the state instead of locals. “The BJP seems to have failed to take full advantage of tribal leaders like Champai Soren and Sita Soren who had left the JMM and joined the saffron camp,” Pal added. Also Read: Maiya Samman scheme helps JMM surge ahead in Jharkhand elections The JMM-Congress alliance pegged its campaign on the government’s welfare schemes such as the Maiya Samman Yojana while pitching a narrative of Adivasi asmita (tribal pride). The INDIA bloc was able to project that arrest of Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged land case earlier this year was the BJP’s attack on tribal pride, prompting high turnout of tribal voters. On ground, all alliance leaders were speaking in one voice and did not speak against each other. In fact, Hemant and Kalpana Soren campaigned for their alliance partners and same was the case with local Congress and RJD leaders. “Specific duties were given to leaders of each alliance partner in each assembly constituency to ensure smooth transfer of votes,” a senior JMM leader said. Experts also said the Congress and the JMM have learnt a big lesson from the past as their tally increased when they fought in an alliance. In 2014, the JMM bagged 19 seats but its tally shot up to 30 in 2019. Similarly, the Congress’s tally increased from six seats in 2014 to 16 in 2019. The JMM and Congress contested separately in the 2014 assembly polls. “The JMM, RJD and Congress put up a united show during the campaign. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav could be seen campaigning for Congress candidate Purnima Niraj Singh in Jharia. When it came to the BJP, they not only failed to project a face of the chief minister but also failed to highlight big names such as Champai Soren outside his own assembly,” Pal added.None

With only five weeks remaining in the NFL regular season, we’re not only thinking about the playoff picture but about the 2025 NFL Draft , as well. While it may seem like a foregone conclusion that the worst teams are just going to keep losing every week, and some of them will, we can’t forget that unpredictable upsets happen — or nearly happen — every week. GO DEEPER 2025 NFL mock draft: Predicting all 32 first-round picks in polarizing class Look all the way back to last week. The Las Vegas Raiders were one bounce away from taking down the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs . Yes, the team that my NFL projection model says has the best chance at landing the first overall pick was that close to beating the team with the best record ... on the road! But the Raiders weren’t the only bottom-feeder close to a victory last week. The New York Giants , Jacksonville Jaguars , New England Patriots , New York Jets , Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns were all within one score at the final whistle. And at this point in the season, one win can swing the odds drastically. Advertisement So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at which teams are most likely to secure the coveted No. 1 pick. Six teams have at least a 4% chance of snagging it, and while two teams are leading the way by a large margin, there are still some huge games to be played between some of these “contenders.” Las Vegas Raiders Raiders’ odds of picking No. 1: 30% When we did this exercise a few weeks ago, the Raiders were at 30%, so they’ve stayed “on track.” The Raiders face three playoff teams down the stretch — one is Week 18, and who knows if the Chargers will have anything to play for — but the Raiders’ fate will hang heavily on their Week 16 game against the Jaguars. The Jaguars not having quarterback Trevor Lawrence , whom they placed on IR, is a huge factor, but just by nature of these teams playing one another (practically) guarantees one of these teams will have at least three wins after that matchup. As it stands right now, my projections make the Raiders favorites to win. New York Giants Giants’ odds of picking No. 1: 30% The Giants are a big riser in these odds over the past few weeks, as they’ve seen their chances double. A big reason why is that QB Daniel Jones is no longer with the team, while superstar defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is out for the year . In short, the Giants were already bad, and they’re only getting worse. GO DEEPER New York Giants survey results: Fans have lost faith in Brian Daboll, Joe Schoen But a major reason why their odds are so high now is that they have no easy games the rest of the way. They play the Saints this week, and that’s the best chance they have to win a game for the rest of the season. After the Saints, all four remaining games are against teams in the playoff hunt, with two of them coming on the road. Jacksonville Jaguars Jaguars’ odds of picking No. 1: 15% The Jaguars are maybe the most interesting team when it comes to the draft order. As mentioned above, they have a huge Week 16 matchup with the Raiders that will swing their odds a good bit. But that’s not all. They also have two matchups against the lowly Tennessee Titans and the disastrous New York Jets. Even without Lawrence, those are winnable games, which is why their odds to pick first aren’t as good despite being one of the worst teams in the league. In four of their five remaining games, they still have a better than 30% chance to win. New England Patriots Patriots’ odds of picking No. 1: 11% Have you seen the Patriots’ schedule the rest of the way? It’s not great, well, unless you want a better draft pick. Drake Maye has been awesome as a rookie QB , all things considered, but four games remaining against playoff teams, including two matchups with the Bills , is a gantlet. Sure, one of those Bills games is Week 18, but as of now, the Bills are still in contention for a first-round bye and will be trying to win that game. It’s very possible the Patriots lose their final four games. But because they have three wins already, they’ll need some “help” if they’re going to pick No. 1. New York Jets Jets’ odds of picking No. 1: 5% The Jets’ odds have seen a 2% increase over the past three weeks, and they are now the sixth-most likely team to pick No. 1. It’s safe to say the Aaron Rodgers-era in New York has been nothing short of a disaster, and a better draft pick will be a small silver lining. Jets fans should be rooting for the Dolphins to beat the Jets this week and to keep winning games so that their Week 18 matchup means something. That will only help the Jets’ draft stock. Otherwise, the schedule works out pretty decently with tough matchups against the Rams and Bills. However, their Week 15 matchup with the Jaguars will be huge for where they land in the pecking order. I still think the Jets are a bit too talented to keep losing, but you just never know with this team. Maybe they’ve already packed it in. Carolina Panthers Panthers’ odds of picking No. 1: 4% The resurgence of QB Bryce Young has given the Panthers quite the boost by my model’s projections, which has hurt their odds of landing the top pick. But I think that’s a good trade-off for Carolina. The Panthers needed to know if it was worth giving Young another shot next year, and I think the last month or so has given them that confidence. GO DEEPER NFL QB stock report, Week 14: Insight into Bryce Young's revival; Kirk Cousins still Falcons' QB1? They have four games remaining against playoff-hopeful teams that should keep their win total low. Still, this team has been feisty for about a month now — the Panthers nearly beat the Chiefs and Bucs — so don’t be surprised if they steal a game or two. Activating Your Credit Card? Don’t Skip the Mobile Wallet StepBrock Purdy and Nick Bosa are not available for the San Francisco 49ers when they enter Green Bay with designs on finding their finishing kick on Sunday afternoon. Purdy is out with a right shoulder injury and won't leave the sideline at Lambeau Field, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday, when he also declared Bosa out and confirmed journeyman Brandon Allen would make his 10th career start at quarterback. "Outside of here people haven't seen a lot of Brandon. But it's his second year (with the 49ers)," Shanahan said. "Obviously guys want Brock up, but guys are excited to see Brandon play." Shanahan said the 49ers are "a little surprised" Purdy experienced tightness and discomfort in his shoulder after an MRI exam on Monday that showed no long-term cause for concern. "The way it responded this week, it's really up in the air for next week," Shanahan said of Purdy's long-term prognosis. Allen's last NFL start on the road was with the Bengals at the Ravens in 2020. Allen completed 6 of 21 passes for 48 yards with two interceptions. He finished with a passer rating of 0.0 in a 38--3 loss. "It's definitely an opportunity for me to go out and play well and put our guys in a good position to win the game," Allen said Friday. "And obviously we want Brock back and healthy and all that, but for time being, it is an opportunity for me." Purdy took the practice field Thursday with the intent to participate. His shoulder tightened significantly, and the 49ers ushered him off the field to meet with trainers. Purdy beat the Packers in the NFC divisional playoffs at San Francisco in January, but Allen is familiar to Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. LaFleur was an assistant coach with the Rams during Allen's two-year run in Los Angeles. Allen broke into the NFL in 2016 with the Jaguars and is 2-7 in nine career starts. He went 1-2 with the Broncos in 2019 and 1-5 in six starts over two years with the Bengals in 2020 and ‘21. A victory against the visiting 49ers on Sunday would bolster the Packers' playoff chances, send a conference rival below .500 and avenge a bitter playoff defeat. Those seemingly rank in no particular order for the Packers (8-3), although they don't shy from living at least partially in the past ahead of a Week 12 showdown. San Francisco eliminated Green Bay 24-21 in the NFC divisional playoffs last season, scoring 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. "That's what you've got to sit with all offseason, is going back, watching the game, trying to see what you could have done better," Packers quarterback Jordan Love said. "What you could have done differently in that game. ... Just knowing that's the team that knocked us out, we're definitely hungry for this game." Ditto for San Francisco. The 49ers fell to 5-5 after last week's 20-17 home loss to Seattle, done in by Geno Smith's 13-yard touchdown run with 12 seconds to play. Still only a game behind NFC West-leading Arizona, the reigning conference champion 49ers are just 1-3 in division play and can ill afford to lose more ground. A visit to AFC East leader Buffalo awaits after the trip to Green Bay. While they're dealing with plenty of not-so-good news on the injury front, the 49ers do anticipate the return of other contributors. Cornerback Charvarius Ward, who missed the past two games following the death of his 1-year-old daughter, practiced Wednesday. Tight end George Kittle also is eager to play after a nagging hamstring injury sidelined him against the Seahawks. "Very excited," Kittle said. "Can't pass up playing the Packers, so no, I will be out there for sure." Allen was a three-year starter at Arkansas but has been a journeyman backup since entering the NFL in 2016 as the 201st overall pick of the Jaguars. Shanahan and LaFleur have been fierce competitors since twice working together, first as low-level assistants with the Texans in 2008, then on the so-called "dream team" staff in Washington that also included Sean McVay, Mike McDaniel and Raheem Morris; and two seasons with the Falcons (2015, 2016) where LaFleur was quarterbacks coach and Shanahan called the plays. Shanahan scored the most recent win over LaFleur in January. Green Bay has won seven of the past eight regular-season meetings between the franchises. But the familiarity and shared-brain approach to offense that has the coaches completed each other's play calls has led to some tight games. The past three at Lambeau Field were all decided by three points. Green Bay, which hosts a home game on Thanksgiving next Thursday, is starting a run of three games in 12 days. They'll play back-to-back Thursday games. Their Week 14 game is at Detroit. That might make it good news for LaFleur that surprising contributors have emerged of late. Packers wideout Christian Watson had a career-best 150 receiving yards on only four catches during last week's 20-19 road win against the Chicago Bears. His diving 60-yard reception in the fourth quarter put the Packers in position for Love's go-ahead, 1-yard scoring run with 2:59 to play. Watson entered the game with eight catches for 83 yards over his previous three contests, but LaFleur assured Watson remains a "big part" of the attack. "He's a guy who's got every measurable known to man in terms of the size, the speed, and it's not like those were easy plays he was making," LaFleur said. "He was making tough, contested catches." San Francisco will aim to generate more pressure against Love than the Bears, who sacked him just once. The 49ers collected four sacks against the Seahawks, with Bosa and Leonard Floyd contributing 1.5 apiece. Recent regular-season history between the Packers and 49ers at Lambeau Field has favored Green Bay. The Packers have won seven of their past eight home games against the 49ers and are 22-11 versus San Francisco at home all-time. Green Bay leads the series 34-28-1. --Field Level Media

Bizman files defamation case against KTRThe Race for the N.F.L.’s No. 1 Pick Is Down to 6 TeamsVICTORIA — British Columbia Premier David Eby says Canada's premiers and the federal government have hatched a game plan over possible U.S. tariffs, where Conservative premiers lobby their Republican counterparts and left-leaning leaders court the Democrats, while the federal government focuses on president-elect Donald Trump. Eby says the premiers and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau talked about using their political diversity and connections to approach politicians and business leaders in the United States, as talks over Trump's proposed 25 per cent tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico ramp up. He says it has been discussed that Conservative premiers Danielle Smith in Alberta, Doug Ford in Ontario and Nova Scotia's Tim Houston are well-placed to lobby their contacts with Republican governors and business leaders. In a year-end interview, Eby says as a New Democrat leader he will likely have more in common speaking with Democrat governors and business leaders from the West Coast states. He says Canada's diversity of representation, ranging from the right and left sides of the political spectrum, can bring leverage and advantages in tariff talks. Eby also says — if it is deemed helpful — he is prepared to appear on American's right-leaning Fox News TV network as did premiers Ford and Smith. Lawyer says ex-Temple basketball standout Hysier Miller met with NCAA for hours amid gambling probeTRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A large number of mysterious drones have been reported flying over New Jersey and across the eastern U.S., sparking speculation and concern over where they came from and why. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and U.S. Sen. Andy Kim have both gone out on drone hunts, hoping for answers. The FBI, Homeland Security, state police and other agencies are investigating. Murphy and law enforcement officials have stressed that the drones don’t appear to be a threat to public safety , but many state and municipal lawmakers have nonetheless called for stricter rules about who can fly the unmanned aircraft — and to be allowed to shoot them out of the sky. Dozens of witnesses have reported seeing drones statewide since mid-November, including near the Picatinny Arsenal, a military research and manufacturing facility, and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. Murphy, a Democrat, said Monday that equipment supplied by the federal government has yielded little new information. He declined to describe the equipment except to say it was powerful and could even “mitigate” the drones, though he added that’s not currently legal on U.S. soil. The state tallied 12 sightings Saturday and just one on Sunday. Murphy urged Congress to give states more authority to deal with the drones. The growing anxiety among some residents is not lost on the Biden administration, which has faced criticism from Trump for not dealing with the matter more aggressively. White House national security spokesman John Kirby on Monday said the federal government has yet to identify any public safety or national security risks from reported drone sightings in the northeast, saying officials believe they were lawfully flown drones, planes or even stars. “There are more than 1 million drones that are lawfully registered with the Federal Aviation Administration here in the United States,” Kirby said. “And there are thousands of commercial, hobbyist and law enforcement drones that are lawfully in the sky on any given day. That is the ecosystem that we are dealing with.” The federal government has deployed personnel and advanced technology to investigate the reports in New Jersey and other states, and is evaluating each tip reported by citizens, he said. The FBI received more than 5000 tips in recent weeks, he added, with only “about 100” deemed credible enough to require additional investigation. Authorities say they do not know. The Department of Homeland Security and FBI said they have no evidence that the aircraft pose “a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus.” Speculation has nevertheless raged online, with some expressing concerns that the drones could be part of a nefarious plot by foreign agents. Officials stress that ongoing investigations have found no evidence to support such concerns, but U.S. Rep Chris Smith, a Republican, on Saturday echoed such speculation. “The elusive maneuvering of these drones suggests a major military power sophistication that begs the question whether they have been deployed to test our defense capabilities — or worse — by violent dictatorships, perhaps maybe Russia, or China, or Iran, or North Korea,” he said. On Monday, Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder cast doubt on the idea that the drones are engaged in intelligence gathering, given how loud and bright they are. He said about 1 million drones are registered drones in the U.S. and about 8,000 flying on any given day. Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh has said the aircraft are not U.S. military drones. In Boston, city police arrested two men accused of operating a drone “dangerously close” to Logan Airport on Saturday night. Authorities said an officer using drone monitoring technology detected the aircraft and the location of the operators. A third man fled police and remains at large. Authorities said the two men face trespassing charges and could face more charges and fines. Drones flying around Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio, forced base officials to close its airspace for about four hours late Friday into early Saturday, said Robert Purtiman, a base spokesperson. It was the first time drones had been spotted at the base, one of the largest in the world, and no sightings have been reported since, Purtiman said Monday. He said the drones had no impact on any facilities on the base. Trump has said he believes the government knows more than it’s saying. “Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!” he posted on Truth Social. Kim said he’s heard no support for the notion the government is hiding anything. He said a lack of faith in institutions is playing a key part in the saga. “Nothing that I’m seeing, nothing that I’ve engaged in gives me any impression of that nature. But like, I get it, some people won’t believe me, right? Because that’s the level of distrust that we face," Kim said Monday. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut last week called for the drones to be “shot down." Rep. Smith urged the Pentagon to authorize the use of force to bring down one or more drones to try to figure out who deployed them. The objects could be downed over the ocean or in an unpopulated area on land, Smith said Saturday. “Why can't we bag at least one of these drones and get to the bottom of it?” Smith said. Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden said members of the public must not try to shoot down drones, as that would violate state and federal laws. Drone sightings were also reported in New York, where a permit is required. Mayor Eric Adams said the city was investigating and collaborating with New Jersey and federal officials. The runways at Stewart International Airport — about 60 miles (100 kilometers) north of the city — were shut down for about an hour Friday night because of drone activity, Gov. Kathy Hochul said. “This has gone too far,” she said in a statement. The governor called on Congress to strengthen the FAA’s oversight of drones and give more investigative authority to state and local law enforcement. Associated Press writers John Seewer in Toledo, Ohio; Bruce Schreiner in Shelbyville, Kentucky; and Aamer Madhani in West Palm Beach, Florida, contributed. The Darian DeVries era at West Virginia may only be five games old, but it already has a signature victory. WVU’s first-year men’s basketball coach and his Mountaineers knocked off No. 3 Gonzaga, 86-78, in overtime Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. DeVries was grinning from ear-to-ear after the victory when he sat down for his postgame interview with the Mountaineer Sports Network crew. “I’m smiling because I’ve got glasses and can read the stat sheet, and it says we won. This is awesome,” beamed the normally reserved coach. With the upset, WVU improved to 4-1 on the young season. West Virginia moves on in the winners’ bracket of the tournament and will meet Louisville (4-1) in the second round at noon on Thursday (ESPN). The Cardinals pulled off their own first-round upset Wednesday, blasting No. 14 Indiana (4-1), 89-61. Ranked No. 3 in the country, Gonzaga had previously been a perfect 5-0 this season. It was also a perfect 5-0 in past meetings with West Virginia, dating back to the first contest between the two in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Certainly defeating a highly-rated opponent is never easy. West Virginia came to the Bahamas with just a 13-43 all-time record against foes ranked in the top three in the A.P. poll. That included a 3-21 mark against those ranked No. 3, though it did pull off a 91-85 upset over third-ranked Kansas at the WVU Coliseum last season. Despite those long odds, the Mountaineers added another top-three victory to their resume Wednesday. “We’ve been telling the guys all summer and fall to keep putting in the work and believing in themselves, and they’ve been doing that,” stated DeVries. “We’re going to continue to grow together. We’ll have some bumps in the road too, but I love the way they competed and fought tonight. They had opportunities to give in, but they refused to do that.” Despite not shooting particularly well in the early portion of the game, West Virginia stayed fairly close in the first half. WVU led 16-15 eight minutes into the contest, but then Gonzaga went on a 10-0 run. GU would remain on top the rest of the half, as the Mountaineers went cold, missing eight-of-nine field goal attempts during a nine-minute stretch. For the half, West Virginia made just nine-of-30 shots (30%) and six-of-18 3-point tries (33.3%). But the Mountaineers limited their turnovers in the first 20 minutes to just six against the high-pressure Gonzaga defense and kept the rebounding battle fairly close (18 GU, 16 WVU) against the bigger Zags. Because of all that, West Virginia trailed at halftime but by just a 39-31 count. It was only the second time in its first six games this season that Gonzaga hasn’t enjoyed a double figures halftime lead – a 38-38 tie against Arizona State in an eventual 88-80 GU victory being the only other. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 10 points in the early going of the second half, but then it was WVU’s turn to go on a run, racing off 12 straight points to move in front 45-43 five minutes into the period. The two went toe-to-toe from there. West Virginia enjoyed a five-point advantage a couple of different times, but Gonzaga kept battling back. The Zags led by five with 20 seconds left in the second half, but a Tucker DeVries 3-pointer was quickly followed by a midcourt steal from the senior forward. That led to a pair of clutch made free throws by DeVries, which tied the game at 71-71 with 5.9 seconds remaining in regulation. GU didn’t get a shot off in its game-winning chance, and the clubs headed into overtime. West Virginia quickly pushed in front in the opening moments of the five-minute OT session. It eventually extended its advantage to four, then six, then eight points, and by the end, it was celebrating a huge victory over a ranked foe. Four Mountaineers scored in double figures, led by Javon Small’s 31 points. Amani Hansberry had 19 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Tucker DeVries added 16 points, as well as six rebounds, four assists, four blocks and two steals. Toby Okani chipped in 10 points. Braden Huff came off the bench to lead Gonzaga’s scoring effort with 19 points. West Virginia's Javon Small Darian DeVries and Tucker DeVries share the prioritis in WVU's game plan and how the execution came together in their 86-78 win over No. 3 Gonzaga Gonzaga head coach Mark Few and players Ryan Nembhard and Braden Huff share details on a couple of critical breakdowns, and a missed chance for a timeout, that helped WVU knock them off in the Battle 4 Atlantis

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday held a wide-ranging news conference in which he said he would preserve access to the polio vaccine but equivocated on other vaccines, pledged to look at bringing down the costs of pharmaceuticals and expressed doubts that his daughter-in-law might be Florida's next senator. Trump held forth for over an hour, the first time he took questions from reporters since winning the election. The event harkens back to his long-winding news conferences from his first term and is a stark contrast from President Joe Biden , who doesn't often take questions from reporters. Here's a look at some of what he touched on: Trump defended his choice for health secretary, prominent vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. , but said he personally is a “big believer” in the polio vaccine and would preserve access to it. “You’re not going to lose the polio vaccine," he said. “That’s not going to happen.” Over the weekend, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who had polio as a child, spoke out in defense of the polio vaccine after a recent report disclosed that one of Kennedy's advisers filed a petition to revoke approval for the polio vaccine in 2022. Kennedy has long advanced the debunked idea that vaccines cause autism. Trump seemed to question whether there’s a link, saying “We’re looking to find out,” and remarked on the rising cases of autism being diagnosed. “There’s something wrong, and we’re going to find out about it,” he said. There are no blood or biological tests for autism; instead, a doctor bases the diagnosis on a child’s behavior. While the autism diagnosis has been available for at least 80 years, the definition gradually expanded to include milder cases, which are more common. A study last year found that about a quarter of kids with autism — about 110,000 in the U.S. — have the most severe version of the developmental disability, which has left them unable to speak or with an IQ below 50 or both. Of Kennedy, “He’s going to be much less radical than you would think," he said. "I think he’s got a very open mind, or I wouldn’t have put him there.” Trump described a dinner he had this month with Kennedy; Dr. Mehmet Oz , a celebrity heart surgeon turned talk show host and lifestyle guru whom he's tapped to run the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; and top pharmaceutical executives in which they discussed drug prices. Trump heaped praise on the companies — the same ones that Kennedy has routinely argued profit off of Americans unfairly — but said the high cost of health care was a focus of their dinner. “What came out of that meeting is that we’re paying far too much,” Trump said. Trump also hit pharmaceutical benefits managers, calling them “horrible middlemen” who drive up the cost of drugs. Pharmaceutical companies have been aggressively lobbying Congress to restrict the role of pharmaceutical benefit managers, which help health insurance companies’ biggest clients decide how and what prescription drugs will be covered in their insurance plans. “I don’t know who these middlemen are, but they are rich as hell," Trump said. The press conference was Trump’s most extensive public appearance since his victory six weeks ago — a rare absence from the public stage for the former reality star. But it also underscored how even while president-elect, Trump has seized the spotlight from Biden, who still has a month left on his term in office. Biden has not held a press conference in months and has had a limited public schedule. While Trump was addressing some of the top-of-mind issues of the day -- including sightings of drones flying over the Northeast -- Biden himself has been silent, leaving it to aides to try to calm the public. Trump seemed skeptical that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would appoint his daughter-in-law to be a Florida senator, taking the seat held by Marco Rubio, who has been nominated for secretary of state. Asked whether he expected DeSantis to name Lara Trump to replace Rubio, Trump said, “I probably don’t, but I don’t know.” Trump recently spoke with DeSantis at a memorial for Florida law enforcement officers. Trump's allies have been pushing DeSantis to nominate Lara Trump, who is married to Trump's son, Eric, and served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee this year. “Ron’s doing a good job with his choice," Trump said, without elaborating. He lavished praise on Lara Trump, including for her work at the RNC, where part of her duties involved focusing on “election integrity,” a priority of Trump's after he falsely claimed fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Trump indicated he would look at intervening in the potential ban of TikTok in the U.S. The popular social media platform must cut ties with its China-based parent company or be banned by mid-January under a federal law. He didn't offer specifics, but Trump credited the platform with helping him win the election. His campaign saw it as a bridge to reach younger, less politically engaged voters, particularly when clips circulated showing him with celebrities at UFC fights. “We’ll take a look at TikTok,” he said. “You know, I have a warm spot in my heart for TikTok." Trump tried to ban TikTok during his first term but changed his mind and pledged to “save” TikTok. Once he takes office, his Justice Department would be tasked with enforcing the new federal law against TikTok. Trump on Monday was meeting with TikTok CEO Shou Chew at his Mar-a-Lago club, according to two people familiar with the president-elect’s plans who were not authorized to speak publicly about them and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity. Trump noted the differences between the first time he was to take office eight years ago and today, saying executives now want to meet with him. He said they were “hostile” back then. “Everybody was fighting me,” he said about his first term. “This term, everybody wants to be my friend. I don’t know. My personality changed or something.” While he left office in 2021 ostracized and angry, Trump has had a stunning turnaround leading to his election win. Last week, he was honored by being named Time magazine’s Person of the Year and ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. His meeting with the TikTok executive was part of a string of meetings he's had with Silicon Valley billionaires and other technology leaders since becoming president-elect. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai have all flown to Trump's club to meet with him. He revealed Monday that he had also met with Google co-founder Sergey Brin. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will meet with him this week, Trump said. “We have a lot of great executives coming in — the top executives, the top bankers, they’re all calling," he said. "It’s like a complete opposite from the first one.” With multiple wars going on, Trump has sought to insert himself back on the world stage. He said he is working to get Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza to be released and had a “very good talk” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But on Monday he seemed to buffer expectations about his promise to solve the Russia-Ukraine war even before taking office, describing the conflict as a “tough one” and a “nasty one." “We are trying to get that war stopped, that horrible, horrible war” he said. “It’s a tough one. It’s a nasty one. It’s nasty. People are being killed at levels that nobody’s ever seen.” Russia's invasion of Ukraine is Europe’s biggest armed conflict since World War II and has cost tens of thousands of lives on both sides. Trump declined to say whether he's spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin since winning the election. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris this month when he visited for the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral. Trump's incoming press secretary has said that Trump invited Chinese leader Xi Jinping and other world leaders to his Jan. 20 inauguration, but Trump said Monday that Zelenskyy was not among them. “If he'd like to come, I'd like to have him," Trump said. Trump said Xi has not yet said whether he is coming. He described the Chinese leader as “a friend of mine” and “an amazing guy” but acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected their relationship. “It was a bridge too far for me,” he said. Associated Press writers Zeke Miller and Amanda Seitz in Washington and Colleen Long in Palm Beach, Florida, contributed to this report.Hyderabad: The Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy has clarified that the proposed Pharma City will not be established in Kodangal. Instead, the government is focusing on creating an ‘Industrial Corridor’ aimed at providing job opportunities to the youth and women in the Kodangal assembly constituency. Addressing concerns regarding the project, CM Revanth Reddy questioned, “Why would I trouble the people of my own constituency?” He reaffirmed that the initiative aims to benefit the local community. The chief minister further assured that only pollution-free industries would be set up within the industrial corridor, addressing environmental concerns. He also stated that the government would consider enhancing compensation for land acquisition in the area. In 2023, the Telangana High Court annulled the notification for the acquisition of farmers’ lands intended for the proposed Pharma City. Despite this ruling, the farmers reported that authorities were not updating their land details in the revenue records, which hindered their access to agricultural inputs, credit support, and full ownership rights. The petitioners expressed their concerns about being deprived of these essential resources. The Hyderabad Pharma City was envisioned as a significant pharmaceutical industrial park, covering 19,333 acres across the Kandukur, Yacharam, and Kadthal mandals of Rangareddy district. The project was expected to attract substantial investment, estimated at USD 9.7 billion, and create approximately 560,000 jobs. However, it has faced considerable opposition from local farmers and environmental activists, who are concerned about the potential impact on the surrounding ecosystem, which has already been affected by existing pharmaceutical factories in Hyderabad.Cowboys G Zack Martin, CB Trevon Diggs out vs. Commanders

DHAKA (AFP): Squeezing rubber-covered robotic prosthetic hands, Bangladesh protesters wounded during the deadly revolution to topple autocratic leader Sheikh Hasina test out replacement arms for their lost limbs. “I’ll be able to do some everyday tasks with this artificial hand,” said student Hafeez Mohammad Hossain, 19, whose right hand was ripped off in gunfire on August 5. It was the same day protesters stormed Hasina’s palace as she fled to India by helicopter. In the middle of the chaos, Hossain said a police officer levelled a shotgun at him and fired. He described searing pain as gun pellets lacerated his back and leg. Surgeons picked out the gunshot, but were unable to save his hand. “I can’t write anymore,” Hossain said. “I’m struggling to learn how to write with my left hand.” On Thursday he was fitted with a prosthetic limb, alongside four other students who also lost their hands during the months-long protests in which at least 700 people were killed during a police crackdown. Robolife Technologies, a Bangladeshi organization manufacturing artificial hands, said the prosthetic limbs use sensors connected to the nerves to move. The company says it allows users to grasp objects, to type and use a phone. “If you ask me whether they work like organic hands, I’d say no,” said Antu Karim, who is working on the government-backed project to fit the limbs. “But these hands allow the boys to hold a glass if thirsty, or a spoon to eat,” he added. “At least, they won’t be looked down upon for not having hands.” Hasina’s 15-year tenure saw widespread human rights abuses, including the mass detention and extrajudicial killings of her political opponents. Limbless protesters held a rally earlier this month demanding the interim government who took over after Hasina’s fall support those injured in the protests. Many say they have not received the aid they need. The four other former protesters who had arms fitted on Thursday included Mohammad Mamun Mia, 32, a father of two, whose hand was hacked off by a gang he said was loyal to Hasina’s Awami League party. The new arm is far from perfect, but it has made a huge difference. “I’ll be able to do some regular tasks with this hand,” he said, saying that while he cannot work driving a tractor in the fields again, he hopes now to open a small business. Arif Hossain Sagar, 19, had his hand amputated after it failed to heal from an injury he sustained during the protests, and doctors worried about gangrene. “I can’t do any regular activities now,” Sagar said. “I rely on others for eating or bathing.” The new hand will return a degree of normality to his life, he said. Nayeem Hasan, wounded when attackers pounced on him as he went to donate blood to help those injured after a fire, broke into tears. The new arm would help him fulfil his simple dream. “I have a one-year-old daughter who wants me to hold her,” Hasan said.

Construction is on TransLink’s first-ever brand-new bus depot dedicated to the future large fleet of battery-electric buses for Metro Vancouver’s public transit network. As previously reported by Daily Hive Urbanized early this month, for Marpole Transit Centre, including foundation piling, is now underway on a vacant 20-acre industrial site on the Fraser River waterfront in South Vancouver, situated immediately east of SkyTrain Canada Line’s North Arm Bridge. When complete and open in 2028, this bus depot will have the capacity to store, charge, and maintain about 340 battery-electric buses, plus other facilities dedicated to operations and the large workforce of bus drivers. But it will cost substantially more than originally budgeted. Upon inquiry, TransLink confirmed to Daily Hive Urbanized the new Marpole Transit Centre will carry an estimated cost of $848 million. This is nearly three times the preliminary estimate of $308 million in 2021, which subsequently increased to $344 million in 2022, and $498 million in 2023. In addition to the recent steep market inflation in the prices for construction materials, labour, and equipment, the escalation in the construction costs was also due to the need to make “massive changes to the seismic and structural design of the project.” These changes are required under the provincial government’s 2023 update to the BC Seismic Code. Such changes included adding over 3,500 steel foundational piles under the two main buildings and drilling over 17,000 concrete columns into the ground. This work can now be actively seen at the development site. In addition to the challenging soil conditions on the riverbank land area, TransLink notes the required flood protection wall along the foreshore is also more complex than originally expected with the preliminary geotechnical information. According to the , the entire site will be elevated on a platform about 4.6 metres above sea level to serve a “superdyke” function — higher than the existing ground elevation between 2.5 metres and 3.3 metres. The complex will elevated about two metres higher than Kent Avenue along the northern perimeter, and a flood protection wall will be built along the south perimeter fronting the river. Other unexpected site conditions now require TransLink to remove contaminated soil, debris, and buried foundations to improve the ground conditions before building the facility’s foundation. Additionally, there will be numerous buckling-restrained braces to meet the provincial government’s new seismic standards. Generally, TransLink’s existing bus depot facilities have relatively simple configurations, with maintenance/operations buildings adjacent to large surface vehicle parking areas for the overnight storage of buses. However, the significant parking areas for up to 300 buses at Marpole Transit Centre are stacked in the operations building, which is essentially a multi-level parkade structure that spans nearly half of the property’s land area. With a growing shortage of available industrial land for new development in Metro Vancouver, there are growing calls from the development industry to encourage more vertical industrial projects. This bus depot represents the region’s largest example to date of a vertical multi-level industrial development. The last bus depot TransLink constructed from scratch is the Hamilton Transit Centre in Richmond, which reached completion in 2016 at a cost of $136 million. Its industrial location is also on the edge of the Fraser River, and its size is comparable to Marpole Transit Centre, with a land area of 18 acres and a capacity for approximately 300 buses, including 150 compressed natural gas-powered buses. Marpole Transit Centre represents one of the two initial major bus depot facilities that will handle TransLink’s pivot to battery-electric buses. A to expand its capacity and introduce the capability for handling about 100 battery-electric buses. The construction of Marpole Transit Centre allows TransLink to take a significant step toward adopting a battery-electric fleet by replacing aging fossil fuel-powered buses later this decade, while also expanding the overall size of the bus fleet to support new and improved service levels for growing ridership. The complex is jointly designed by WSP Global, Architecture 49, and TWD Technologies. A portion of this industrial waterfront site for Marpole Transit Centre, which has the addresses of 8902-9001 Heather Street and 502 West Kent Avenue, was previously contemplated by the Vancouver Park Board for a . This facility complements TransLink’s nearby Vancouver Transit Centre bus depot, which primarily serves trolley electric buses. Located on the edge of the Fraser River, the Vancouver Transit Centre lies just west of the Marpole Transit Centre, next to the northern end of the Arthur Laing Bridge. Upon completion, Marpole Transit Centre will be a highly visible structure for those entering or leaving Vancouver on the Canada Line. In total, over the coming years, TransLink expects it will need to built to a higher cost standard of handling battery-electric buses. Additionally, other TransLink fleet depot projects have seen a steep cost escalation. The cost of the , serving SkyTrain’s Expo and Millennium lines, has risen from the early design estimate of $658 million in 2021 to $1.299 billion as of December 2024, with construction now well underway. The ongoing construction project of building a has tripled since 2021, now reaching $327 million.

Thousands of protesters marched through Barcelona on Saturday demanding lower rents in Spain's second city. Barcelona, which has already taken action to stop the spread of holiday rental apartments, is the latest Spanish city to see protests for cheaper housing. Backed by left-wing parties and unions, the demonstrators gathered in central Barcelona behind a giant banner declaring "Lower the rents". "Today a new political cycle starts concerning housing," Carme Arcarazo, spokesperson for the Catalan Tenants Union, the main organiser, told reporters. "Investors must not be allowed to come to our cities and play with the apartments like a game of Monopoly," she added. The union would target "profiteers" who are taking "half of our salaries", Arcarazo said. The demonstrators demanded a 50 percent cut in rents, leases with an unlimited term and a ban on "speculative" sales of buildings. They threatened to start a rent strike. An estimated 22,000 people took part in a similar demonstration in Madrid on October 13. Campaigns have been launched in other cities. According to the Idealista specialised website, rental prices per square metre have risen 82 percent across Spain over the past decade. The average salary has gone up by 17 percent in that time, according to the national statistics institute. Facing pressure over a housing crisis, the government in 2023 passed legislation calling for more social housing, greater restrictions on rents in high demand areas and penalties for owners who do not occupy properties. But rents have continued to rise while the government has battled city and regional authorities to get some parts of the law applied. vid-vab/tw/jmThousands demand lower rents at Barcelona demo
