Kirby, a retired Navy admiral, said at the White House Thursday that there was no evidence that a series of drone sightings posed a national security threat, and even said many of the aircraft appeared to be manned. The latest encounter came at a Naval Weapons Station Earle in New Jersey, where there 'at least' two confirmed drone sightings. 'While no direct threats to the installation have been identified, we can confirm at least two instances of an unidentified drone entering the airspace above Naval Weapons Station Earle,' according to a statement issued by the base, which posts a long pier to supply U.S. warships with munitions. 'The base remains prepared to respond to any potential risks, leveraging robust security measures and advanced detection capabilities. We encourage members of the community to report any suspicious activity near the base to local law enforcement,' it said. Van Drew accused the Pentagon of being 'incredibly stupid and incredibly weak' when it comes to addressing the drones. 'I had credible individuals who have high security ratings, and they came to me and again, these are dependable, credible individuals that have security clearance that felt they wanted to clear the air,' Van Drew told Fox News on Thursday. 'They were in essence whistleblowers and said look, they believe there's a real possibility it could be Iran ,' the lawmaker insisted. 'There could be a ship out. Not right on the coast of New Jersey , not right there, but these drones as sighted by the coast guard are coming in and out of the ocean,' he continued. Residents have noted the unexplained cluster of 'drones' and a possible fixed wing aircraft for several weeks which have sparked concerns as they have been seen flying over sensitive locations, such as military instillations. CoreLogic head of research Eliza Owen said the rate of profit-making sales has been declining across regional cities in Victoria. Bendigo's experienced a 2.1 per cent decline in home values over the past 12 months, with Ballarat, Warrnambool, Wangaratta, and Golden Plains also seeing varying levels of decline. CoreLogic's data shows the median loss was $32,500 in regional Victoria. The median holding period of the loss-making properties was about 31 months. Ms Owen said market conditions were much stronger three years ago, with low interest rates, and the market hit a high in early 2022. "People who bought then not only would have had to pay a higher price than they might buy into now, but they were also getting a mortgage on much lower interest rates," Ms Owen said. "Fast forward three years, property values are down, but interest rates are much higher. So that might promote people more to sell if they cannot service their mortgage. "Sell after a relatively short period and have a greater chance of incurring a loss." Ms Owen said when it came to the number of people making a profit or loss in the housing market, it often came down to the broader trend in prices. Here is a snapshot of the housing markets in five regional Victorian areas. Bendigo's home values were down 2.1 per cent in 12 months to $551,256, according to CoreLogic. The recent median price of houses was $574,304, and the median value for the units was $382,246. In the September quarter, 98.7 per cent of the properties sold made a profit for their investors, with a median profit of $210,000. The current median price of houses is $560,049, and the median price of the units is $355,329. From July to September, more than seven per cent of the properties were sold at a loss in Ballarat. The loss-making investors held the properties for a median of 30 months. The median loss was $40,000, the highest across all the regional cities in Victoria. Data showed 92.2 per cent of sales were profitable in Ballarat, with a median holding period of more than nine years and a median profit of $183,819. The median price of houses and units in Warrnambool declined 1.2 per cent to $566,252 in 12 months, according to CoreLogic. The city's recent median house price was down 0.9 per cent to $602,720. Data showed 98 out of 100 sales during the previous quarter were profit-making. The median holding period was about 10 years, with more than half of the profit-making sales generating $245,000 or more in profit. Wodonga's home values of houses and units were up 1.8 per cent to $567,580 in 12 months, according to CoreLogic. The median price of houses was up 1.6 per cent to $598,196, and the median price of units was up 3.5 per cent to $352,179. The September quarter's data showed 96 per cent of properties sold in Wodonga made a profit. The median holding period was seven years, and the median profit was $207,000. The median price of houses and units in Wangaratta declined 3.7 per cent to $500,185 in 12 months, according to CoreLogic. The city's median price of houses was down 3.8 per cent to $532,468, and the median price of units declined 2.4 per cent to $348,102. RIYADH: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to activate the joint task force at the earliest for public security, the Interior Ministry on Sunday. The development came during Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's visit to Safe City Centre of Saudi Arabia and Public Security Police Headquarters in Riyadh today where he was welcomed by Head Public Security Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Bassami. Naqvi took a round of various departments of state-of-the-art Public Security Headquarters. While reviewing the system equipped with modern technology to prevent crimes, he appreciated the system of controlling crimes and traffic accidents through the use of modern technology. During his meeting with Al-Bassami, the minister said that he was happy to see the excellent public security system of Saudi Arabia. U.S. stocks rose to records Friday after data suggested the job market remains solid enough to keep the economy going, but not so strong that it raises immediate worries about inflation. The S&P 500 climbed 0.2%, just enough top the all-time high set on Wednesday, as it closed a third straight winning week in what looks to be one of its best years since the 2000 dot-com bust. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 123.19 points, or 0.3%, while the Nasdaq composite rose 0.8% to set its own record. The quiet trading came after the latest jobs report came in mixed enough to strengthen traders’ expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates again at its next meeting in two weeks. The report showed U.S. employers hired more workers than expected last month, but it also said the unemployment rate unexpectedly ticked up to 4.2% from 4.1%. “This print doesn’t kill the holiday spirit and the Fed remains on track to deliver a cut in December,” according to Lindsay Rosner, head of multi-sector investing within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The Fed has been easing its main interest rate from a two-decade high since September to offer more help for the slowing job market, after bringing inflation nearly all the way down to its 2% target. Lower interest rates can ease the brakes off the economy, but they can also offer more fuel for inflation. Expectations for a series of cuts from the Fed have been a major reason the S&P 500 has set an all-time high 57 times so far this year. And the Fed is part of a global surge: 62 central banks have lowered rates in the past three months, the most since 2020, according to Michael Hartnett and other strategists at Bank of America. Still, the jobs report may have included some notes of caution for Fed officials underneath the surface. Scott Wren, senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, pointed to average wages for workers last month, which were a touch stronger than economists expected. While that’s good news for workers who would always like to make more, it could keep upward pressure on inflation. “This report tells the Fed that they still need to be careful as sticky housing/shelter/wage data shows that it won’t be easy to engineer meaningfully lower inflation from here in the nearer term,” Wren said. So, while traders are betting on an 85% probability the Fed will ease its main rate in two weeks, they’re much less certain about how many more cuts it will deliver next year, according to data from CME Group. For now, the hope is that the job market can help U.S. shoppers continue to spend and keep the U.S. economy out of a recession that had earlier seemed inevitable after the Fed began hiking interest rates swiftly to crush inflation. Retailers overall have been offering mixed signals on how resilient U.S. shoppers can remain amid the slowing job market and still-high prices. After absorbing their worst defeat of the year , the San Jose Sharks will be looking for a response Saturday against the Florida Panthers. The Sharks reverted to some bad habits during their 8-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, as they strayed from their identity and were generally outworked from start to finish. The seven-goal loss was the Sharks’ most lopsided of the season, unceremoniously ending a three-game winning streak. While the Sharks have been playing better hockey l ately, the loss in Tampa offered a blunt reminder that they can still get embarrassed when their details and competitive level are not where they need to be, particularly against playoff-caliber teams. “Break out pucks, defend hard, box out, you name it,” Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky told reporters when asked about the defense’s shortcomings. “What a defenseman’s responsibilities are, we could have done a lot better.” The forward group wasn’t let off the hook, either. “Didn’t pay a price,” Warsofsky said. “You watch (the Lightning), they’re blocking shots. And that’s the price to pay to win games in this league and that’s what we’ve got to learn.” The Sharks have done a fairly good job this season of responding after blowout defeats. After an 8-3 road loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 18, they returned home and played a much more competitive game two days later against the Colorado Avalanche in a 4-1 loss.
