Ford and General Motors will both donate $1 million and vehicles to President-elect Donald Trump’s January inauguration, Reuters reported Monday. CEO Jim Farley of Ford told reporters earlier this month he is excited about working with the incoming Trump administration to ensure the company is “rewarded for our commitment to America and Michigan,” according to the Detroit Free Press. “Ford’s employment profile and importance in the U.S. economy and manufacturing, you can imagine the administration will be very interested in Ford’s point of view,” Farley reportedly said. Bloomberg noted in a report last week that Trump’s plan for his first 100 days in office includes ending rebates for electric vehicle buyers. Farley said Ford expects changes in tax benefits for those consumers but noted the company is “very well-positioned” for any policy changes, according to the Detroit Free Press. Ford dealers have also been prioritizing electric vehicle sales in some markets, the newspaper quoted Farley as saying. “We did take some pricing action. We’re working with our dealers to make sure they sell the whole lineup, not just our hybrids. So they’re putting more emphasis on EVs in certain parts of the market,” he reportedly explained. Earlier this month, General Motors CEO Mary Barra said Trump listens intently to the automotive industry, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I think we’re very goal-aligned,” the newspaper quoted her as saying. “We want a strong economy. We want a strong manufacturing base in this country. We agree automotive jobs are important. I think there’s a lot that we could work on.” “But there’s going to be changes,” Barra reportedly continued. “But we’ve worked with many administrations for decades.” Have questions, concerns or tips? To avoid crashing with a motorcycle, three policemen sustained minor injuries when a vehicle of former chief minister Vasundhara Raje 's carcade overturned in Rajasthan's Pali district on Sunday, police said. The accident occurred while Raje was on her way to meet former minister Otaram Dewasi to express her condolence over his mother's death. "Seven policemen were travelling in the car. Some of them have sustained minor injuries," Pali SP Chuna Ram Jat said. Raje left for Mundara village of Pali district by road. A police car which was escorting her between Bali and Kot Baliyan overturned while trying to save a bike rider. A BJP leader said that his car was behind the car which overturned thrice. He said he immediately got down and helped in sending the injured policemen to a hospital. "While returning from Mundara to Jodhpur, the policemen Ruparam Ji, Bhagchand Ji, Suraj Ji, Naveen Ji and Jitendra Ji were injured when the police jeep following behind overturned. The injured policemen were immediately rushed to the Government Hospital by ambulance, where they were given first aid and discharged. I pray for their speedy recovery," said Raje in a post on X. On matchday five of the Champions League , Dinamo Zagreb will welcome inconsistent Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund to Stadion Maksimir on Wednesday. The Croatian champions are 16th in the Champions League table with seven points and triumphed 4-1 against Slovan Bratislava on November 5, whereas BVB are seventh with nine points and beat Sturm Graz 1-0 on November 5. © Imago Dinamo Zagreb fell behind against Slovan Bratislava after just five minutes, but equalised by the 10th minute and led 2-1 after just half an hour. Interestingly, despite winning 4-1 Wednesday's hosts struggled statistically in the first 45 minutes considering their figure of 0.5 xG was roughly three times less than their opponents' tally of 1.47 xG, but a resounding second-half showing helped steer them to victory. Head coach Nenad Bjelica 's side are currently third in their domestic league with 25 points from 14 matches and are four points from leaders Hajduk Split. Bjelica's team have only lost one of their last 11 games in all competitions, winning six and drawing four, and have also achieved victory in four of their six most recent outings. However, Dinamo Zagreb have failed to win their past three home fixtures and have kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches at Stadion Maksimir. © Imago Meanwhile, Dortmund boss Nuri Sahin was able to ease some of the pressure on his job with a 4-0 win against Freiburg last time out on November 23 in the Bundesliga. Sahin's side started their 2024-25 campaign with six victories in their first eight games, but BVB lost five of their subsequent nine. Dortmund are fifth in the German top flight with 19 points and have already lost four times in 11 games, though they are only one point from fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who occupy the division's final Champions League qualification spot. It is important to highlight that BVB have won three of their four most recent games, with their 3-1 defeat against Mainz 05 on November 9 being mitigated by the fact Emre Can was sent off in the 27th minute when the scoreline was 0-0. Against Sturm Graz, Wednesday's visitors accumulated 66% possession and produced nearly 2 xG but only claimed all three points thanks to Donyell Malen 's 85th-minute winner. Dortmund's form on the road is troubling given they have lost their last six matches away from home, conceding 18 times while scoring on just six occasions. © Imago Defensive midfielder Josip Misic was forced off last time out on November 23 against Rijeka and is unlikely to play on Wednesday, while fellow midfielder Petar Sucic is scheduled to return in late December. Lukas Kacavenda could start in the centre of the pitch alongside Maxime Bernauer and Martin Baturina . Forwards Bruno Petkovic and Juan Cordoba will not be available for selection, and Bjelica may field a front three consisting of Dario Spikic , Sandro Kulenovic and Marko Pjaca . As for the visitors, attacker Karim Adeyemi is nearing a return from a hamstring injury but is unlikely to feature, though striker Serhou Guirassy may make an appearance in some capacity. Should Guirassy fail to make the starting XI, Julian Brandt , Donyell Malen, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Maximilian Beier could be chosen to lead Dortmund's offensive line. Midfielder Kjell Watjen and centre-back Niklas Sule are also out as a result of injury, so expect Waldemar Anton and Nico Schlotterbeck to appear in the heart of defence, shielded by a double pivot of Felix Nmecha and Emre Can. Dinamo Zagreb possible starting lineup: Zagorac; Ristovski, Theophile-Catherine, Torrente, Ogiwara; Kacavenda, Bernauer, Baturina; Spikic, Kulenovic, Pjaca Borussia Dortmund possible starting lineup: Kobel; Ryerson, Anton, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Nmecha, Can; Malen, Brandt, Bynoe-Gittens; Beier Dortmund are in better form of late and will go into their clash confident after their 4-0 win last time out. However, it is difficult to ignore the visitors' poor record on the road and it would be surprising if they managed to achieve victory against Dinamo Zagreb. Protests at Kalaburagi, Gadag against Amit Shah’s remarksAP News Summary at 2:19 p.m. ESTLONDON (AP) — After a sprawling exposed the communications of an unknown number of Americans, U.S. cybersecurity officials are advising people to use encryption in their communications. To safeguard against the risks highlighted by the campaign, which originated in China, federal cybersecurity authorities released an extensive list of security recommendations for U.S. telecom companies — such as Verizon and AT&T — that were targeted. The advice includes one tip we can all put into practice with our phones: “Ensure that traffic is end-to-end encrypted to the maximum extent possible.” End-to-end encryption, also known as E2EE, means that messages are scrambled so that only the sender and recipient can see them. If anyone else intercepts the message, all they will see is a garble that can’t be unscrambled without the key. Law enforcement officials had until now resisted this type of encryption because it means the technology companies themselves won’t be able to look at the messages, nor respond to law enforcement requests to turn the data over. Here’s a look at various ways ordinary consumers can use end-to-end encryption: Officials said the hackers targeted the metadata of a large number of customers, including information on the dates, times and recipients of calls and texts. They also managed to see the content from texts from a much smaller number of victims. If you’re an iPhone user, information in text messages that you send to someone else who also has an iPhone will be encrypted end-to-end. Just look for the blue text bubbles, which indicate that they are encrypted iMessages. The same goes for Android users sending texts through Google Messages. There will be a lock next to the timestamp on each message to indicate the encryption is on. But there’s a weakness. When iPhone and Android users text each other, the messages are encrypted only using Rich Communication Services, an industry standard for instant messaging that replaces the older SMS and MMS standards. Apple has that RCS messages “aren’t end-to-end encrypted, which means they’re not protected from a third party reading them while they’re sent between devices.” Samsung, which sells Android smartphones, has also hinted at the issue in a footnote at the bottom of a last month on RCS, saying, “Encryption only available for Android to Android communication.” To avoid getting caught out when trading texts, experts recommend using encrypted messaging apps. Privacy advocates are big fans of Signal, which applies end-to-end encryption on all messages and voice calls. The independent nonprofit group behind the app promises never to sell, rent, or lease customer data and has made its so that it can be audited by anyone to examine it “for security and correctness.” Signal’s encryption protocol is so reputable that it has been integrated into rival , so users will enjoy the same level of security protection as Signal, which has a much smaller user base. End-to-end encryption is also the default mode for , which like WhatsApp is owned by Meta Platforms. Telegram is an app that can be used for one-on-one conversations, group chats and broadcast “channels” but contrary to popular perception, it doesn’t turn on end-to-end encryption by default. Users have to switch on the option. And it doesn’t work with group chats. Cybersecurity experts have warned people against using Telegram for private communications and pointed out that only its opt-in ‘secret chat’ feature is encrypted from end-to-end. The app also has a reputation for being a haven for scammers and criminal activity, highlighted by founder and CEO Pavel Durov’s . Instead of using your phone to make calls through a wireless cellular network, you can make voice calls with Signal and WhatsApp. Both apps encrypt calls with the same technology that they use to encrypt messages. There are other options. If you have an iPhone you can use for calls, while Android owners can use the service, which are both end-to-end encrypted. The only catch with all these options is that, as with using the chat services to send messages, the person on the other end will also have to have the app installed. WhatsApp and Signal users can customize their privacy preferences in the settings, including hiding IP address during calls to prevent your general location from being guessed.
3 Bold Stock Market Predictions for 2025
Seahawks safety Rayshawn Jenkins will return to the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals. Coach Mike Macdonald announced that the team will activate Jenkins back to the 53-player roster Saturday. Jenkins returned to practice this week, opening his 21-day window, and he was a full participant in all three practices. He missed four games with a hand injury that required surgery after Week 6. Jenkins has 38 tackles and a fumble recovery, which he returned 102 yards for a touchdown in a loss to the Giants. The Seahawks have ruled out tight end Brady Russell (foot), according to Macdonald. Wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. (back) and tight end Noah Fant (groin) are questionable.Born in one of the world's most ancient cities with a rich cosmopolitan history, Nevart and Silva are celebrating their first Christmas with their family in their new home after fleeing Aleppo, in Syria. or signup to continue reading The twin Armenian-Syrian sisters, now in multicultural western Sydney, have put up a Christmas tree and decorations to celebrate their first feast with Nevart's son since they were separated 13 years ago. They landed in Australia as refugees in December 2023 but after a few months of staying with family and looking for a suitable home in a tight rental market, they are finally able to gather under one roof for Christmas. It is a far cry from living under constant bombardment in Syria during a decade-long civil war that claimed more than 500,000 lives and displaced more than 10 million people including the sisters. "It's happiness for me to be reunited with my only son after 13 years," Nevart told AAP. "Every time we talked to him it was after a bomb had gone off here and there. "We left our home in Aleppo not knowing if we'd ever go back there again. It was terrifying ... we didn't know if a missile would fall on us." The regime of long-time autocrat Bashar al-Assad fell in December in a lightning offensive by Turkish-backed Islamist rebels. The sisters fled Aleppo and sought refuge in neighbouring Lebanon in 2017 - part of the exodus of 1.5 million Syrians who moved there following the outbreak of the war. Like most of their compatriots, they could not secure permanent residency and were rendered illegals. They made ends meet by teaching and caring for the elderly for three years until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, shuttering their meagre sources of income. Further tragedy hit in August 2020 when the port of Beirut exploded, killing more than 200 people including an Australian toddler. "It was so scary ... at first we thought someone had made a (suicide) bombing ... we didn't think it was that far away in the port," Nevart said. The explosion triggered memories of the missile strikes and barrel bombs the sisters had fled in Aleppo. "It was all fear. We didn't know what the future would hold - there was darkness." The darkness was also literal, with electricity only available for a couple of hours during the day. Water in the household was considered a luxury and clothes were washed by hand. "We feel safe in Australia ... there's no bombings, water is on all the time, electricity is available always," Nevart said. Rima Ramdani, the sisters' casework manager with not-for-profit refugee resettlement agency , said acclimatising to life in Australia could be challenging, with each new arrival's unique journey depending on their circumstances. "We advocate on their (refugees') behalf - from doctors to employers to driving schools," she said. "We are here to orient them so they can be independent." It was not the first time the twin sisters had escaped war. They previously fled Kuwait, where they had a comfortable life with their parents after Iraq invaded the oil-rich Gulf country in 1990. Silva has been busy whipping up a Christmas storm of delectable Armenian and Middle Eastern dishes from kibbeh traboulsieh (fried meat and bulgur) to muhammara (roasted red pepper and walnut dip) and ouzi (a lamb and rice dish). "We were two women only by ourselves which was hard ... we only had God. We prayed to him and he answered our prayers," Silva said of the six years she lived through the brutal conflict in Aleppo. "We are totally different but inseparable. We feel each other always," the sisters said in unison, laughing. DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team. Riverside Discovery Center is preparing for its ninth annual Wild Lights at the zoo. Wild Lights. The event, which includes lighting up the zoo grounds, began Dec. 12 and continues Dec. 14, 19, 20 and 21. While the majority of the animals at Riverside have experienced Wild Lights before, one has not. Rajah the tiger joined the animals at Riverside Discovery Center in November. Rajah is part Bengal tiger and part Amur tiger — or a Siberia-mix tiger. Rajah earned his name by public vote, though handler Mandi Shemenski said he’s still getting used to it. Rajah’s acquisition by the Scottsbluff zoo was made possible by a $2,500 donation by Teresa Rice and family and donation from Platte Valley Bank for $17,500 for improvements to the cat enclosure. While some would think a dangerous, wild animal would fight its handlers during a move, Rajah is anything but difficult, Shemenski said. “You expect a traumatic situation for that to be like, a lot of stress on him,” she said. “(But he was so calm the whole time. So we unloaded him right there (in his enclosure) and opened it up and he just walked out all chill.” Even though Rajah’s calm demeanor may make him seem more approachable, Shemenski and fellow discovery center staff have protocols in place for safety. “We use a bamboo back scratcher on him to give him the tactile enrichment that he seems to want,” Shemenski said. “The way he rubs up against the mesh, it seems like he really wants us to pet him. And we're like, ‘We can't do that,’ but we can use a back scratcher.” At the zoo, both Rajah and his neighbor, Smokey the Bear, have learned what certain drivers on golf carts mean. “Golf carts equal food,” Shemanski said, with a laugh. “Some of the animals are smart enough to know who we are, and that when we are coming in a golf cart, it means that we're carrying food.” But Rajah and Smokey don’t get large chunks of meat every day. Similar to what Rajah’s diet would be like in the wild, he wouldn’t eat a whole carcass in a single day, so he doesn’t get a whole carcass at the zoo every day, but has fasting days. “So they get a bone instead of a diet at the end of the day for their teeth health,” Shemanski said. “Fasting them one day is just to kind of let their gut readjust.” For now, Rajah is Shemanski’s favorite animal at the center. “I'd say the newness of him is pretty fresh,” she said, “and he gets me the most excited because of how cool he is and how much he wants to interact with us.” During Wild Lights at the Zoo, which is sponsored by Riverstone Bank, animals like Rajah will receive gifts to open, a fun event for visitors to watch. “(The animals) usually get some presents wrapped up in wrapping paper,” Riverside event coordinator Valencia Allen said. “(The chimps) get stuffed animals (and) different things that they can have. It's pretty fun and interesting to watch.” Tickets for Wild Lights are $4 for members and $8 for non-members, ages 2 and older. Concessions will be open and Santa and The Grinch will make random appearances. “I believe Santa said he'll be here most of the nights, and then The Grinch will be here ... the following Friday and Saturday,” Allen said. Dinner with Santa, a turkey dinner in coordination with Wild Lights, will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 5 - 7 p.m. Tickets for that event are pre-sale only so contact the Riverside Discovery Center to see if tickets are still available. Riverside Discovery Center is also starting its membership stocking event. Stockings are available for $125 and are filled with a yearly family membership, Christmas candy, two hot cocoa packs, a candy cane and a small plush animal of your choice. Membership stockings must be pre-ordered by Dec. 18. The zoo's winter hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with gates for entry closing at 3:30 p.m. They will be closed on Christmas Day with Christmas Eve hours from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., gate closing at 11.
